It doesn't even necessarily matter what she was or wasn't. It's kind of irrelevant.

She tried to wave a car by, like we've all done a million times, then two MASKED MEN got out of their UNMARKED TRUCK holding GUNS and one tried to REACH INTO HER VEHICLE TO OPEN THE DOOR.

The fuck would you do?

They weren't there for her. They had no reason to interact with her.

She could have had a rap sheet a mile long, doesn't matter.

[–] LoafedBurrito@lemmy.world 23 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah the nazi's on my local nextdoor keep calling her a "paid anti-ice demostrator" or that she is a paid antifa actress or some BS.

They refuse to use their eyes and ears and just stay in their fantasy land of unseasoned meals and fox news.

[–] Tyrq@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 3 hours ago

They are evil and stupid, there's not much else to say, they welcome violence because they can't do anything else that makes any difference with their miserable lives

[–] NutWrench@lemmy.ml 33 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

You know, if being opposed to masked government murderers stalking your neighborhood makes you an "activist" then we need to ask some serious questions about the state of "journalism" these days.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 4 points 4 hours ago

Journalism? In America?

Nah, dawg.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 8 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

School? you mean INSTITUTION OF WOKE INDOCTRINATION.

[–] FatVegan@leminal.space 1 points 1 hour ago

To be fair, the chances of getting shot in the school was also pretty high

[–] ameancow@lemmy.world 17 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

If ya'll are hoping "this is it" and that we're going to see any kind of justice, I'm sorry to tell you that this will also blow over after you read and hear some of the most vile, lying bullshit you can imagine.

I mean, unless everyone actually does something, but half of this country is still to scared to piss off the other half.

[–] sturmblast@lemmy.world 3 points 3 hours ago

I'm really tired of this attitude.

[–] 4grams@awful.systems 53 points 9 hours ago (4 children)

I was out with some casual friends last night, the topic of the shooting came up. I was sickened listening to them talking about how she was at fault for putting herself in harms way, how she was asking for it by trying to run down law enforcement who are "just doing their job."

We're completely fucked, most of the public just laps up whatever bullshit they are fed and do not spend one second critically thinking about anything. They just accept that 2000 masked and armed federal agents decending on our neighborhoods and shooting people in the fucking face is a normal thing and they save their anger for the people they are crushing under their boots.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 7 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Your dipshit casual friends, whom you need to dump immediately, clearly haven't watched the entire video, or are entirely comfortable blatantly lying about it.

The video is clear. She starts to pull out, realizes there's oncoming traffic, then waves at them to pass, then two masked men exit the unmarked pickup truck brandishing weapons and one tries to reach into her car to open the door. So she took off like anyone in their right mind would when two randos with guns try to pull you out of your car.

Your casual friends are bad people. Stop interacting with them.

[–] 4grams@awful.systems 4 points 4 hours ago

again, these are co-workers, and this was the first indication I got from them about this sort of opinion. I'm not besties with these people, but do need to professionally interact with them.

The point is more that this is in idication of how typical americans feel these days. These are as 'normal' of people as I know; all my friends run in lefty circles and are well informed, so not typical american normies. I was just taken aback that otherwise normal, functional people could see things that way. I shouldn't be surprised, just the week prior I heard so many people accept that fucking bullshit daycare story without a moment's critical thought about it. It doesn't matter that the centers accused in the video have been exonerated, it doesn't matter that there has been ongoing investigations and prosecutions as a result. People hear something that triggers them and they just shut off their brain.

That's what we're against, I don't even think the assholes doing this are the biggest problem we have, I think the biggest issue is the apathaty and stupidity of the masses.

[–] liuther9@lemmy.world 7 points 5 hours ago (3 children)

Yeah I stopped being friends with such people. Lack of brain capacity is a big turn off

[–] 4grams@awful.systems 2 points 4 hours ago (2 children)

These are work friends, so can't get away from them. I am working on finding a new job though.

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 6 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Did you try to correct the lies they had been fed?

[–] 4grams@awful.systems 2 points 4 hours ago (1 children)
[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 4 points 3 hours ago

Even one changed mind is better than leaving the lies and bullshit unchallenged.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

You can, and should, stop talking to them. Especially outside of work. You should not be going out with people like this. They wish harm on others for no reason.

[–] 4grams@awful.systems 3 points 3 hours ago

The point isn't these specific "friends", the point is, these are what I would consider normal, average people. These are coworkers, some of who I know to be otherwise good and rational people. I honestly would not think that normal people would react with such deference to authority.

Of course this will inform every interaction I have with them from here, but again, the point is, these folks represent the person next to you in line at the grocery store, the person you wave through traffic at a stop sign, the person delivering your amazon packages.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

It's not just lack of brain capacity. Some of the nicest people I've ever met in my life were mentally handicapped.

These people are actively malicious. They want to hurt others.

[–] LoafedBurrito@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

Yeah, the only way to stay somewhat sane now is to block the MAGA people. They are exhausting with their propaganda and lies 24/7.

