The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules (interactive)

Rule 1- All posts must be legitimate questions. All post titles must include a question.

All posts must be legitimate questions, and all post titles must include a question. Questions that are joke or trolling questions, memes, song lyrics as title, etc. are not allowed here. See Rule 6 for all exceptions.

Rule 2- Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material.

Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material. You will be warned first, banned second.

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Questions which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts and joke questions.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-question posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

On fridays, you are allowed to post meme and troll questions, on the condition that it's in text format only, and conforms with our other rules. These posts MUST include the [NSQ Friday] tag in their title.

If you post a serious question on friday and are looking only for legitimate answers, then please include the [Serious] tag on your post. Irrelevant replies will then be removed by moderators.

Rule 7- You can't intentionally annoy, mock, or harass other members.

If you intentionally annoy, mock, harass, or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.

I was looking at a grocery receipt, and there are three different tax rates depending on the items. The receipt doesn't even specify which items are taxed at which rate - just the total at each percentage.

I understand the goal of lower or higher taxes on groceries is to incentivize purchasing healthier options over more processed foods, but does it really affect purchasing decisions when the final price of the items is opaque to the consumer?

Okay Lemmy Champions… I want to spread the news and increase participation. What do you think about requiring an assignment in which college level comp students need to practice critical thinking skills in the subs of their choice at Lenny? What suggestions would you make relating to each an assignment? What negative unforeseen consequences am I not seeing? Thank you.Very

How do I fix this in yt-dlp? (s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com)

@nostupidquestions How do I fix this in yt-dlp?
yt-dlp -S youtube-link always downloads 360p videos but not on newly downloaded videos even when those same videos download best video quality via command yt-dlp link. I have ffmpeg. Does yt-dlp have a history I can clear or a config reset because I can't make sense of this regression happening otherwise since it's not due to updates.

I've been thinking about martial arts and how really it is useful these days since a lot of places will have criminals hiding firearms or in the U.S. some states have conceal carry.

Whilst it contains discipline and it is enjoyable to train in a club for, say Karate, I just think it might not be that useful in places where firearms are commonly held, all it really takes is for someone to take safety off, aim, pew pew and that's it.

I suppose I probably get this thinking from kung fu where it's seen more of an art form then actually being a serious bone breaking form of combat

Personally, I don't* but I was curious what others think.

^*^some sandwiches excluded like a Cubano or chicken parm; those do require cooking.

Seriously I've seen a guy see a bunch of pixels and go "Idk but that reminds me of Mexico" and he was right. There's no way the three letter companies wouldn't want that kind of skillset, right?

I had two Samsung flagship phones, one (S20FE) had an optical fingerprint reader and the other (S22) had an ultrasonic one. Both of them somewhat regularly failed to read my finger, were slower than a fingerprint reader on the power button and are more expensive/complex to build. They won't work with cheap 3rd party screen replacements and some screen protectors as well.

Meanwhile my $90 Android phone has a fingerprint reader on the power button. It never fails and I never have to perfectly place my finger on the sensor area to get it to work. It just seems like the perfect place to put a fingerprint sensor, so why do phone manufacturers keep using in-display fingerprint readers over the cheaper alternative?

My hands tend to shake, possibly from excessive masturbation. I recently watched a video where a guy was caught using an electronic male masturbator by a woman and the scene went to a happy ending. Anyways, it got me thinking — if I switch to using a device like that, could it help reduce my hands from shaking? What's your opinion on electronic toys? Do you think they're a good alternative?

I like working out and stretching in my leggings and I’m looking for a seamless tanga or a string that won’t show lines, won’t ride up and won’t accumulate sweat.

I don’t know if I should discard cotton tangas, because cotton absorbs moisture and I want to remain dry. If cotton is a no go, what fabrics should I use?

I don’t know if I should completely discard tangas and use a string, because compared to strings, tangas are quite wide on the sides. Won’t that be noticeable to the people I workout with when I stretch? And if it’s cotton, it’s going to be thicker than synthetic fabric or a seamless tanga.

I’ve never used a string, but seems to be ideal if I want to avoid lines. What I fear is that it’ll ride up. I don’t want that.

If I get a string and workout with it, will it leave deep marks in my skin? It’s a very thin piece of fabric.

Whatever I buy it’s gonna be low rise.

What works for you?

I've seen tables flipped, tv sets punched through, furniture thrown. And that's just in the home.

How does one get to a place mentally where burning and destroying things, over a sportsball game seem a reasonable thing to do?

Let me preface by saying, I have my SUV all set up with a bed and a kitchen and all the amenities I need to camp out in the woods. I like it that way I'm enjoying myself I see no reason to change.

A couple of times I have mentioned that when seeing a doctor and the next thing I know, here comes the social worker with a stack of papers. I tell them that I'm doing fine. That I like how I'm living. I didn't ask for any unsolicited help. And they don't seem to listen at all. At some point they just leave me with a bunch of paperwork in a huff. I don't understand why they get so upset just because I don't want their help.

I know it's a long shot, but are there any controllers that people could recommend? Both of my controllers went. One has a severe drift and the other one has unresponsive buttons (and I had gotten that one to deal with the drift of the first).

I was wondering if anyone knew of any sturdier brands?

Do you use one or more towels or washcloths?

Do you get worried that you might have dried your face with the same side you dried your butt with?

I've been searching around for a copy of the Resolute Letter that Trump left for Biden. The letters are typically released within a few days of entering office but this was never done because Biden wanted to talk to Trump first before doing so.

It's been almost four years. Surely it's been done by now and I can't seem to find any article with the letter or anything on the official White House website. I'm tempted to submit a FOIA request for it but wasn't sure where to start.

I was hoping to be able to get their latest start menu asap. Also how's their wayland support? Are they the only light de to support this?

I’m curious if there’s a name to the belief I have. I wouldn’t exactly call it atheist, though i generally lean that way, but I wouldn’t call it non-theist. The thing is, I just plain don’t care if God exists or not. They could, or they couldn’t, it really has no bearing on how I live my life. For that reason along I think I go in the atheist camp, but I always thought that was used to describe people who don’t think he exists.

Same rhetoric, policies, party, etc.

Would he even make it pass “grab em by the p****” in 2016?

Talking about those artists who are world famous and always have their treasured instrument(s) like Willie Nelson and his “Trigger” guitar.

Where do these artists typically store their instruments when not performing? If on tour, do they keep it on the bus or in their room?

I know everyone is different, but just wondering about some examples and/or the general places they’d keep them.
