SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A San Francisco supervisor was recalled Tuesday after he successfully pushed to turn a stretch of coastal highway used heavily by neighborhood motorists into a car-free park despite strong objections by his constituents.

Supervisor Joel Engardio became the fifth elected official to be ousted in a recall vote in four years. He conceded, saying in a statement that he accepts the outcome and still stands by his decision to help create a park called Sunset Dunes.

“Sunset Dunes is a success. It’s good for the environment, good for our local economy, and it’s bringing joy to people of all ages,” Engardio wrote. “Very soon, we will wonder why this was ever a controversy. We won’t be able to imagine San Francisco without a coastal park and all the benefits it offers.”

Senior Vice President Jack Williams told Reuters in an interview the two projects had now been paused because of the draft EU rules he said discriminated against using existing petrochemicals sites versus standalone facilities.

"Everything else is on track. We've had local support," he said. "We want to make these investments... The only thing standing between us and doing this project is EU policy."

You know how there are people that are born because their parents condom failed, or got drunk and had unprotected sex, or was born because of SA, or otherwise "weren't supposed to be born"?

Well, that's basically me, but its not the usual scenario. I was the second child born during the infamous One Child Policy, and I just keep thinking: what if the government had it their way and managed to terminate me while in gestation?

I know it was a long time ago and I should stop thinking about it. But I kinda, sort of, in a way, feel like those kids that are born "by accident", as in: not meant to exist, "outside of God's plan" (figuratively speaking, I'm not religious). I talked to my mother about it, but then she was just dismissive of these thoughts and doesn't understand what an existential crisis is.

And it especially hurts when sometimes my mother told me she regretted making that decision violate policy to have me because I wasn't being obiedient enough. Some filial piety bs.

What the fuck is my life? The world is collapsing, revolts and civil unrest everywhere, everything seems so surreal.

Las Vegas Mayor Shelley Berkley issued a heartfelt plea to Canadian visitors this week, acknowledging the city’s tourism-dependent economy is suffering from a dramatic decline in international visitors, particularly from Canada, which represents the city’s largest international market.

“As the mayor of Las Vegas, I’m telling everybody in Canada, please come. We love you, we need you, and we miss you,” Berkley said during a press conference this week, where she addressed the multiple challenges facing the entertainment capital’s tourism industry.

The mayor’s latest comments echo concerns she first raised in an August press conference, where she painted a stark picture of the tourism decline.

“International travel is way down. People are not coming to the United States,” Berkley said last month. “’

So how many of the 24 perpetrators of the 31 targeted political murders or attempted murders since 2018 were from the Left? Let’s count them..

In 2018, Cesar Altieri Sayoc was sentenced to 20 years prison for sending pipe bombs to nine prominent Democrats, including Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden and Maxine Waters. Sayoc was a registered Republican.

In 2020, 13 men attempted to punish Michigan’s Democrat Governor Gretchen Whitmer for enforcing Covid lockdown measures. All were far right extremists.

Roy Den Hollander murdered human rights lawyer Marc Angelucci in July 2020. He then tried to kill district judge Esther Salas, but succeeded instead in murdering her son and seriously wounding her husband. Hollander was a far right Trump supporter.

Quintez Brown attempted to kill Democratic Mayor of Louisville, Kentucky, Craig Greenberg, in February 2022. Brown was motivated by Black nationalism, pan-Africanism and revolutionary socialism.

In October 2022 David DePape seriously injured Paul Pelosi with a hammer while seeking to kill House of Representatives Speaker, Nancy Pelosi. DePape is a far right Trump supporter.

In December 2022, Solomon Peña paid gunmen to attack the houses of Democrat state lawmakers in New Mexico. Peña is a registered Republican and a former candidate for state office.

Craig Robertson was shot and killed by FBI agents in August 2023 while being arrested for threats against President Joe Biden and others. Robertson was an army veteran with extreme right wing views.

Donald Trump himself was targeted at a July 2024 rally in Pennsylvania. The shooter Thomas Crooks killed one attendee and injured three others, including Trump, whose ear was cut by a flying fragment. Crooks was a registered Republican.

Another attempt on Trump’s life, thwarted before completion, was made by Trump voter Ryan Routh in September 2024. The trial is continuing.

In April 2025, Cody Balmer attempted to kill Pennsylvania’s Democratic Governor Josh Shapiro in an arson attack which caused extensive property damage but no injuries. Balmer was a Trump supporter at the time.

The Democrat Speaker of the Minnesota House of Representatives Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark Hortman were killed by avid Trump supporter and registered Republican Vance Boelter in June 2025.

Boelter then attempted to murder Minnesota Senator John Hoffman and succeeded in seriously injuring the senator and his wife.

Lastly, right wing influencer Charlie Kirk was shot last Wednesday by Tyler Robinson, a white student from a gun-loving Republican Mormon family. Robinson has no party links, but has reportedly embraced the extremism of right wing racist Nick Fuentes.
