Be nice. Assume others have good intent (within reason).

Most 196 posts are memes, shitposts, cute images, or even just recent things that happened, etc. There is no real theme, but try to avoid posts that are very inflammatory, offensive, very low quality, or very "off topic".

Bigotry is not allowed, this includes (but is not limited to): Homophobia, Transphobia, Racism, Sexism, Abelism, Classism, or discrimination based on things like Ethnicity, Nationality, Language, or Religion.

Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

[–] SnarkoPolo@lemmy.world 4 points 2 hours ago

That would certainly make tonkatsu difficult to obtain.

This type of blunder is called paraphasia, a speech disorder in which a person unintentionally substitutes, distorts, or rearranges words and sounds.

[–] protist@retrofed.com 29 points 7 hours ago

If Biden said this there would be a 4 day news cycle about it

Apparently he's playing some weird mod in which you only have two buttons: "Denounce" and "Declare Surprise War".

[–] Theoriginalthon@lemmy.world 8 points 9 hours ago

Hasn't figured out the requirements to declare a holy war yet

Any Japanese users here, did you know you were an Islamic republic?

[–] DupaCycki@lemmy.world 11 points 7 hours ago

Of course not. They're brainwashed by their government. The great USA should free them from their oppression. /s

[–] D_C@sh.itjust.works 12 points 9 hours ago

Since 1945. They've just kept it quiet to play the long game for yet another surprise!!

[–] deadbeef79000@lemmy.nz 50 points 13 hours ago (4 children)

Can't tell if this is satire or real.

This is typical Trump behavior and always has been

[–] Midnitte@beehaw.org 19 points 8 hours ago

I am afraid to look beyond the content advisory.

[–] Saapas@piefed.zip 1 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

It's a fun little action game

[–] strawberry_enjoyer42@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago) (1 children)

So then what's with the content advisory?

[–] Saapas@piefed.zip 1 points 44 minutes ago

It's probably the game over screen that has a robot unicorn head separated from body iirc. Check the gameplay on YouTube, it's fun

[–] pticrix@lemmy.ca 3 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

This is clearly a reference to this song by Erasure, which was used in a flash game by Adult Swim, which let you control a robot unicorn.

Wait, you didn't know? Who doesn't know that!?

Your bias is: the Curse of Knowledge

Relevant XKCD Title text: "How could anyone consider themselves a well-rounded adult without a basic understanding of silicate geochemistry? Silicates are everywhere! It's hard to throw a rock without throwing one!"

Ignoring the Islamic Republic of Japan part, is it 11 missiles or 111?

[–] general_kitten@sopuli.xyz 7 points 6 hours ago

watched the original clip its 111

[–] uriel238@lemmy.blahaj.zone 15 points 12 hours ago (3 children)

This actually reminds me of the plot of Command & Conquer: Red Alert III,

Colonel Anatoly Cherdenko (Tim Curry) about to be overrun by the enemy, uses a time machine to travel to 1927 Brussels to kill Einstein. When he comes back to the present, he's the Premier of the USSR which is winning the war against the Allies... right when the Empire of the Rising Sun (Japan) declares war and attacks.

Japan isn't necessarily Muslim, but they are a technological powerhouse of their own accord.

[–] remotedev@lemmy.ca 14 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

We didn't know how lucky we were to have Tim Curry in our cutscenes
