Ask Lemmy
A Fediverse community for open-ended, thought provoking questions
Rules: (interactive)
1) Be nice and; have fun
Doxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, toxicity and dog-whistling are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them
2) All posts must end with a '?'
This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?
3) No spam
Please do not flood the community with nonsense. Actual suspected spammers will be banned on site. No astroturfing.
4) NSFW is okay, within reason
Just remember to tag posts with either a content warning or a [NSFW] tag. Overtly sexual posts are not allowed, please direct them to either !asklemmyafterdark@lemmy.world or !asklemmynsfw@lemmynsfw.com.
NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].
5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions.
If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email info@lemmy.world. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.
6) No US Politics.
Please don't post about current US Politics. If you need to do this, try !politicaldiscussion@lemmy.world or !askusa@discuss.online
Reminder: The terms of service apply here too.

4chan, reddit, twitter, millitary dot com, dattalion and NARA are a few.
Also bestgore, ebaums world, and a few others just off the tip of my tongue (if they're even still around). Warning to OP: I went through a phase in my late teens / early twenties when I was obsessed with seeing the realities of the darkest aspects of the world. It did me a great disservice and worsened my anxiety and depression. I strongly advise against seeing the realities of war and death.
Second this. Listen to this person. There really isn't anything to be gained by viewing this content that your imagination can't fill in. The only thing I can think of is if you're going into the military or medicine where understanding and desensitizarion may serve a purpose... Maybe, but even then. It will change you.
Third this. I’m actually impressed by how the internet has cleansed itself of easy access to gore and real violence. I get the curiosity, but deep down, your imagination of how brutal it can be doesn’t need validation of how brutal it is. Not seeing it but knowing it occurs doesn’t make one naive. Seeing it doesn’t enlighten you. We’re as awful as you can imagine.
Im pretty limited in my experience but I don't look to see this stuff. The mild things I have seen are more than aweful enough. What really sucks is I thought we were getting better as a species and I kinda feel we got worse.
