Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Literally the evil party. How did we end up here

[–] mushroommunk@lemmy.today 81 points 2 days ago (3 children)

We founded a country using solely slave owning sexually repressed cultists

[–] Hylactor@sopuli.xyz 56 points 1 day ago

...on stolen land. Using the labor of the indentured and the enslaved.

[–] amateurcrastinator@lemmy.world 26 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Also most of you didn't vote or for some unexplainable reason voted for the orange buffoon... twice!

[–] Hylactor@sopuli.xyz 40 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Not to absolve these people, but half of our government has been at full on war with education since at least Reagen. They've been fighting tooth and nail for an army of uneducated meat-bots for the past 40 years, and now their investments are paying off.

[–] jj4211@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago

And don't forget about Fox news and conservative talk radio.

[–] mushroommunk@lemmy.today 13 points 1 day ago

And their war has been backed and funded by almost every big company. The amount of propaganda and lobbying pumped out against the people ever since Reagan has been insane

[–] watson387@sopuli.xyz 10 points 1 day ago

Definitely. That's why they're constantly cutting education funding.

The people we elected to stop them didn't.

[–] Asafum@lemmy.world 29 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The Reich wing found out that fighting a perpetual culture war where you make EVERYTHING out to be an attack on your sense of decency and morality and then have propaganda outlets do absolutely nothing else but harp on that culture war 24/7 and never report on your shit votes or comments is INSANELY effective at getting people to vote for you no matter how fucked up you are.

[–] A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Republicans basically working from the book of Goebbels.

[–] IronBird@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

kinda the other way around tbh, nazi germany built their propaganda appartus around how US oligarchs setup jim crow/generally kept their workers down

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

they got idea of segregation from the US.

[–] IronBird@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

yes, and the specific social contral mechanisms built to keep it alive

[–] MasterBlaster@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Yeah, pretty much literally.

[–] Carl@anarchist.nexus 30 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This is legitimately some cartoon villain level BS. It’s the kind of thing I’d expect from a Captain Planet supervillain, like “hah I built a weather machine and am forcing everyone to work in the sweltering heat, just to create suffering” type of toony.

[–] obvs@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

The thing fiction authors never get right about villains is that evil people are evil in every aspect, not just evil in some.

[–] MehBlah@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

A lack of empathy gets you into a position of power so you can be effectively evil.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] MehBlah@lemmy.world 0 points 1 day ago

That fuckin tank engine. The root of all evil.

[–] kgbbot@lemmy.dbzer0.com 72 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Of course the assholes who never have to work without air-conditioning are fine fucking everyone else

[–] EmpathicVagrant@lemmy.world 42 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Or live without food, Shelter, Medicine, Expendable income, Passive income, A salary, Insurance, Transportation..

Any consideration covered for our leaders is removed from the public, a few per generation.

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 77 points 2 days ago (1 children)

GOP hates people. Nothing new except in finding ways to hurt everyone more.

[–] WhoIzDisIz@lemmy.today 17 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I hate people, too. But please don't label me "GOP," or I'll just die!

[–] oyzmo@piefed.social 16 points 1 day ago

Seriously, GOP is just more evil than any evil fantasy created. Could it be that they really are Satan and his underlings come to earth 🤔

[–] FistingEnthusiast@lemmy.world 41 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They don't care if people die

They don't see the people who will be affected by this as human

They're truly disgusting

Now, now, that's not true. They care very much if people die. That's why they keep trying to kill more.

[–] cavitationfetishist2@quokk.au 34 points 2 days ago (5 children)

Hell yeah! Fuck the outdoor working chuds! Let's watch these fuckers fucking die!

[–] Catoblepas@lemmy.blahaj.zone 15 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Can I get some of that heat that only targets chuds?

not just outdoors. I worked in manufacturing at a place where production was immediately next to annealing furnaces on one side, and shipping on the other, with big truck bay doors constantly open to the outside, no climate control except for box fans and semi-portable AC units, which were only appreciably effective in a small area a few feet directly in front of them. we were also required to wear cut-resistant gloves and sleeves up to the elbow, non-breathable full-length hi-vis uniforms, goggles, and hard hats at all times. there were a small handful of minor heat-related medical incidents every summer. I was honestly surprised when I found out there are no laws that address ambient temperature thresholds for work; OSHA only requires access to clean drinking water

[–] SouthEndSunset@piefed.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Those requirements are there to protect the company, not us.

I’m from the U.K. FWIW but I’ve complained about heat in the summer and been told “there’s no max heat law” and the cold in the winter…and guess what??

You need to lock your bosses pets or children in a large oven and cook then to at least the point of serious neurological damage. Only way they'll learn without being too brain damaged to even boss you.

The murder party doing its thing again.

[–] Eternal192@anarchist.nexus 17 points 2 days ago

Every single one of these shit stains is way too old to be making decisions about our working conditions.

[–] el_twitto@lemmy.zip 18 points 2 days ago

Fuck the GOP

[–] DaddleDew@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago

Take away the air conditioning in their offices. See how fast they change their minds.

[–] brem@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago

...it's bad enough these people are ugly on the inside, but another side effect of them being terrible is my feed is constantly just pictures of creepy saggy old white dudes.

[–] Melobol@lemmy.ml 10 points 2 days ago

Ooh! I didn't had this one on my bingo card!

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It’s the hierarchy. If you didn’t want to die of heat stroke, you should've been an Elon Musk.

Just keep blaming the people they treat like expendable cogs.

[–] deadbeef79000@lemmy.nz 4 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Have you even tried being in the 1%?

[–] MasterBlaster@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

They wouldn't let me join because if I did they'd become the 2% That's less sexy.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 1 day ago

actually in the .5-.01% which are the billionaire class.

That's the point. Our global climate catastrophe can't get in the way of profit margins.

[–] svullo56@feddit.nu 4 points 2 days ago

América, amazing country. I won't let you tell me otherwise. No other country in the world let's you have this level of freedom!