[–] Tyrq@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 hours ago

If those are your friends, I'm sorry for you, there's actual decent and smart people out there, don't give these goons your time, even if it makes you lonely, it's just enabling their shit if you go along with it

[–] man_wtfhappenedtoyou@lemmy.world 18 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

That's really disheartening to hear. We need to keep hammering home that this is not normal to all our friends And family. People are understandably scared, and not everyone is as plugged in to reality. Sometimes they accept the narrative out of fear, they want to believe that if they behave and follow the rules they won't be shot in the face as well.

The good news is that you can only ignore reality for so long before it comes stomping down your door. The bad news is at that point it might be too late for any of us.

I am choosing to remain hopeful that these people will not get away with this. This regime is incompetent, and there are many people pushing back against them everywhere.

[–] 4grams@awful.systems 13 points 8 hours ago (3 children)

I argued very forcefully against everythign they had to say; I even got an apology from one of them, but I don't think I ultimately changed any minds. It's just so much easier for people to believe that the victims are at fault, it lets them feel superior, safe, etc.

I have not brought any of this up with my kids, but my 5th grader came home in tears yesterday because he's afraid of ICE now. This is not ok. Our government is terrorizing it's citizens and most people seem to love the fear.

[–] paperazzi@lemmy.world 4 points 4 hours ago

Yes, the fear and anger is addictive. It's why reality TV shows are so popular, it's why outrageousness in the news headlines are par for the course. Americans are so very disconnected from real life and have been for a long time. Issues across the world barely register on the average American radar. It's become a deeply unhealthy culture and I don't know how your country is going to survive this.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

most people seem to love the fear.

No, only conservatives, who voted for this to happen to our country. And they represent about 30% of the populace.

Still WAY too high of a percentage of mentally ill people.

[–] 4grams@awful.systems 2 points 3 hours ago

I disagree, it's not just a conserviative problem; there's an authoritarian problem that straddles both sides. I think the left is less susceptible to it, but it's there. I know plenty of "lliberals" who accept things uncritically as well, and plenty who are perfectly happy submitting to any authority.

I have "liberal" relatives who argue to this day that it's all just politics, and that biden was worse because he forced masks.

Well hopefully you made them go home and think at least, instead of just reassuring themselves and moving on until the next tragedy happens.

I can't even think of what we should tell our kids. It's impossible to say it's going to be alright, and mean it right now. I'm sorry your fifth grader is so scared. Luckily my little girl is only 3 so she doesn't see anything yet. I'm going to protect her from that for as long as I can.

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 1 points 3 hours ago

This just keeps getting worse and worse. Governors need to start calling in their State's guard and protect the citizens from ICE. I'd like to see the gravy seal Nazis have to have off against real soldiers.

Who would have thought that giving a bunch of barely literate bigots guns, and telling them they can do anything they want without consequences, would lead to one of those power tripping bigots murdering somebody for absolutely no fucking reason?

This was totally unforeseeable.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 38 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

What kind of monster just drops her kid off at school like it's a normal day, and then goes out and just runs over good law enforcement officers who are just trying to keep us safe from people with accents and weird food?

[–] Poteau_Poutre@lemmy.world 10 points 8 hours ago
[–] cambodia@lemmy.world 82 points 11 hours ago (7 children)

Who cares if she was an activist. Nothing what happened that day merits an execution.

[–] 5too@lemmy.world 28 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

The administration is characterizing her as an activist and an agitator, in order to try to retroactively justify her killing.

This story is putting the lie to that statement.

According to the "expert" they had on Good Morning America, the ICE agent was "struck" by Good's vehicle, but it's actually only the second and third gunshots to this innocent woman's head that were not justified.

I hope you all have a high tolerance for rage-inducing injustice, because this is going to be one of those "Don't Look Up" moments where half the world is told to just LOOK AT THE FUCKING VIDEO and people will ignore you and form movements to NOT look at the video.

I have no perscription or advice how to deal with this. But I do know it's going to get a LOT worse before it starts to get better and we may not all see that day.

[–] LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago) (1 children)

Hopefully the only way it gets worse will be a bunch of people getting together to do things like this. Oh darn, apparently mods deleted it. But it was a logical comment that proposed a logical solution.

[–] ameancow@lemmy.world 3 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago) (1 children)

Fun Fact, if you hit the drop-down by the breadcrumbs under a username you can read a user's moderation history and see what they said that got removed 🤓

While morally I cannot agree with the take, I would LOVE to see people even halfway motivated to take their marches directly to the seats of power. There are only a couple dozen thousand ICE agents in the whole country, we outnumber them by MILLIONS and could literally drag them off the streets, pull off their gear and tie them up and like, stash them in our basements with a bike lock around the neck Breaking Bad style and stop the injustice tomorrow if we all unified. (We feed them sandwiches on plastic plates though, lesson learned.)

[–] LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world 3 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Mmm sandwiches you say? You're almost makin' me want to join ice 😋

[–] ameancow@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago

I will only feed my agent cheap ass bologna with too much mustard and a single, small wilted lettuce leaf.
