Not a season per say, but arguably Kobe’s most infamous game was that Disasterpiece with all the airballs.

Playing behind JKidd and Kevin Johnson. Both a brutal and good situation for him. Brutal in the sense that his minutes were severely limited. Good in the sense that he had two very talented mentors.
It’s impressive he even manages to get on the court given his situation.
Kidd and KJ both went on the record to say that Nash killed it in practice everytime. It was not an ideal situation because the Suns had playoff aspirations the time.
I think Sam Cassell was on that team as well.

Yeah but no one questioned if Kobe was going to be bad because of his Rookie Season. That may not be the question though.
Kobe only took 5.9 FGA per game his rookie year and averaged 7.6 points per game. That's a 55% TS%, which ain't bad.
frustrating year watching him on the bench despite eddie jones being a 8/10
Yeah but he still played 15 minutes per game on a contender as an 18 year old rookie

If you consider Ben Wallace an all time great he played 35 games his rookie year and average 1.1/1.7/0.1 on 34/0/30 splits averaging 5.8 mpg
And he did get postered by Kobe, so at least he had that ...
He is absolutely an all-time great, but he is not one of the best 50 players ever (as the question asks).

Giannis was still a huge question mark his rookie year, idk if he was "bad" but didn't stand out at all
He was a clear project piece and his potential was very much apparent. Playing for the bucks in 2014 was never gonna result in decent rookie numbers. Didn’t he make the rising stars game in his rookie year?
Yeah if you go back and watch when he was drafted Fran Fraschilla even says "this is not a guy who is going to make an impact year 1, he's a long-term project."

John Stockton’s wasn’t great, although he was getting decent steals numbers even then: 5.6/1.3/5.1 with 1.3 spg.
Pretty damn effective for a backup in an era where PGs didn’t score.

Alot to mention here, we got nash, we got dirk, even kobe can be on this debate but doesnt matter cause these guys proved in their longevity in the league that they are indeed superstars
He's not exactly an all time great yet, and he ended up playing pretty well towards the second half of his rookie season, but Donovan Mitchell had a terrible start to his nba career. Shot 25% from the floor on 10 shots a night his first 5 games, and 38% on 14 shots a night his first 20. Literal black hole.

Paul George waited for Danny Granger to get injured to rise. Not sure if you would consider him an all time great, but definitely an excellent player
KD was pretty trash his rookie year compared to his later seasons:
43% FG, 28.8% 3P, 20.3 ppg.
He won ROY but he wasn't really putting up the monster numbers he'd later put up.
Jokić, Giannis and Kobe, but Giannis and Kobe were long-term prospects.
I remember times, when it was a debate if Jokić or Nurkić should start for Denver
