Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

The Federal Communications Commission will vote to eliminate a rule that requires Internet service providers to list all of their so-called “passthrough” fees on an easily accessible broadband price label. The FCC vote could also make the price labels themselves a bit harder for consumers to find.

ISPs routinely advertise prices much lower than those actually charged to consumers on their monthly bills. One method of raising monthly bill prices above advertised rates is to tack on fees that, ISPs claim, are used to offset charges imposed by local governments.

In any decent civilization, someone as evil and corrupt and stupid as Brendan Carr would be taken to a remote destination and beaten into a chunky soup

Yet another day in Trump‘s world of “how can I make everyone’s life shittier? how can I HURT literally everyone on the planet for no good reason?”

Another day of republican philosophy in practice: cause pain just because

Desperate people are easier to control

[–] Smaile@lemmy.ca 9 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

even more reason to stop using American services.

Trump voters really voted to get scammed and a worst quality of life for everyone else lol. There is not one thing good this admin has done.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 4 hours ago

i wonder what isps are only in red states, in the blue areas you get more than the OG 3 competitors. they likely have verizon, TWC, AT&T and xfinity mostly.

[–] BillyClark@piefed.social 14 points 8 hours ago (2 children)

Let's see... They slowed down the war that they started in Iran. They released half of the Epstein files, just not the presumably 50% that directly implicate Trump. Trump fired Pam Bondi who he had appointed.

It's hard to think of anything good that they did that wasn't just toning down or backtracking of something bad that they had previously done.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

and hired TODD blanche, who is even more tied to EPSTEIN than bondi is. trump likely is keeping him close so he doesnt rat on trump down the line.

[–] Wataba@sh.itjust.works 9 points 6 hours ago

Its literally just an abuse-manipulation tactic at that point.

Going overboard, then retreating back only slightly to give the false impression of being reasonable, when theyve already got what they want.

Throw it on the pile of shit that the public will never acknowledge, yes I know.

[–] toiletobserver@lemmy.world 13 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

I don't want to disagree, but how about enabled the Charlie Kirk incident?

[–] areakode@riskeratspizza.com 42 points 11 hours ago (3 children)

Nah. Had nothing directly to do with Trump. I say it's a wash.

But seriously, Trump voters need to think what that man has done to improve their lives in any way. I seriously can't think of a single thing.

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 28 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

They may still not say it out loud, but their first thought will be "he hurt those other people in various ways, so worth it to me."

Actual value for them... nope, can't think of anything.

[–] fonix232@fedia.io 16 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Oh they do say it out loud...

https://www.ms.now/rachel-maddow-show/trump-voter-hes-not-hurting-the-people-he-needs-be-hurting-msna1181316

And if people think this is just some outlier cherry-picked by the media - nope. I've been told by an inlaw conservative that maybe I did well under Biden or under Obama, but should not have - implication being - maybe Trump 2.0 will actively harm me, because that's what I deserve. Because I have a degree, because I'm liberal, because I don't vote for asshole idiots like Donvict, etc...

And that's not even getting into the kinds of conversations I've had with conservatives both IRL and online - they definitely wish harm on those that merely disagree with them, never mind people of different religions or skin colors.

[–] SeductiveTortoise@piefed.social 16 points 10 hours ago (2 children)

They don't need to think at all, they get fed what they need to believe. Trump made America great and safe and wonderful. Everything bad happening is somehow Bidens fault. Or immigrants did it. Even if they get upset for some days, they keep crawling back to him. It's the worst toxic relationship ever.

[–] YoureHotCupCake@lemmy.world 5 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Case and point being them blaming the bad weather at the US 250 festival on democrats.

[–] MagicShel@lemmy.zip 3 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

They can't even keep straight between "science is dumb and doesn't know anything," and "libs built a fucking weather control machine!"

[–] YoureHotCupCake@lemmy.world 4 points 4 hours ago

Your enemy is both weak and strong at the same time bullshit, they fall for it every time.

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 8 points 10 hours ago

Or Iran, communists, Chyna, antifa... Never the United States, superriche, corporate entities...

[–] jtrek@startrek.website 3 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Many people are sad, cruel, little monsters that are happy those people are being hurt.

It's really hard to change people like that so they're better. You gotta get them to see you as in-group, and slowly re-socialize them. Lot of work. Might not even succeed. But it's also apparently a whole bunch of crimes to round up the maga-hats and lock them in an underground vault somewhere.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

I like the explanation that a lot of these people are people that peaked in high school. They are angry that they stayed in the same town, not bettering themselves and never really going anywhere.

And they want others to hurt. People they perceive as liberals because they did get a degree, did expand their minds, did better themselves, did travel, did spend time in bigger and better cities, and so on.

I didn't get to go to college since my mother's AIDS bankrupted our family, but I didn't and don't want to see other people hurt.

Am I a little bitter I couldn't afford mountains of debt to get a degree while watching many of my friends go off to college? Sure.

Am I sad I had to work at a younger age than my peers so we could afford to juggle medications and bills? Sure.

Has this trajectory seriously screwed me for a lifetime of poverty? Yes, definitely.

Do I want to see other people hurt? No.

[–] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 7 points 10 hours ago (2 children)

That's not true. It showed us everyone's true colors.

[–] adarza@lemmy.ca 12 points 9 hours ago

we already knew that during the campaign before episode 1.

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 3 points 8 hours ago

I don't think it showed us anything that we didn't know already

[–] OpenStars@piefed.social 1 points 6 hours ago

Fortunately I avoided the mistake of voting blue tho, bc Lemmy tankies told me the truth that bOtH sIdEs SaMe.

ISPs routinely advertise prices much lower than those actually charged to consumers on their monthly bills.

I wonder if there is any other countries where you will not know how much you'll have to pay for internet until after you've signed a contract.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 points 3 hours ago

or that they add new service charge, because they added something your subscription without consent. like how comcast constantly changes the tier of your cable services often.

[–] Zephorah@discuss.online 34 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Anything to fuck over working class.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

And the white ones w/o degrees will vote even harder for Republicans to "own the libs". Meanwhile, just sitting on their own balls, basically.

Know your place, trash!

Wonder if my provider will appreciate me not paying any fees that weren't included in the listed price

[–] ToiletFlushShowerScream@piefed.world 1 points 8 hours ago (2 children)

How does Fox News spin this one then?

[–] Asafum@lemmy.world 5 points 7 hours ago

They don't really need to spin, they either talk about Democrats in a negative way, glaze Trump like he's their God, or they just don't cover it at all.

This one probably falls into the "just don't talk about it" category. If Reich wing media doesn't cover a story MAGA never finds out about it

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

They'll blame it on Biden or Obama if they need to.

Conservatives fucking blamed 9/11 on Obama before.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 3 hours ago

and adding Hillary into mix too.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world -2 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Biden Bad, so therefore anything Donvict does == doubleplusgood.

Don't talk to me about any facts, I don't want to hear 'em!

[–] Wataba@sh.itjust.works 2 points 6 hours ago

I cant tell which side this is parodying anymore.
