Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Mostly it took petty bribery and some religious fanaticism.

But whatever.

[–] Atelopus-zeteki@fedia.io 62 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Let's not forget ignoring long standing legal precedent.

[–] a_non_monotonic_function@lemmy.world 51 points 1 week ago (2 children)

And several sitting justices lying to the American public during confirmation hearings.

[–] manxu@piefed.social 25 points 1 week ago

The courage to lie!!!

[–] chocrates@piefed.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I must be too jaded but I just expect them to lie since there are zero consequences.

There are certainly consequences for the rest of us.

"“The physical threats and the harassment represent something new in our society and something that’s quite disturbing, and I think it’s a danger,” Alito concluded."

These are just not new things at all in US society. Maybe he thinks it's new because he's never experienced it before. But it shows a profound ignorance of American history to say something like that.

"Americans are willing to resort to violence to maintain their freedom. That's a problem this country has never seen, and I'm proud of this administration for squashing that freedom and taking away their independence"

[–] pigup@lemmy.world 25 points 1 week ago

He's knows, he's just lying because he's pure evil.

[–] Jhex@lemmy.world 19 points 1 week ago

they witness and aid ICE in doing precisely that against the American people… they just coundn't care less about you, they only think about themselves

[–] disorderly@lemmy.world 71 points 1 week ago

It took courage to punch down on some of the most vulnerable members of our population, to destroy legal precedent that a majority of Americans strongly supported. And he did it all for no better reason than to indulge his own perverse views on women.

This one statement tells you everything you need to know about Samuel Alito.

[–] FirstCircle@lemmy.ml 54 points 1 week ago

What it took was for 6+ members of the court to be Catholics and to impose their religious creed on the rest of us.

[–] yakko@feddit.uk 47 points 1 week ago

Being a powerful man in a fascist system and oppressing women, soo brave

[–] lIlIlIlIlIlIl@lemmy.world 38 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Wish someone had the courage to overturn Alito

[–] abbadon420@sh.itjust.works 17 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Tgat's what guilotines are for

[–] BlameTheAntifa@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Uh oh, Tesseract list for you! 🤣

[–] unmagical@lemmy.ml 24 points 1 week ago

No it didn't.

[–] Taldan@lemmy.world 24 points 1 week ago (1 children)

At some level, they have to realize how pooly this decision will be viewed from a historical perspective

In that regard, it could be called bravery. The willingness to be a POS in the history books in exchange for money and power while you live

[–] Sylence@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 1 week ago

They really don't though. He genuinely thinks it was the right thing to do otherwise he wouldn't be saying it. Christianity is a disease that tells you that some truly heinous acts are good actually.

[–] crispbacon99@lemmy.zip 24 points 1 week ago

Just like how it takes courage to piss in a public swimming pool.

[–] kmartburrito@lemmy.world 22 points 1 week ago
[–] socsa@piefed.social 16 points 1 week ago

Alito can courageously suck a fart out of my ass

[–] mp3@lemmy.ca 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It mostly took cowardice from upsetting the executive branch of the government.

[–] StabbingSky@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)
[–] Gullible@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 week ago

It certainly took something, that's for sure. And took it from many people.

[–] Zephorah@discuss.online 9 points 1 week ago

Overt misogyny and a sense of entitlement is what it took.

[–] GuyFawkesV@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

Well now we need courage from the American people to overturn this fascist regime.

[–] Tempus_Fugit@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

He's traitor scum and should lose his head.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

It took a lot of things and courage was not any part of it.

I'd like to Appeal to Heaven to lightning bolt that motherkiller.

More like cowards for licking Rumps boots!!

[–] Bwaz@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Cowardly asshole

[–] UpAndAtThem@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Is around the 230th trimester too late?

[–] lemmyng@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Really? I thought it took snowballing underneath the bench.

[–] Snapz@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

If you cut these people in half the pure evil inside them must be a glowing neon green. The only explanation for this timeline is that we died years ago and this is hell.

[–] resipsaloquitur@lemmy.cafe 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)
[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world -3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I can see that perspective (from the headline), but only because by now they should have faced some.. consequences for that decision
