Be nice. Assume others have good intent (within reason).

Block or ignore posts, comments, and users that irritate you in some way rather than engaging. Report if they are actually breaking community rules.

Most 196 posts are memes, shitposts, cute images, or even just recent things that happened, etc. There is no real theme, but try to avoid posts that are very inflammatory, offensive, very low quality, or very "off topic".

Bigotry is not allowed, this includes (but is not limited to): Homophobia, Transphobia, Racism, Sexism, Abelism, Classism, or discrimination based on things like Ethnicity, Nationality, Language, or Religion.

Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

Only one faction can rule the crispy apples.

[–] artifex@piefed.social 30 points 4 days ago (4 children)

The honeycrips are my favorite.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 11 points 4 days ago

Watch them take on the blood oranges.

[–] Quetzalcutlass@lemmy.world 10 points 4 days ago

The Cosmic Crips are even better, albeit expensive.

[–] FriskyDingo@sh.itjust.works 4 points 4 days ago

Galas are similarly sweet and much less expensive

I thought they were called chips in the US.

[–] nexguy@lemmy.world 21 points 4 days ago

There is a big violent rivalry in the United States between Crisps and Buns

is it the colors? different gang, different color?

I didn't expect gangs to be so accessible for people with Prosopagnosia!

[–] Dragonstaff@leminal.space 28 points 4 days ago (2 children)

In the US, the two major "gangs" in public consciousness are the "Bloods" who wear red bandanas and the "Crips" who wear blue. (The reality is more complicated than that, of course. And I'm pretty sure they aren't fighting any more.)

[–] Psythik@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

And shit like this is why I exclusively wear black or white bandanas.

From my understanding, those are the only two neutral colors, and even though serious gang activity hasn't really been a thing in the US since the 90s, I'm still not taking any chances.

I hope you're joking, this is incredibly silly.

Nobody would ever mistake you for a gangster. You're incredibly unlikely to go into a neighborhood this was ever an issue, and that was around 25 years ago.

A lot of what you've heard is just lies. Like the "flash your headlights and someone and get shot in a gang initiation" foolishness.

There's still blood and Crip activity one city over from where I am in Cali. But it's contained to like a tiny area that's basically three gettos all butting up against each other.

You would have to REALLY go out of your way to go there since there is fucking nothing but housing there.

[–] brbposting@sh.itjust.works 4 points 4 days ago (2 children)

They’re (maybe) not fighting anymore?!

Out of my element to be sure

[–] Holytimes@sh.itjust.works 1 points 23 hours ago

It's basically entirely contained to a handful of neighborhoods here or there that normal people have zero fucking reason to go to anyways unless they live there.

It basically doesn't spill over at all anywhere anymore. So for all functional purposes it's non-existent when compared to a few decades ago.

[–] Dragonstaff@leminal.space 2 points 3 days ago

They aren't. Violent crime is drastically down compared to the 90s.

She'll cut you and continue with her groceries.

You don't want that smoke.
