We live in the weirdest timelines.
Sonic revitalised video game adaptions.
But splinter cell, arguably one of the easiest things to adapt (style wise) gets merced.

I have a feeling it's because zany animated movies are an easier sell to kids.

[–] Mandy@sh.itjust.works 5 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

i mean im a smoothbrain but, i think splinter cell would probably be equally cheap to make since you have so much less cgi youd need

[–] acosmichippo@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

dunno about budget, I'm just taking in terms of the demand for these types of movies.

[–] Mandy@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 hours ago

yeah, thats fair

Oh well, can't be disappointed about something I didn't even know was in the works lol

Tom Hardy was doing a Splinter Cell movie?

[–] spankmonkey@lemmy.world 39 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Apparently the announcement was made in stealth mode.

What better way to advertise your clandestine movie than with clandestine marketing?

Do kids nowadays even know what Splinter Cell is?

People in their 20s are familiar will Splinter Cell classics like Splinter Cell Conviction.

[–] JigglySackles@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

Doubtful. But that could let it be an r rated or high pg13 option.

[–] PunchingWood@lemmy.world 7 points 3 hours ago

I bet it's a major reason why they decided to drop it.

Unless they'd pair it with a new game. Wasn't the last one over 10 years ago?

[–] Agent_Karyo@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

I doubt it.

Anything Splinter Cell without Michael Ironside's voice would be weird.

[–] Coelacanth@feddit.nu 2 points 4 hours ago

All I want is a final proper send-off Splinter Cell before he dies. Sam Fisher's final job type vibe. I think there is some cool potential there - not that I trust Ubisoft to pull it off, mind.

[–] MegaUltraChicken@lemmy.world 3 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

And not including Sam Fisher would also be weird.

Like the Splinter Cell books? (At least the first one)

[–] MegaUltraChicken@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

I never read any of the books, I kind of fell off of Clancy quite a while ago. Worth reading?

[–] Nilz@sopuli.xyz 3 points 2 hours ago

I only read the first one so far. It's alright but they're not written by Clancy sadly.
