So out of like the top 50 all time players, who had a rookie season most comparable to a Peyton Manning or a Troy Aikman, where they really struggled and their future almost looked questionable

Steve Nash averaged 3.3/0.7/2.1 on 42.3 FG%

[–] UnhingedSupernova@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Imagine if he played in this era.

He'd be treated like how Scoot is treated but worse.

[–] MENDoombunny@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He had like 3 pointguards on his team, that wasnt his fault really

[–] JoeTheHoe@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Not a season per say, but arguably Kobe’s most infamous game was that Disasterpiece with all the airballs.

[–] yic0@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (6 children)

Steve Nash’s rookie year:

  • 65 games (10.5 mpg)

  • 3.3 ppg

  • 1 rpg

  • 2.1 apg

Playing behind JKidd and Kevin Johnson. Both a brutal and good situation for him. Brutal in the sense that his minutes were severely limited. Good in the sense that he had two very talented mentors.

It’s impressive he even manages to get on the court given his situation.

[–] SunsFan97@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Kidd and KJ both went on the record to say that Nash killed it in practice everytime. It was not an ideal situation because the Suns had playoff aspirations the time.

[–] jabroniski@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I think Sam Cassell was on that team as well.

[–] ForneauCosmique@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

That guy clearly has no future. I've seen enough

Kobe averaged 7 ppg his rookie year

[–] _Pho-Dac-Biet_@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)
[–] xpillindaass@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

kawhi started on a playoff team his rookie year

[–] Baconmazing@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Yeah but no one questioned if Kobe was going to be bad because of his Rookie Season. That may not be the question though.

Kobe only took 5.9 FGA per game his rookie year and averaged 7.6 points per game. That's a 55% TS%, which ain't bad.

frustrating year watching him on the bench despite eddie jones being a 8/10

[–] redundantPOINT@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Yeah but he still played 15 minutes per game on a contender as an 18 year old rookie

If you consider Ben Wallace an all time great he played 35 games his rookie year and average 1.1/1.7/0.1 on 34/0/30 splits averaging 5.8 mpg

[–] dvs1978@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

And he did get postered by Kobe, so at least he had that ...

[–] mookz23@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He is absolutely an all-time great, but he is not one of the best 50 players ever (as the question asks).

[–] alwaysrecord@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Wizards legend

[–] forever87@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

he's not all time 50, but Jimmy Butler

[–] igby1@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

MJ only averaged 28 as a rookie

[–] AlienGhost000@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)
[–] Team-ster@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

lol 🍺🍺

[–] ArrogantAragorn@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Along with 6.5 reb, 5.9 ast, and 2.4 steals on 52/17/85 shooting

[–] Chase2020J@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (3 children)

Giannis was still a huge question mark his rookie year, idk if he was "bad" but didn't stand out at all

[–] Aggravating-Pin-4588@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

He was a clear project piece and his potential was very much apparent. Playing for the bucks in 2014 was never gonna result in decent rookie numbers. Didn’t he make the rising stars game in his rookie year?

[–] thesch@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Yeah if you go back and watch when he was drafted Fran Fraschilla even says "this is not a guy who is going to make an impact year 1, he's a long-term project."

John Stockton’s wasn’t great, although he was getting decent steals numbers even then: 5.6/1.3/5.1 with 1.3 spg.

[–] TrainedExplains@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Pretty damn effective for a backup in an era where PGs didn’t score.

[–] Sti8man7@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Isiah Thomas would like to have a word.

[–] 300_yard_drives@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Gary Payton

Alot to mention here, we got nash, we got dirk, even kobe can be on this debate but doesnt matter cause these guys proved in their longevity in the league that they are indeed superstars

[–] robydoge@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He's not exactly an all time great yet, and he ended up playing pretty well towards the second half of his rookie season, but Donovan Mitchell had a terrible start to his nba career. Shot 25% from the floor on 10 shots a night his first 5 games, and 38% on 14 shots a night his first 20. Literal black hole.

Reading all of these comments trying to keep my hopes up on Scoot 🥲

[–] The_Dok33@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (5 children)

Charlotte fans are in similar mood about their rook.

Probably even Spurs fans are starting to wonder

[–] Electrical_Panic4550@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Spurs fans are not wondering. Wemby is legit.

[–] PoonGo0n@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I have zero doubt about Victor going forward lol. Literally his “struggles” in a very young season have all been expected to anyone who’s followed him prior to this year. He’s going to be a monster.

Jordan Poole was considered statistically one of the worst players in the league his rookie year. I said what I said. Remind me of this in 15 years when he's the GOAT

[–] MoNastri@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

"Michael" Jordan Poole

Paul George waited for Danny Granger to get injured to rise. Not sure if you would consider him an all time great, but definitely an excellent player

[–] growsonwalls@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

KD was pretty trash his rookie year compared to his later seasons:

43% FG, 28.8% 3P, 20.3 ppg.

He won ROY but he wasn't really putting up the monster numbers he'd later put up.

[–] n00bmaest3r69@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Jokić, Giannis and Kobe, but Giannis and Kobe were long-term prospects.

I remember times, when it was a debate if Jokić or Nurkić should start for Denver
