Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Wow uh… does she want her fanbase to evaporate…? Because that’s a great way to do it.

[–] FoxyFerengi@startrek.website 81 points 2 months ago (3 children)

Her husband is a convicted rapist, and her brother is in prison for child rape. She loudly defended both of them, so I imagine she feels right at home with this admin

[–] FatVegan@leminal.space 21 points 2 months ago

So what you're saying is that she's gonna be a really good politician some day

Wow uh.. today I learned :(

[–] sik0fewl@lemmy.ca 8 points 2 months ago

This is where I put my foot down.

[–] velindora@lemmy.cafe 40 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I don’t think her fan base understands basic concepts.

[–] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 27 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I’m not personally a fan of her music, but I would still call that statement rather judgemental.

[–] HorreC@lemmy.world 20 points 2 months ago (1 children)

TBF they have done a lot of studies on the general populace in the americas and they have shown that the everyday person (which I am sure is a lot of her fans) doesnt care about any of it, they are so done with the nonstop barrage of shit some of it huge but takes years to do anything, most of it is just nothing burgers trying to get headlines. They are weary and need help, and I think that seems to be part of the plan to makes sure those that could help swing things are so checked out they just recoil when any subjects of that matter are brought up.

[–] Asafum@feddit.nl 14 points 2 months ago

That seems pretty accurate. I'm an American who would claim that they care more than the typical person and even I'm so fucking sick of it all. I'm completely resigned to the fact that AI is going to make all of our issues 100000x worse along with the media consolidation into the hands of right wing billionaires... Our so called justice system failed every check imagineable and is now in the hands of Trump cultists and our judiciary has been stacked with a rubber stamp majority for the next 30+ years. I have absolutely no faith for the future...

[–] velindora@lemmy.cafe 7 points 2 months ago (5 children)

I think it’s pretty accurate. Go find a big fan and tell them what she did and let me know how they don’t care. I’ll wait…

[–] AquaTofana@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago (3 children)

I wasn't "Barb" status but I liked her music enough to go to her concert.

All my downloads are deleted now though after this headline. I was already side eyeing her after she liked a tweet he made or whatever earlier this year.

No more watching her music vids or buying any future albums either. Had to do the same thing with Nova Rockafeller a couple years ago. God damnit.

My limited knowledge of her is that she kinda doesn't care.

Anyone else remember her bonkers tweet about the covid vaccine?

[–] Arghblarg@lemmy.ca 68 points 2 months ago (3 children)

Let's just stop caring what celebrities think, please. Unless they have education in science, economics, international relations, or other relevant areas they are even less qualified than random people on the street, as they are rich and likely out of touch with reality in multiple ways.

[–] cecilkorik@piefed.ca 28 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Let’s just stop caring what celebrities think, please. Unless they have education in science etc...

Mayim Bialik has a PhD in neuroscience and she's a vaccine skeptic and has a host of other offensively stupid ideas, so clearly not even having an education really counts as qualifications anymore.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 19 points 2 months ago (1 children)

There have been Nobel Prize winners who have held completely crackpot ideas outside of the often narrow field of research for which they won their prize: Shockley and Kary Mullis, to name two.

And it's not like Bialik is an immunologist. What's neuroscience got to do with vaccines?

I want to know exactly which celebrities to avoid, thanks.

[–] Ininewcrow@piefed.ca 5 points 2 months ago

You can add celebrity podcasters

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 56 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Shocker, Nicki Minaj was not the deep intellectual we thought she was.

[–] luciferofastora@feddit.org 20 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I like to assume the best of people. I like to think that some people are putting on a role of being dumb because it pays. I like to assume that people I don't know well enough are smarter than they appear to be. I do all this because being a cynic is depressing.

But sometimes, people go out of their way to dispel that charitable assumption.

I love it when minorities join conservative movements ... they're always the first to get thrown under the bus.

[–] FatVegan@leminal.space 29 points 2 months ago (1 children)

My dream was always to be called: "one of the good blacks" by nazis

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 5 points 2 months ago

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 5 points 2 months ago

or the camps, or to the chambers.

[–] ComradeRachel@lemmy.blahaj.zone 31 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It’s insane how rich people are so disconnected from reality and live in their own bubble ignoring all the horrible and evil things their fellow rich people do. At the end of the day is really is just a club of rich people with no real morals and the 99% are being tricked and lied to.

[–] zbyte64@awful.systems 4 points 2 months ago

Part of being wealthy is you don't know if someone loves you or is being nice because they want something from you. It's incredibly isolating at an emotional level.

[–] LemmyBruceLeeMarvin@lemmy.ml 27 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It's a big club, and you ain't in it

[–] cecilkorik@piefed.ca 6 points 2 months ago

When George Carlin died, I knew the future was doomed.

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 24 points 2 months ago

Hey, cool, you're fucking terrible.

[–] Tedesche@lemmy.world 23 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Minaj: Where’s the button I press to lose all my fans?

[–] LiveLM@lemmy.zip 9 points 2 months ago

Her fans are super unhinged, I doubt she's losing any over this

[–] myfunnyaccountname@lemmy.zip 22 points 2 months ago

She must be broke. Already know she isn’t relevant. But she must need money.

[–] jaschen306@sh.itjust.works 20 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I guess Cardi B wins by default.

[–] Professorozone@lemmy.world 15 points 2 months ago

Another idiot is born.

[–] Rhoeri@lemmy.world 14 points 2 months ago

Did she surprise them because they’re fucking idiots? Of course she’s one of them- she’s a fucking idiot.

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 13 points 2 months ago

Auntie Tom?

[–] bklyn@piefed.social 13 points 2 months ago

But, for liberals and the left, this is no surprise at all...

This administration is full of people with heart and soul, and they make me proud of them. Our vice president, he makes me ... well, I love both of them,” Minaj said. “Both of them have a very uncanny ability to be someone that you relate to.”

https://www.celebritynetworth.com/richest-celebrities/richest-rappers/nicki-minaj-net-worth/

Nicki Minaj is a Trinidadian-American rapper, model, actress, and R&B singer-songwriter who has a net worth of $150 million.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_Big_Beautiful_Bill_Act

The One Big Beautiful Bill Act (acronyms OB3; OBBBA; OBBB; BBB), or the Big Beautiful Bill (P.L. 119-21), is a U.S. federal statute passed by the 119th United States Congress containing tax and spending policies that form the core of President Donald Trump's second-term agenda.

Several think tanks, experts, and opponents criticized the bill over its regressive tax structure, described many of its policies as gimmicks, and argued the bill would create the largest upward transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich in American history, exacerbating inequality among the American population.

I imagine that everyone can find ground to bond over shared concerns.

[–] sturmblast@lemmy.world 10 points 2 months ago

More like shr got paid to promote Trump

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 9 points 2 months ago
