A man named Vance Boelter allegedly shot and killed Melissa Hortman, a Democratic Minnesota state representative, and her husband Mark Hortman at their home at some point early Saturday morning while, according to law enforcement, impersonating a police officer. He also allegedly shot state senator John Hoffman and his wife Yvette Hoffman at their home. They are alive, but remain in critical condition.

Law enforcement has said they found a manifesto and hit list in the alleged suspect’s car, which included politicians, abortion providers, and pro-abortion rights advocates. There were also allegedly fliers in his car for the “No Kings” protest against President Donald Trump, which took place in cities across the US on Saturday.

The 57-year-old, who has been identified as the suspected shooter according to numerous reports, runs an armed security service with his wife, and has been affiliated with at least one evangelical organization, a ministry he has also run with his wife, according to a tax filing reviewed by WIRED. (His wife could not be immediately reached for comment.) According to public records and archived websites reviewed by WIRED, the suspect served for a time as the president of Revoformation Ministries. A version of the ministry’s website captured in 2011 carries a biography in which he is said to have been ordained in 1993.

Not a gay trans Democrat?

[–] DreamAccountant@lemmy.world 7 points 6 hours ago

Where does the hate come from? Religion. This priest spread hate his entire life, then decided he's going around murdering people due to his "higher morality" than the average population.

There are hundreds of priests that do the same everyday, spread hate in the name of their hate religion.

If you're christian, this is what christianity actually looks like. Not the one that they're trying to sell, the REAL christianity. The one that goes out into the communjity and murders those that they hate.

Another right wing shooter? But social media commenters all say he's a dangerous Democrat! (I've seen it on Facebook, Threads, Bluesky)

[–] PunnyName@lemmy.world 33 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

Conservative subreddit is

a) bitching about Kamala being inserted in without a primary, and

b) calling out the heinous* nature of the shooting

Such is the duality of idiots.

[–] Oyml77@lemmy.today 17 points 9 hours ago

Look, if the shooter's not a dangerous antifa Democrat or jihadist Muslim or violent immigrant or black or drag queen or other New World Orlder operative, obviously it was mental illness. White Christians could only do this sort of thing if they were mentally ill. Or it was the ADHD meds or SSRIs.

At least that's what I've heard from Alex Fucking Jones. Or he'll claim it was a false flag. Every shooting. Every time.

I'm shocked! Shocked. I promise. Totally surprised.

[–] resipsaloquitur@lemmy.world 2 points 6 hours ago

Almost like they’re protecting.

[–] solrize@lemmy.ml 14 points 7 hours ago

The alleged shooter is a 57-year-old white male; according to his ministry's website, he “sought out militant Islamists in order to share the gospel and tell them that violence wasn't the answer.”

He went to persuade the militants and they persuaded him instead? "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you."

[–] ChillPenguin@lemmy.world 19 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

Why am I not surprised? Might as well check his home for kiddie stuff too. Checking all the boxes at this rate.

Worked for a company called Praetorian that he and his wife created. Using that as the name of your private security is suspect based on the Praetorian Guard and its history.

I’m guessing he was one of those Republican hires in an attempt to be bipartisan.

Also, the photo of the No Kings flyers that I saw looked weird. They don’t look like they are flyers with any info, just cut squares of paper that say “No Kings” on them from what I saw. If what I saw is legit, it feels potentially planted evidence?

Edit 1: Photo of flyers I’ve seen on various stories

Edit 2: YES, HE WAS REGISTERED REPUBLICAN AS OF 2022 per the NY Post

[–] mokus@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 hour ago

Dude apparently put a lot of work into his cop impersonation but I’m sure these are totally legit 🤦‍♀️

[–] triptrapper@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago

Those look like a bunch of photocopies, like someone who's never been to a protest but wants the cops to think he's a protestor. Ya know, by bringing 100 paper photocopies of the name of the protest, like a protestor would.

[–] UraniumForBreakfast@lemm.ee 20 points 9 hours ago

People at the ‘No Kings’ protests are likely also pro-choice.

Based on his manifesto, checks out that he’d go there to cause trouble.

[–] MelodiousFunk@slrpnk.net 32 points 10 hours ago

I think there are more "allegedly" uses in this one article than in the entirety of MSM Luigi coverage.

[–] Linktank@lemmy.today 54 points 11 hours ago

Religious? Shocker.

[–] the_dark_timeline69@lemmy.world 29 points 10 hours ago

It's always the ones you most suspect.

[–] teamevil@lemmy.world 10 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Which verse in the Bible does Jesus get all murdery against those that are not Nazis?

[–] DreamAccountant@lemmy.world 5 points 6 hours ago

In the beginning. The entire first part of the bible, where the god floods the Earth for being too sinful. Then turns entire cities to salt for being LGBTQ.

That's the part of christianity that the christians follow, you're just reading a chapter and ignoring the rest. Then you go "WHA? Why all the hate?" Well, the hate was spelled out in the first 10 chapters.

You ignored it and pretended it doesn't exist.

That's on you, dummy.

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 18 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

But I was told the woke liberals are the real danger that need to be actively and violently suppressed.

[–] pinesolcario@lemy.lol -2 points 6 hours ago

Something liberals need to start understanding is they are going to protests where in some liberal states are deemed illegal to carry weapons in. Literally the Democratic Party is making all of us less safe with their gun control bullshit. Democrats are helping fascist create and limit access which helps the fascists. It’s bullshit.

[–] burgerpocalyse@lemmy.world 4 points 7 hours ago

i offer now as the time for anyone to make the argument that this was a leftist

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 6 points 9 hours ago (2 children)

I'm surprised this wasn't an ex-J6er. Still, I wonder if Trump will pardon him?

[–] LilB0kChoy@midwest.social 3 points 6 hours ago

Can't pardon someone from state charges.

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 5 points 7 hours ago

I mean he's like one cliche away from being on Epstein's flight logs.

Every time I see these things happen it makes me feel in my gut that it's someone forced to do them.

The person that commits them may have aligned with some more wild things, but I feel like these people get targeted and manipulated until they do stuff like this.

Like Q anon... These people that subscribe to that don't realize they are being played out by the deep state they claim to hate.

It feels like there's a psychological war going on and this is exactly how the war is played out, targeting people the can utilize and manifesting events like this so that it looks like a lone wolf.

Q anon, maga, deep state, and gangstalkers.... It all aligns. And it's all intertwined in all aspects of America's foundation.

[–] CmdrShepard49@sh.itjust.works 21 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

there's a psychological war going on and this is exactly how the war is played out

This is literally the tag line for InfoWars, except their followers don't realize Alex Jones is openly admitting that he's manipulating them with this statement in a fight against some make believe boogeyman.

[–] peteyestee@feddit.org 0 points 5 hours ago

Right, that's why I say they don't realize they are the pawns of the deep state.

[–] gAlienLifeform@lemmy.world 15 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

There are definitely more people responsible for this than the one person who pulled a trigger, but he certainly is responsible for that. Being manipulated is not the same as being forced to do something.

[–] peteyestee@feddit.org 0 points 5 hours ago

I think it's people getting forced to though too. Crime isn't just something for poor street people. It's business, it's politics. The older i get I really it's kind of all bullshit. There is no law and order... There's the game and game players, and then their the people that live under the veil of rules and laws made by the people playing the game. It's scales up from the way gangs and Mafia work all the way up to the government and military.

[–] AreaKode@lemmy.world 14 points 10 hours ago

You get someone desperate, you convince them that they and their opinions matter, you reinforce this thought process and suggest doing something that matters for the "greater good". Welcome to domestic terrorism 101.
