I'm not one to Stan a megacorp, but free my boy McRib. He did nothing wrong!

Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.
7. No duplicate posts.
If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body
For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.
Lmao, “no reasonable customer would expect the thing with the word “rib” in the name and shaped like ribs to be made of rib meat.”
Sure, it’s obviously not literally a rack of ribs but clearly they are trying to associate it with a fancier product by way of naming and shape it like that. Probably wouldn’t sell as well if it was called the McTripe. That’s pretty deceptive and misleading.
Is it that big of a deal? Not really, but also it’s just one example out of a mountain of examples of McDonald’s misleading or manipulating customers.
I mean this article is more sensationalist than anything else around it. This is a non-story.
The judge here hasn't implied that the McRib is or isn't deception. They've just ruled that the question is valid enough to warrant a court hearing.
McDonalds tried to dismiss the question as obviously absurd. The judge hasn't even really disagreed with that, except that it isn't immediately obviously absurd. "McRib" + kinda rib shaped = maybe a claim of it being ribs? Worth a bigger discussion, at least.
The facts presented in the hearing will play it out, and realistically McD's will probably win. The McRib is priced the same as their other fast food offerings, and far less than an actual set of ribs would be. I mean, it's kinda like arguing a "Big Mac" implies some special cut of beef, or a McNugget is a special type of chicken (it is, but not like that).
But McD's still have to go to court and argue their case. And who knows, maybe they'll blow it up massively in their face like that time they lost the European trademark for Big Mac.
Holy shit this thread has a ton of people hardcore simping for fucking McDonald's. Really fucking sad and embarrassing to see.
Yep, folks get defensive when you insult their culture.
Maybe they just disagree with you and that's natural and normal
I didn't even comment. Just reading them.
Sounds like the once-a-year Heartburn Sandwich is in trouble.
Any Judge who rules against a megacorp in their hometown jurisdiction will likely not remain a Judge in that location very long.
McPorkScraps
McAnuses
I'm loving it.
probably offal, with hooves and horns mixed in.

Jokes on them. I like eating ass.
This sounds a bit like people demanding that almond milk should be called "nut juice".
Also: Buffalo wings have no buffalo.
This sounds a bit like people demanding that almond milk should be called “nut juice”.
You mean the dairy industry lobby group? Because that's all that ever was.
See there's a difference here:
Buffalo don't have wings, one can reasonably expect wings to be made of a creature that has wings. Also did you know that they're named after Buffalo, the city where they were first made?
Pigs do have rib meat, so one can reasonably expect a rib sandwich to be made of primarily rib meat, not tripe and stomach. And unless the first place to make such sandwiches was a city called Rib, I'd say McRib is named after ribs or rib meat.
Yes, I think almost everyone knows that about wings? That's kinda the joke.
Anyway, yes, I understand people might be butthurt to learn that fast food has misleading labeling. Not sure what they expect of an industry that used pink slime, however. It could be they have a legitimate complaint, but if people are shocked to find out they have some strange components being put in their low-cost mystery meat....they might not want to look too closely at a lot of things consumed without too much thought.
Gelatin anyone? 🤣
The wild part about the almond milk thing is that is existed since the middle ages and was used as a dairy milk substitute even back then and it's been called almond milk for nearly the whole time. And yet now it's somehow a problem.
Yet peanut butter is acceptable.
Yeah. It's weird how some of these industries fly into a panic and seek to suppress and mount campaigns against something that is an alternative, often a better alternative in many ways.
They get all litigious over calling something "milk" if it's not dairy. They preemptively get states to outlaw what is likely one of the only serious ways to address global warming: cultured meat. Which is just bonkers - it'd be like Big Carbon getting states to simply outlaw wind and solar preemptively. Imagine, getting prison time for selling cultured meat.
These industries all have assets and the knowledge to get things onto shelves already; they could simply invest in the future as well.
This sounds a bit like people demanding that almond milk should be called "nut juice".
You mean America’s dairy farmers?
no reasonable consumer could expect the McRib to contain rib meat
Sounds right to me. People will litigate anything.
I wouldn't expect much of any kind of meat in any of the burgers tbh.
The thing is, McDonalds doesnt have reasonable customers
For those as curious as me: The suit is about the fact that the mcrib is rib shaped, yet contains no rib meat.
probably isnt meat.
Not to defend a giant corporation but if they do this, they better go after Banquet and all the other frozen food manufacturers that make those fake-ass ribs.
I'm beginning to wonder if the dino nuggets are actually made with dinosaurs
mcdonalds is far from the only one that uses a similar 'rib shape'. they all do, from food service to the grocery store freezer to gas station food... many even use 'rib' in the name, too.
mcdonalds has been 'faking it' for 45 years.. how about the others? as long? even longer?
the generic 'pork' ingredient listing could very well contain "rib meat".
there's no case here.
mcdonald's only crime is the price they charge for them. the ones literally next door at the gas station here, and which are available all the time not just 'for a limited time only', cost less than one-third the price and are at least a mcrib's equal if not better.
This one is kinda stupid since dino nuggets dont have any... Wait they sorta do have dinosaur meat.
Nevermind.
