Yes, especially since I'm an asshole and there's no option to disable inbox replies for comments on Lemmy (so I can't just hit and run). Nearly gives me an anxiety attack every time.

I say relatively controversial shit(not to troll--things I actually believe in) quite often. I've gone since gotten used to lists of disparaging comments. It's better to take it as an interaction dopamine hit

Who cares what people on lemmy think about you or your opinions? I'd rather hear your honest opinion I disagree with than hear you agree with everybody else

No, it means I said something impactful enough for someone to respond. Even if they disagree with me it opens the door for a discussion. Maybe I'm wrong and I'm about to learn something, maybe I'll be able to explain something to someone else, maybe I'll get to argue with a moron, so many possibilities in those notifications.

I get the same feeling sometimes, but only when I posted something that I know could be going against the general opinion. Otherwise I'm happy to see the number go up

Coming from reddit where I used to post on big current affairs subs there isn't really anything comparable here.

I comment to put my opinion across and also to be challenged. It takes me a long time to change my mind on something but it's only by hearing opposing views that it ever happens. In the meantime I generally enjoy defending my position and that's what I'm here for. It's a different perspective from yours but if a bunch of people disagree with me I don't think that I'm "being corrected" I think "my correct opinion is in the minority here."

Nah, I like seeing big numbers in the notification box. Monkey brain likes big numbers going up. And it feeds my validation, that my comment is important enough for people to respond to.

Nope. I just go in periodically and click the button to mark all as read. The button doesn't actually verify that I've read them, basically just takes my word for it and then makes the number go away ... kind of in the Lemmy way where it might go away for a second, come back a minute later, go away again for awhile, then come back again for a bit, and then finally truly go away long term, permanently.

Joking aside, I get way too much hostility here on Lemmy for what amounts to making stupid boomer-style jokes and sharing personal anecdotes, so I don't even bother reading replies in my inbox anymore. I find my time on Lemmy is much more cathartic and enjoyable this way. Sadly, that does mean I probably miss out on some discussions or responses to questions I've asked, but at least I don't generally ever even see the nastiness and negativity towards me when I'm just here for a mostly light-hearted break from reality. And that works for me. After all, haters gonna hate, don't mean I gotta participate.
