Okay.. So he went to Russia in 2003. Considering that the consensus in 2003 was that Russia was still on its way to becoming a democracy I am not that offended by it personally.
"Putin's hometown" being St. Petersburg, which is the 2nd biggest city in Russia.

What is more worrying is all the things that happened since 2003.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 109 points 3 months ago (1 children)

It means he has been getting gifts from Harlan Crow for at least 20 years.

[–] ThePantser@lemmy.world 26 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Are these guys like lovers? They are sure close.

[–] MegaUltraChicken@lemmy.world 31 points 3 months ago (1 children)

They all go to a secretive 2 week slumber party in California every year where they don't allow women. Wouldn't surprise me in the least if these two had some sword fights. Sorry for conjuring that visual for someone.

[–] SkybreakerEngineer@lemmy.world 28 points 3 months ago

Not just any slumber party, Bohemian Grove. Famed among all the conspiracy theorists for being the main place where "they" sacrifice kids to Satan... but when it's their boy taking selfies there, not a peep.

[–] cygnus@lemmy.ca 55 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

Yeah, describing St Petersburg as "Putin's hometown" is pretty manipulative. It's a beautiful city, historically a popular tourist destination and home to one of the world's best museums.

[–] nilloc@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 3 months ago

Probably not cheap to chopper into and stay at either, which is the main point, but apparently not sensational enough alone.

[–] PythagreousTitties@lemm.ee 12 points 3 months ago

It's a pattern.

[–] evergreen@lemmy.world 6 points 3 months ago

It's probably how they obtained kompromat with which they can control him.

[–] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 6 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

I'm surprised they didn't call it Leningrad to drive home the point. Dude's a turd, there's no need to make shit up to make him look bad.

[–] Drusas@kbin.run 117 points 3 months ago (3 children)

He took a fucking helicopter trip to Putin's palace. Literally. How is there anybody who can't see the writing on the wall? This man is beyond compromised.

[–] TheLowestStone@lemmy.world 24 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Come on my dude. They are probably just friends and ol' Vlad was just giving him a belated or early birthday gift over a lovely brunch of blinis and caviar.

Average Lemmy user: hold my bear

[–] luciferofastora@lemmy.zip 11 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (2 children)

Okay, I'm holding your bear, what now? It looks fluffy, can I pet it? Is it cuddle-safe?

It seems the Russians won the war after all, as I look around at all of these clearly compromised people running our country, or trying to run the country. Half our political system is ensuring they do this without any criticism whatsoever.

The idiots have all but won. Idiocracy is becoming a reality, and I say that with no humor or jest whatsoever.

And is anyone going to do anything about this man?

[–] acockworkorange@mander.xyz 23 points 3 months ago (1 children)

The Supreme Court just granted immunity to President Biden, so he can send him and the other traitors to Guantanamo without fear of legal repercussions. Of course not, nothing’s going to happen.

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works 8 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (3 children)

This seems to be a common misconception.

The Supreme Court did not give Biden immunity. They gave the president immunity for carrying out official acts. Who determines what an official act is? The Supreme Court.

Biden doesn't have immunity. I'd argue he doesn't have immunity as president, either.

[–] acockworkorange@mander.xyz 10 points 3 months ago

That’s the thing about this though. I’d like to see them try to prevent that from within Guantanamo. It’s not legal neither moral, yet it can’t be stopped using the law.

[–] catloaf@lemm.ee 8 points 3 months ago (4 children)

True, but Republicans seem to have taken the position that you can do whatever you want while the consequences work their way through the courts.

Kind of hard to rule from a jail cell, and I'm guessing that he'd have died of old age by the time something like this was ruled on, regardless. I say, go out with a legacy of giving the court (and the GOP) what they deserve.

[–] betterdeadthanreddit@lemmy.world 11 points 3 months ago

Will no one rid me of this turbulent "justice"?

[–] AshMan85@lemmy.world 9 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (4 children)

Yeah... they are impeaching him.

[–] Sanctus@lemmy.world 22 points 3 months ago (4 children)

It's still surprisingly small a price for selling out such a large and powerful country.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 16 points 3 months ago

Whereas I'm sure the money and the powerful friends and the luxury trips and the free RVs and houses are a big reason he hasn't retired a long time ago.

I mean, this is just shit journalism. That guy is clearly a money grabbing cunt but one look at the article tells you that he was given a private cruise round the Baltics, which is an extremely common route and would have stopped in Estonia, Latvia etc before ending up in St Petersbourg, the same as dozens of cruise ships every day.

Then a private helicopter flight to one of the most popular tourist spots in St P's

Yes, the guy obviously needs investigating, but headlines like that are just fucking infantile ragebait and detract from any point the 'journalist' was trying to make

[–] mvilain@fedia.io 9 points 3 months ago

Someone should suggest Clarence play a game of solitare. If the Chinese can Manchurian someone, I'm sure Putin's got something similar.

[–] Snapz@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago
