I have an ASUS Zenfone 8 and I love that even the latest version still has a 3.5mm out, but I just started poking around in the settings for my Samsung Galaxy tablet and realized that Samsung Galaxy devices get Dolby Atmos. (Movies have never been better!) It got me thinking, what phones do other auditorily-inclined people use? Does AptX/LDAC support matter to you? Does audio go into your purchasing decisions at all?

S10e. I refuse to buy any phone without a headphone jack. Will get the zenfone 9 or 10 when this one dies.

Sony XZ1 Compact. It's a small android phone. I hate how there are no affordable small Android phones being made anymore.

[–] Roifilhamm@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

just an old Pixel 3, paired it with either Moondrop Click or BTR3k

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5. Amazing for multitasking and gaming.

Fiio BTR5 with LDAC is a perfect pairing for being an on-the-go audiophile.

Still daily drive my LG V60 for almost 3 years now, using it because it can drive pretty much all of my headphones and iems with ease even my 250ohm beyer sounds full and dynamic with the V60 headphone jack. The sound is also very clean on the V60 no distortion what so ever to be heard even with the sensitive iem. Previously I'm using LG G7 which sounds amazing too before the screen suddenly not working and decided to upgrade it to the V60.

I have one too! I'm sad though, because the USB port is finnicky and I have to position it in a particular way to get it to play nice, so I can't use a USB-C DAC with it or anything.

I also switched to T-Mobile so I'm having problems... I might just say fuck it and find a T-Mobile LG V60 online and buy a new one of those, lmao

Pixel 7. Audio anything means nothing to me. It's a phone.

[–] ApfelRotkohl@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

iPhone 15PM + AirPods Pro. IMO AirPods Pro is good enough for casual listening since I couldn't tell a difference in audio quality while doing daily tasks. Apple Music's Dolby Atmos is great and better than Tidal and Amazon Dolby.

Qudelix-5K with Apple AAC Bluetooth is good enough for IEM and headphones with high impedance.

LG V60 as my music player since I'm a data hoarder with a lot of ripped vinyls, cds.

iPhone 15 Pro. With the usb-c port it does not limitate me from connecting DAC’s and amplifiers via cable

[–] Choice-Counter-1166@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

OPPO Find N with BTR5. Love them foldables.

I use a Samsung galaxy s22 ultra because my first phone was a Samsung and I never searched to an another brand

[–] neon_overload@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Samsung Galaxy A52

It has a 3.5mm jack, aptx support and dolby atmos, but I've never touched the latter, why would I want some algorithm mucking with my audio?

Poco X3 Pro. It was $200 new and barely released when I got it.

It has an IR blaster, SD card, tons of storage even without the SD card, the processor is not that weak, up to 120 Hz refresh rate, audio jack, etc.

It's a bombshell for the money I paid and still gets updates.

Sony Xperia 1 IV

I just like them

[–] Square-Try5131@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

LG V60, I like the large and good quality display, in-built ess dac and the dual screen case. The sound quality is pretty good so for casual listening, I don't need to carry a separate dongle DAC or Bluetooth DAC. I also have a dedicated DAP for when I'm serious about music while on the go so this works out well for me.

Iphone because of automatic bitrate and sampling rate adjustment paired with Qudelix 5k and Apple Music.

This combo best.

iPhone XR. I don’t really listen to music outside of the house

Samsung A54 5G, with either my Samsung dongle or Fiio KA3 for audio.

I use my oneplus 6t with a dongle as my DAP since my fiio x1 finally broke.
I would absolutely not use a phone as a music player cause

  1. you use up battery you need for phone to function as a phone
  2. unless your music horizons are non existant or you only stream, your phones memory is used up with half your library
  3. the solders on ports will work harden and will break leaving you with a very expensive brick

Just get a dap for 300 that will last you a decade.

[–] Prime_1427@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Using Pixel 7. I use my Abigail Dongle Dacs to use with my IEMs.

[–] saltukbrohan@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I'm considering getting a Samsung so I can use their proprietary bluetooth codec. My Superlux HD681 just stays at home anyway so don't nobody judge me for using the popular option of Galaxy Buds2

just swapped in a fresh battery for my V40. it is the perfect DAP.

[–] The_Megapode@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Asus Zenfone 10 here. No ragerts.

[–] Ri_Konata@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Starting later today, Asus Zenfone 10 (literally ordered it yesterday).

As for why, that's obvious, no? It has a headphone jack.

[–] RB181@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Samsung Galaxy S10+ with 1 TB of storage. I listen mostly to local files, hence the 1 TB. It also happens to be their last flagship phone with a headphone jack. In hindsight, it was my best purchase ever.

[–] blugiallo@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Fairphone. Because I can replace the battery anytime

[–] Ophanil@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I use an iPhone. I love music but I'm not about to be green-text guy, I don't care how good the DAC is.

[–] jazemo19@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Zenfone 9, the jack was just the cherry on top of a great small-ish device

[–] Outrageous--Anxiety@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

LG V60 with the Quad DAC, the sound improvement compared to my other devices are insane. I love this phone so much.

[–] voteforrice@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Pixel 6 and 8 cause I care about camera quality and software experience. when I'm out and about I use a btr5 with IEMs or wireless IEMs.
