Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

For those interested, caffeine is stable and does not degrade due to phase change of the substance that contains it 👍

[–] Stamets@lemmy.world 76 points 1 month ago (2 children)

SO CAFFEINCICLES ARE ON?

HELL YESSSSSSSSSSSS

[–] OldManBOMBIN@lemmy.world 42 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Let's be real, you were never gonna stop regardless. You're too in love with the feel of biting ice to quit.

[–] Stamets@lemmy.world 28 points 1 month ago (3 children)

Oh no, I suck on it. I broke a tooth the second I turned 30 by biting into day old baklava and now I fear hard things

[–] dependencyinjection@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Sucks if you’re gay 😉

[–] Couldbealeotard@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

At that point, just take your dentures out

[–] fraksken@infosec.pub 2 points 1 month ago

/doesn't/ ...? I mean ... If you fear hard things, you wouldn't suck, right?

[–] OldManBOMBIN@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Man, so what's it like being afraid of gangsters?

[–] tetris11@feddit.uk 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

day old baklava

wait, what?

[–] Stamets@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] tetris11@feddit.uk 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

How do you chip a tooth on baklava? I've never seen it get so hard

[–] Stamets@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

I didn't chip it, I broke it straight in half. It was old and hard and I bit down on it on my back molars. Real hard. Shit turned to concrete and had a tiny bit of give so I pushed harder. Back lower molar just cracked straight down the middle.

the only thing lost will be carbonation

[–] Korhaka@sopuli.xyz 13 points 1 month ago

Sweet, time for some caffeine plasma shots.

[–] Truscape@lemm.ee 5 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Does this mean making a joint with caffeine powder mixed in is on the menu?

[–] OldManBOMBIN@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

The general consensus, as far as I can tell, is that it could work but might taste bad; it would be better to freebase or snort the caffeine.

[–] Obi@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 month ago

That's just called breakfast.

I feel like I'm being scammed

[–] protist@mander.xyz 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I....don't remember responding to this post. Did I somehow accidentally post a blank comment? Am I being scammed?

[–] OldManBOMBIN@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

My God. We've both been got.

If they can't tell the difference, then either

  • It doesn't change the efficacy of the caffeine
  • They don't need "maximum torque"
[–] GluWu@lemm.ee 52 points 1 month ago (4 children)

For anyone who prefers hot, you can rest assured that your Monster® soups and stews will also retain full caffiene efficacy.

[–] Zizzy@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 1 month ago

Some people boil their chicken in nyquil. I choose to boil mine in Monster

[–] ZeffSyde@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

[–] alx@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I’m so in for the monstew

[–] Caketaco@lemmy.dbzer0.com 37 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (3 children)

Isn’t this the guy who boofed a monster energy popsicle to see if it caffeinated him? Or was that a different post?

[–] Hawk@lemmy.dbzer0.com 41 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I have no idea what "boofed" means, but in the context of this post, I'm just going to assume he put it up his ass?

[–] pressedhams@lemmy.blahaj.zone 37 points 1 month ago (1 children)

What a strong use of context clues!

[–] Hawk@lemmy.dbzer0.com 23 points 1 month ago

I'm a bit anal about it

[–] BetaBlake@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago

What a sentence

[–] Derpenheim@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 month ago

Bro wtf. I keep rereading your comment hoping a moment of "yeah that makes sense" comes about, but i just keep getting flashbanged by it's contents.

For anyone who was curious, a quick review of search results provided the following:

Staying torqued for the homies

[–] PyroNeurosis@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 1 month ago

More torque? May I suggest a longer lever on which to act?

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago
