Hell yeah, I love a happy ending.

Rules:
- The mods are fallible; if you've been banned or had a post/comment removed, please appeal.
- Off-topic posts will be removed. If you don't know what "Leopards ate my Face" is, try reading this post.
- If the reason your post meets Rule 1 isn't in the source, you must add a source in the post body (not the comments) to explain this. If the reason is in the source but is tedious to find (e.g. in a lengthy video), you must add an explanation for where it is.
- Posts should use high-quality sources (for a rough idea, check out this list), and posts should retain the title (if one exists) from works like news articles, videos, etc. You may (but need not) edit your post if the source changes the title. (If you're only using an excerpt from an article that's otherwise not about LAMF, you can use the quote in the title.) Other types of posts should have a title which accurately, relatively neutrally describes their contents.
- For accessibility reasons, an image of text must either have alt text or a transcription in the post body.
- Reposts within 1 year or the Top 100 of all time are subject to removal. Within moderator discretion, this doesn't just include reposts of the exact same media but also includes e.g. a secondary source telling basically the exact same story as another that was already posted.
- This is not exclusively a US politics community. You're encouraged to post stories about anyone from any place in the world at any point in history as long as you meet the other rules.
- All Lemmy.World Terms of Service apply.

When he was 18, his mother reported to police that he had driven her car without permission...
Moore arrested an on-duty jail captain in May 2018 during a dispute over a prisoner.
During one of their assignments together, he said, Moore shattered a car window to reach allegedly undocumented immigrants inside. “It was like, whoa, why did this guy break this window out?” the former officer said...
A Ford truck traveling around 40 mph had struck the driver’s side of Moore’s blue Toyota Camry at around 5:15 a.m. ... The report noted Moore had entered the roadway “improperly” and drove “carelessly.” ...
“Taking my credentials and gun makes me feel like a leper,” Moore wrote. “There’s no greater insult to a cop.”
“People shouldn’t have to die for this.”
That's right, Good, Pretti, and hundreds of others should not have had to die for this.
Wow, I'm sorry for the people who lost him but if that isn't evidence that he should never have been given a gun I don't know what is. We're all just lucky he turned it on himself in a moment of dispair instead of someone else.
Awww the shit bag group backstabbing people here legally backstabbed him? What a fucking surprise.
Every ICE agent should eat their pistol. Let's get a trend going.
They have served their theatrical purpose for the fan base. They can be disposed of now.
Republicans will need a secret police even more. I think they're just weeding out the amateurs, and hiring men who can be trained a little more, to use their brutality more efficiently.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Too shitty or not shitty enough of a person for ICE, I wonder...?
Imagine wanting to work for ICE so bad that you off yourself when they don't even want you...
Are we supposed to feel bad for this guy? I'm confused...
If even ICE wants to fire you, and they take absolute dregs of society, then he should reevaluate his life choices.
My first thought was that he had taken a principled stance on something and they fired him for not being a big enough piece of shit, and then I read further and boy was I wrong...
The likely scenario is that he had been fired from previous law enforcement jobs, probably for violent behavior, and this was his last chance. He eventually got violent enough in this job that he became a liability. Perhaps he was already involved in a bad situation. So given his past, it was best to end further liability.
He understood that he was at the absolute end of his law enforcement career.
And he would rather die than get an education.
Sounds like a two-time loser. In his first job he arrested a jail captain(!) and was told to quit. He got another cop job in another town, but then:
The Lower Frederick Township Board of Supervisors determined that he should be let go after he filed erroneous police reports, endorsed a vendor’s gear without permission, wore an unauthorized firearm and failed to appear at an alleged intoxicated driver’s court hearing, according to official township records filed in court.
(His family disputes the allegations, naturally.)
Didn't the signing bonus hit after some months to a year on the job? Of course Trump and team would try to wlech on it as much as possible and fire people before bonuses got paid out.
5 years in ICE, and ICE wasnt planning on keeping them for 5 years anyways. they let it elapse under the next presidency.
As I recall, it was years. Enough time that the orange moron and his handlers will fire them for "performance" reasons and they will (rightly) never see that bonus.
I thought it was 4 years but I thought it was also pro-rated.
It was five years IIRC. I remember thinking at the time it was plenty of time for a change of government.
After doing contracting for years I don't know why anyone would trust "signing bonuses" that aren't paid out immediately. If you don't have it paid immediately, there is no bonus. It's the same as "contract-to-hire" after 6 months. You aren't getting converted at 6 months. It's a 6 month contract then you're out. They're just dangling a carrot barely out of reach

The hiring pool is people who were too dumb to become cops

this hasn't been my experience at all but maybe i'm just a model employee? (this comment typed during work hours)
2016 i went from working for a help desk service provider > a private industry help desk who went 6 months contract to hire. mediocre wages and shit commute but was a huge leg up and got specialized training within a year.
2024 i went 6 month contract to hire for a remote contractor in that specialized dev field and got them to provide the job offer in writing 3 months early as a basis for me to secure a home loan.
Yeah I’ve always just factored my “bonus” into my total compensation, as it is paid out in an asinine way like that. I plan to move on after the last installment to ensure I reach the same level of compensation, which is on them for paying a somewhat lower base salary than others imo. It is annoying that it framed as some kind of bonus when it really just gives a slight edge to my overall salary. They have paid out so far though.
I don't even consider it when thinking about compensation. It's a nice to have, but unless it's recurring, like a union signing bonus, then the longer I'm there the worse it is, and I really prefer some stability

Yeah. File in with the other "lies recruiters tell that no one believes"; like the "we're a family" and "work hard, play hard".
Thoughts and prayers.
The thugs are disposable, the real point of ICE is to funnel money to companies lie GEO group.
That and just being the means to an end without caring how we get there. ICE are being used as Gestapo agents to realign the population in the way that these fascists want it either through mass deportations, abductions or generally terrorizing the people they identify as undesirable. They don't care about ICE itself, but more the end result that comes of it.
Womp womp 🎺
Geez I hope there is at least some percentage of a way those kids end up okay.
Growing up watching your own dad be an evil sack of shit who made his own life terrible enough to end it by suicide...
I could see that at least sending the message "don't be an evil sack of shit". Or it could traumatize them into following daddy's footsteps... seems like these kinds of things tend to end in extreme good or extreme bad.
Officer down
Technically he was no longer an officer of anything. Fired 3 times.
