Probably Nickelback. I'm no fan, but they seem to get the most hate of anyone just for being mediocre.
and like, they're not even that bad
Foo Fighters, for some reason, are fucking loved, and yet if you actually listen to their albums, they're just... meh
they got a few good songs and a lot of things I never want to hear again. and that's coming from someone whose favourite band was them for a very long time. not to mention they sound like shit live
It's really more the generation that came up thinking Nickleback was peak hard rock/grunge or even edgy that's to blame. Nickelback themselves are fine, there's nothing inherently wrong with wanting to have a wide audience for your pop rock band but some semblance of hardness in your sound.
I did a studio session with them about 20 years ago, when they were still pretty popular and before they were widely considered to be a joke, but I was not a fan. When the studio I was working for called me to do the session, my wife said, “Watch - they will end up being really nice guys and you will end up liking them more because of it.” In reality, they were arrogant dickheads, and I hated them all the more ever since.
Really? When i worked with them, they were all really nice guys. Surprised to hear that.
People at the height of their own popularity tend to be dicks. My mom organized some event with Neil degrasse Tyson during his hay day and said he was pretty insufferable.
He uhh always has been and still is as far as I'm aware. He talks down to everyone, even the camera. And him tearing apart movies was the most obnoxious thing. We know Neil, we know.
Well, knowing they're all assholes helps me not feel bad for all the hate they get.
i understand that nickelback is low hanging fruit, but limp bizkit is right there
I dont love LB but something about them hits just right for the gym. LB were popular but they werent sellouts. Even if you hated them.
Nickelback had the chops to really rock, but instead settled into a top 40 safe role and cashed the check.
I don’t think I’ve ever heard anybody hate on Limp Bizkit like I’ve heard them hate on Nickelback.
At least LB had some personality, and more than one chord progression
Yeah. When Limp Bizkit had their crap album, they just disappeared. It was also around the time that Nu Metal was dying, so the end was swift.
Nickelback died a lot more slowly.
Oh please, Limp Bizkit only did it for the nookie.
Come on...
I unironically love the music of Limp Bizkit, but Fred Durst seems like a shitty person in many ways.
That was really what gave everyone the ick. But I defy anybody to say they can't name at least 2 songs of theirs they liked. My mom liked chocolate starfish so much when I was listening to it that she went out and bought her own copy.
I can 100% say that.
Same, not that I hate them specifically but I have a skill to completely ignore artists I don't care about. Bunch of my friends were big fans but me I can't even tell them apart from Linkin park. Like, who sang "numb" ?
I guess you can never be wrong about anything if you just think someone who says something you don't want to hear is lying...?
Funny enough, Fred famously flushed a cutout of the lead singer of Nickelback on stage.
I really enjoy Limb Bizkit's music. It's "just" the vocals that suck imo
I liked their music. It's mindless, like the musical version of reality TV, but it was fun.
I read somewhere once that their agent would book them at any festival that would accept them. That lead to them getting booed a lot where they didn't match the rest of the lineup. People began to anticipate them and became a heel type character to avid concert goers.
Hating them is a meme I guess. I don't mind them.
There's nothing of theirs that I like and I think they're mediocre at best, but I agree. The amount of hate is totally unjustified.
I think the whole hating on Nickelback started with people who thought Nickelback was the best band in the world. They're like the most average band in the world. They're not bad, but they aren't particularly good either.
They had a good song recently "she keeps me up".
I agree. They have some solid songs, especially the ones with lyrics dealing with more serious subject matter. But they're just not amazing either.
Comedy Central destroyed Nickleback. There was a comedy special or show, I don't remember. Anyway, they promoted the show with a clip from a stand-up bit that was at Nickleback's expense. I you watched The Daily Show, or South Park, you would have seen that ad a hundred times. After that, liking Nickleback was an embarrassment.
What follows is my bad recollection of the joke.
People say that music can incite violence and I think that's true because every time I listen to Nickleback I want to hurt.... Nickleback.
I remember that, and this is accurate. Thing is, Brian Poesehn is famously a hard core heavy metal fan, and seems to judgementally hate anything but what he personally likes, so Nickelback got taken down by a guy with questionable taste.
Brian posehn. The geologist from Big bang theory.
I barely remember that.. Christ...that seems so long ago.
For me it's "Photograph." Such an aggressively sappy and mediocre song. Every time I hear it, it reminds me of an essay I would have written on the bus on the way to school in 6th grade.
I kind of like "Never Again", it's a bit heavy-handed but it's got crunchy guitar and the message is good, don't put up with abusive shit.
That's why I like it, it's funny to me. Even funnier after the memes like look at this graph
But seriously, what the hell IS on Joey's head?
I decided to look it up and it's a champagne chiller polished really well, looks like the Stanley cup
I don't mind their one song. But that's the thing, they only have one song (they all sound the same).
