Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

Congrats, enjoy getting rejected by both genders.

[–] sag@ani.social 53 points 4 months ago (1 children)

rejected by both genders.

You didn't need to tell the truth on the Internet xD.

[–] eestileib@lemmy.blahaj.zone 34 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Don't worry, there are way more than two genders to strike out with! Think big!

Now you can enjoy explaining to people how you have double the dating pool but are somehow still single. Unless you arent i guess...

[–] flandish@lemmy.world 44 points 4 months ago (1 children)

let’s be honest, we’re on lemmy. double zero is still zero.

[–] replicator@sh.itjust.works 22 points 4 months ago

the famous "attracted to everyone, but no one attracted to you" 😔

[–] antonim@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

double the dating pool

More like, 5% bigger dating pool if you went hetero→bi.

But also 20x the dating pool if gay→bi.

[–] unexposedhazard@discuss.tchncs.de 8 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I just assumed that OP is so attractive that any man or woman would instantly fall for them.

[–] sag@ani.social 4 points 4 months ago

Bad Luck, I am the most ugliest fucker born in my entire bloodline 😭. Even my Grand Grand Pa was mogging when he was young.

[–] LuckingFurker@lemmy.blahaj.zone 55 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Is that every other sexual or twice every sexual?

[–] eRac@lemmings.world 32 points 4 months ago (1 children)

It means they only finish every other sex. Semisexuals are twice per sex.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 11 points 4 months ago

I thought those were hemisexuals this is so confusing

[–] naught@sh.itjust.works 30 points 4 months ago

Good for you and all my love to you.

Just a reminder, nothing about human sexuality is set in stone .... we are very complicated beings.

What your preference today is not the same as it was a year or two ago and it may not be the same years from now. We grow, we evolve, we change with time, environment, genetics, mentality and circumstances.

Some people maintain their sexual preferences the same all their lives .... some people change over time ... some people are just all over the place.

What I do know is that none of it matters. The common denominator is that you feel love, want love, want love shared with you and you want to share love with others.

So no matter what you think or feel, as long as you are safe and the person you are with loves you and you love them and both of you consent to whatever it is you both want to do .... none of it matters to the rest of us or the world ... who you are at this moment is perfect.

Nice. Now go do crimes.

Congratulation on accepting the person that you are. I hope that you get to live your best life soon. 🏳️‍🌈❤️

[–] JadenSmith@sh.itjust.works 9 points 4 months ago

Congratulations on finding personal acceptance of an important part of one's identity.

Not everyone will be welcoming, though you will one day be able to use this as foresight to guiding yourself towards good people - people who would accept you irl as well as online.

Stay good to yourself.

[–] chocrates@piefed.world 9 points 4 months ago

Awesome! No shame, be the best person you can be!

[–] recursive_recursion@piefed.ca 8 points 4 months ago

Congrats!🥳🙌

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 8 points 4 months ago (4 children)

Neat! I'm in a similar situation. I have no need to come out to anyone but my wife, and she's cool, so she's the only person who knows me who knows.

[–] abcde_fz@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago

Same. Lol I am looking for some thing profound but that's kind of it. Neat, and same 😊.

Congrats on accepting yourself! It’s a tough road, but believe me it’s worth it <3 <3

[–] sexy_peach@feddit.org 7 points 4 months ago (1 children)

[–] DmMacniel@feddit.org 7 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

Mhm, but what about Pansexual or Asexual?

[–] OrteilGenou@lemmy.world 11 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Asexual? What's the matter, didn't study hard enough to be A+sexual?

[–] TheAlbatross@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 4 months ago (5 children)

We even paid for that tutor and this is how you pay us back??

Congrats. You get the best of both worlds.

Mazel tov! It's pretty great, not gonna lie

In the same boat. Comfortable with who and what I am, not comfortable with the world knowing.

[–] fantacyde@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 4 months ago

Awesome! I had an awakening moment a while back and I actually feel better about myself because looking back a lot of things make sense now in my personal life.

[–] chosensilence@pawb.social 4 points 4 months ago

ayy congrats! :D

[–] HakunaHafada@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 4 months ago

Congrats! 💪

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Congrats on being greedy and indecisive - it's the best!

[–] davidagain@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Congrats on misinterpreting other sexualities as character flaws.

If you had to decide not to find people of the same gender sexually attractive, you're not as straight as you like to think.

[–] SuperNovaStar@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I could have sworn that the comment you were replying to was satire. I suppose that due to Poe's Law I can't be sure of that though...

[–] davidagain@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Maybe, but like you say, is this an absurd parody of an insane rightwing nutjob, or just an insane rightwing nutjob? So hard to tell, and these days I find Onion headlines about what the GOP says completely plausible, no longer reacting "surely not?!" but instead "of course they do."

In any case this is an attitude from yesteryear that should have stayed there and needs calling out.

If it was sarcasm, I'm agreeing with the intent of its author and if it wasn't, I'm gleefully disagreeing.
