Which side are they on?

Remember folks: if you're concerned about election integrity at your polling place, you too can sign up to be an election judge and/or poll watcher! Do it now!

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

But if there are people attempting to intimidate voters, can we get them cleared out? Being able to make this complaint is at least as important

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Nice that they have jobs, I suppose.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 33 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Any plans on having these monitors armed? Also:

In order to reach 1,000 monitors for the upcoming election, a DOJ spokesperson told CBS News that the department will seek federal employees to volunteer for the effort. A department official added that the recruitment will target DOJ employees, including people in U.S. Attorney's Offices throughout the country.

What qualifications will they have?

[–] Manjushri@piefed.social 7 points 2 days ago

A department official added that the recruitment will target DOJ employees,

Read: ICE agents.

Here begins the list of qualifications.

Mar-a-lago face seems to be another one

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (2 children)

What is the male version?

Wearing way-too-big brand of shoe that Donnie hands out?

[–] BuckFutter@timeyak.com 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

How dare you single out Marco like that lol

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Lil' Marco is not the only one, lol:

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/trump-fashion-florsheim-shoes-aides-b2935206.html

“It’s hysterical because everybody’s afraid not to wear them,” one insider told the WSJ. “All the boys have them,” another said.

Reported recipients include Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, Communications Director Steven Cheung, and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy.

Vance told the WSJ that Trump then produced a Florsheim catalogue and asked everyone their size. When another man said he wore size seven shoes, Vance said, Trump “kind of leans back in his chair and says, ‘You know, you can tell a lot about a man by his shoe size.’”

LOL, no you can't.

Anyway, long long ago I worked at a company where the owner-CEO had all this bullshit hero-worship going on around him and he wore these rather singular-looking shoes - they looked like shower shoes, except they weren't. All of a sudden, a bunch of his little mini-me's started wearing the exact same thing.

I just felt embarrassed for them - adult men, doing the same thing as their hero. The whole place was downright bizarre and cult-like.

This was during the dot-com bubble, so things were very tight, otherwise no way in hell would I have stuck around. But also: I was not going to be some monkey-see-monkey-do dumbass like these other guys. Turns out I got laid off anyway, but due that, I found a much better job.

[–] BuckFutter@timeyak.com 2 points 1 day ago

Lol I remember reading the Guardians coverage on this and just laughing and shaking my head…so on brand for these clowns.

Ha funny story and thanks for sharing, but yah its a cult. People are operating with cult like traits and its just baffling. Do they really think they will come out better off once this shit show takes a different direction lol

[–] Malyca@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago

Have you seen Trump's puffy lip fillers? He looks like he's pouting 24/7.

[–] bedwyr@piefed.ca 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Wow Guillfoyle or whatever her name is is looking pretty mar a lagoed in her face. Laura Loomer is the worst of them though. But Kristi Noem also is pretty gross now, she looked better before she butchered her face.

They have to take off their faces at night and soak them in that shit they claim democrats harvest from kids to keep them young I hear.

[–] BuckFutter@timeyak.com 4 points 2 days ago

Yah it’s wild isn’t it? It’s like they all went to the same doctor. And agreed, what the hell happened to Noem, when she was a senator she looked amazing but now, dear lord, yikes.

[–] Blibly@lemmy.world 22 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Time to monitor the monitors. We need to keep an eye on every single one of these poison pills.

[–] NaibofTabr@infosec.pub 26 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

No problem, volunteer to be a poll worker for your county.

If you're there in an official capacity they can't complain about you loitering or ask you to leave.

[–] Blackfeathr@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

For most states you are also paid for your time as a poll worker. Attend the training, follow directions, and you're good to go.

Depending on the city the paycheck varies and some pay more than others. It's a nice way to earn some extra money and doesn't require much more work than checking drivers licenses, using a laptop, setting up booths, and doing some light paperwork.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (5 children)

How many Lemmyites will actually do this? Idk. Not holding my breath.

[–] Malyca@lemmy.zip 15 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I plan on it, I'm in a small town and we need volunteers. I'm a little afraid of violence but it is what it is.

[–] cattywampas@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Don't worry about it too much. You're gonna be working with some no-nonsense lady named Cathy who's been doing this for 30 years and she won't take any guff from anyone.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago (2 children)

In my experience, poll working is about as dangerous as watching paint dry. Also, about as exciting.

Even when something does pop off - the Brooks Brother's Riot because the only genuinely dramatic incident I could think of in the last 30 years - it's highly localized and ultimately uneventful (from a violence perspective).

[–] Malyca@lemmy.zip 11 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I hope it goes that way for me, thanks

[–] stylusmobilus@aussie.zone 3 points 2 days ago

God I wish I could have your back as an Aussie onlooker for an hour or two

Much respect

[–] bedwyr@piefed.ca 1 points 2 days ago

There was a lot that went on in 2020 as far as attempted and threatened violence against poll workers. Thousands of death threats for starters. Angry crowds outside detroit trying to bully them into stopping the vote count, and so forth. Plus their campaign against the georgia poll workers.

Im doing it.

[–] Mandarbmax@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

I'm getting my poll watcher certificate!

[–] Blackfeathr@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

I've been doing it since 2020

[–] tquid@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago

Did it for the primary, will be there in November, standing next to the tabulator with a smile

[–] bedwyr@piefed.ca 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

If you follow their monitors around they will have you arrested and bring you up on serious federal charges of interfering with a federal official. It doesn't matter how demonstrably false the accusations are, federal judges are cunts.

[–] zbyte64@awful.systems 2 points 1 day ago

Be sure to have a dash cam otherwise they will charge you with trying to run over an officer

[–] dan1101@lemmy.world 18 points 2 days ago

If you want to monitor the MAGA monitors, the ACLU is having an online training session for this at 8PM EST 5PM PST today: https://www.mobilize.us/aclu/event/996634/

[–] N0t_5ure@lemmy.world 15 points 2 days ago

These will be polling places where the election is likely to be hotly contested. Expect violence and other voter suppression tactics.

[–] dummyboymc23@lemmy.zip 8 points 2 days ago

Great, perfect 😢 now what about those Epstein files?

[–] Fishnoodle@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

That's probably not even enough to cover two counties
