Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) called out one-time ally Donald Trump for abandoning the core promises behind his “Make America Great Again” movement.

“MAGA is, I think people are realizing, it was all a lie,” she told YouTube host Kim Iversen. “It was a big lie for the people.”

The Trump administration, she said, is all about serving “big, big donors,” including foreign countries and large corporations, with many funneling cash to Trump’s PACs and pet projects such as his White House ballroom to win favor.

So, MAGAs, if you're keeping score:

  • America First, no foreign entanglements. Yeah, not so much.

  • Lower prices on day one. Past Day 365, and everything is even higher than it was, and rising.

  • Release the Epstein Files. Still not happening.

  • Rounding up undocumented criminals, but they are grabbing up American citizens.

  • Paramilitary Death Squads roaming our streets, breaking out in spontaneous firing squads against American citizens.

So what are you still in for? The open corruption? The violence? The Pedophilia?

I'll bet it's the Pedophilia. If you're a pedophile, you're going to figure your best chance is with the PedoCons in charge.

[–] OhStopYellingAtMe@lemmy.world 6 points 5 days ago

It’s the racism. And assorted other bigotry.

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 15 points 5 days ago (1 children)

No shit bitch. We've only been saying for what, a decade now? 12 years?

[–] how_we_burned@lemmy.zip 7 points 5 days ago

it feels so much longer. Every day, even when he wasn't the president was a never ending shit show of what is Trump saying now

clusterfuck

[–] anon_8675309@lemmy.world 23 points 6 days ago (1 children)

MTG is not our friend. But she can definitely be useful.

[–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 55 points 6 days ago (1 children)

“People watching Fox News, every day, 24/7 with their volume turned all the way up in their living room and it’s so loud that you can’t hear anything else? Those are the baby boomers and God bless them, those are my parents’ generation. I love so many of the baby boomers, but they are the most brainwashed generation because they eat that crap, like, they just eat it up all day long. They’re spoon-fed the propaganda on TV.”

Damn, MTG over here spitting facts. She did lean into that propaganda hard, so can't really give get a pass. But still good to see her speaking some truth.

[–] MasterNerd@lemmy.zip 27 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Given how many bullshit conspiracy theories she's peddled over the years, she doesn't have much ground to stand on

[–] n1ck_n4m3@lemmy.world 30 points 6 days ago

No, but I'd still rather she be peddling the truth now than never. She doesn't get a pass and I don't forgive her, but I welcome anyone who wants to stop preaching bullshit, no matter how heinous the shit they used to say was.

[–] InputZero@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago

It's like when your brother finally gives up drugs. You don't forgive or forget all the terrible stuff that they've done, but you welcome the person you knew before the drugs back. At least what's left of them. MTG doesn't deserve forgiveness but she deserves respect for admitting that she was wrong and walked back. It wasn't her idea to do any of this and I'm sure if things went differently she'd still be by his side but an ally is better than an enemy.

[–] SickofReddit@lemmy.world 19 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Jesus Christ Marjorie that took a really long time for you to clue in when everybody else knew the whole time.

[–] smeenz@lemmy.nz 5 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

*everybody except the 25% of Americams who still think that Trump hasn't gone far enough, and won't be happy until they see army tanks on the streets blowing up Jesus's house.

[–] W3dd1e@lemmy.zip 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Yeah she’s really annoying but if she can swayed in the MAGA bs then I’m hopeful that other normal citizens can too

[–] SickofReddit@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

I do appreciate her public turnaround on this. I have a feeling most Republicans think the worst thing in the world is and I Told You So from a Democrat and will do anything to avoid it.

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 21 points 6 days ago (2 children)

It's gonna take only months for news outlets like the NYTimes and the rest to rehabilitate her reputation and make her a hero like Liz Cheney. Fuck them all. She is a screaming baboon. She's a racist conspiracist who believed in Qanon. She harassed a survivor of a school shooting on video. She thought (thinks) Jewish space lasers are a thing. C'mon, she's a fucking piece of shit.

She's crazy and stupid (and stupid and crazy). Getting power and finding out her hero is a piece of shit doesn't make her a good person. Don't give her any respect.

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 7 points 6 days ago

Responding to my own comment, Liz Cheney is not a hero. I'm only saying that Lib publications treated her like one.

[–] RedAggroBest@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

No shit, but a very public turnaround from a very big face in their movement is a very good means to wake up some useful idiots in this country.

Believe it or not, you can't tell everyone you dislike to fuck off and expect enough people to work with you to have a functioning free society. Forgiveness is a virtue.

[–] cheffrey@lemmy.zip 18 points 6 days ago (2 children)

My coworker follows her and Candace Owens. Coworker used to preach Doge and MAGA. Doesn’t so much anymore.

Granted, coworker still doesn’t vaccinate her kid. But better is good.

Happy MTG isn’t maga anymore.

[–] wakko@lemmy.world 8 points 6 days ago (1 children)

You ever ask her why she's suddenly not as interested in satanic pedo sex cults run by elites now that she knows she helped get one elected as President?

[–] smeenz@lemmy.nz 4 points 5 days ago

I legitimately think Candace Owens is suffering from some sort of mental illness. I just can't accept that someone with a normal functioning brain can be that stupid, evil, and delusional.

[–] king_comrade@lemmy.world 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)

If MTG can change, then we all can.

[–] Smoogs@lemmy.world 0 points 4 days ago (1 children)

She flipped sides. But she can still flip out like no one’s business cuz she has paper thin skin. Just going against trump doesnt mean therapy isn’t still required in a persons life.

[–] king_comrade@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Sometimes it's just worth celebrating a win, no matter how small.

[–] Smoogs@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Sure. Just don't get too cozy and drop guard. She's not the ally you think she is.

[–] king_comrade@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Comrade, I'm an anarcho-commie. I'll never be friends/allies with MTG. I'm simply enjoying her not being an active enemy.

[–] Smoogs@lemmy.world 0 points 4 days ago (1 children)

No kidding. point still stands. Find better arguments to have.

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 18 points 6 days ago (1 children)

If she actually regretted any of it, she could've retained her seat and voted against MAGA.

Methinks this is much about attention as anything she did that was pro-MAGA.

[–] cogman@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago

It's all to move for another seat. She's politically savvy. She'll run for Gov or president or to be a VP pick. Building distance from today's MAGA is just a calculated move to make her look more moderate.

[–] Bonesince1997@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (3 children)

Fuck you people and your low standards for making this person your ally simply because she is saying things now (that she probably doesn't even believe in) you like. Go ahead, stand with MTG.

[–] Restaldt@lemmy.world 4 points 6 days ago

What do you mean campaigning with the Cheneys was a terrible idea?

Think about the handful of conservative votes we theoretically could've flipped by doing that!

[–] ChunkMcHorkle@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Ally? That suggests both a specific intention and a longevity I can't imagine she's capable of.

I know I'm not. She's no Bernie Sanders, lol.

She's also still a racist, as per her regime-friendly reaction to Don Lemon's arrest. I find that intolerable.

[–] thlibos@thelemmy.club 1 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

That's right! Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the Greene! /s
