Rather than "we're short staffed tonight," maybe try "Hey, want to pick up a shift tonight?" The passive aggressive tone kills me lol

Nothing wrong with asking someone if they want to work, but you've gotta be ok if they say no when they're not scheduled

The reason the manager didn’t do that is because this is a screenshot of a fake conversation.

Oh no, what happened to Buster?

[–] xthexder@l.sw0.com 6 points 2 hours ago

He got blown up a few times, among other things. I don't think the original survived Mythbusters

[–] veni_vedi_veni@lemmy.world 3 points 3 hours ago

He became a druggie unfortunately

[–] Calfpupa@lemmy.ml 7 points 3 hours ago

I have had similar conversations with managers in the past, this may be staged but it's all too real.

[–] pyre@lemmy.world 3 points 2 hours ago

i thought that was obvious. I mean the contact name is "manager"... isn't the point that people wish they would respond like this?

[–] shweddy@lemmy.world 36 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

Youre a manager. manage to get your ass in there

✏️ downvoted by a manager apparently

You know what's going to be asked next, so here's the response:

"Sorry homie, I've been drinking"

[–] lost_faith@lemmy.ca 12 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Actually used this once, and it wasn't a lie or stretching the truth

[–] rockSlayer@lemmy.blahaj.zone 17 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Good call, never lie to your boss. Crack open a cold one as soon as the first text comes in

[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 hours ago

After. Just been drinking after.

[–] Hirom@beehaw.org 37 points 6 hours ago

"If you need extra hire, a friend is looking for a job, I could get you in touch"

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world 36 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

In my restaurant there's a four drink minimum before you can start cooking or serving customers.

[–] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 6 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

I got the least serious bollocking of my life from the manager of the bar I worked in when the exec team of the bar I worked in bought me 12 jagerbombs in a single shift

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world 3 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

How much coke was involved?

[–] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

12 jagerbombs and no coke is a war crime.

Most people find their own maximum.

[–] spazzman6156@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

Some find it and just leave it faaaar behind them

[–] grue@lemmy.world 10 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Remember this scene in Ratatouille where Colette talks about the sordid pasts of the kitchen staff? Now consider that that was bowdlerized for a kids' movie, compared to reality.

[–] stopdropandprole@lemmy.world 6 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

TIL "bowdlerize" https://www.englishgrammar.org/bowdlerize-means-sanitize-book/

what a prude, that Thomas Bowdler. Shakespeare was too spicy for him!

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago

Shakespeare's work has a lot of dirty jokes, they're just made with terminology modern English speakers don't know or don't realize was dirty back then.

[–] diffaldo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 6 hours ago

"My grandma died.."

[–] henfredemars@infosec.pub 44 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

At work, I don’t appreciate implications. It leads to mistakes and misunderstandings. Bad for business.

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 4 points 3 hours ago

implications

[–] stretch2m@infosec.pub 8 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Or you could just not reply.

[–] ApathyTree@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

That’s what I’ve always done, wait until the shift is nearly over and be like “just saw this, hope it all worked out!”

[–] JustAnotherKay@lemmy.world 5 points 2 hours ago

Yesss, “sorry I just woke up! Did you manage to find someone?”

[–] MutantTailThing@lemmy.world 24 points 7 hours ago (2 children)
[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 18 points 7 hours ago

Yep, the text is great, but that's the punchline.

[–] diffaldo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 6 hours ago

That is the sign of incoming disaster.

[–] GalacticSushi@piefed.blahaj.zone 15 points 7 hours ago (2 children)

It really bugs me that they spell good luck as a single word.

[–] nightofmichelinstars@sopuli.xyz 8 points 7 hours ago

It's because they've been drinking
