Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

This is my personal and subjective feelings on this and I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings but I also want to express myself.

Sorry if you're the creator of this but I just have to share how much I dislike the entire character archetype of this series. That whole twisted anime character trope is just insufferable and its random inclusion in these kinds of communities has always seemed especially strange. I can't be bothered to put my finger on why. But I remember it being so much worse on Reddit. Like people would just post crap just so there could be a thread of people posting horrified reaction images. But it's not horrifying. It's just irritating and not funny. I'm not saying I hate this in the joking faux horrified way everyone else is. I'm saying every time I see this character pop up it seems like gratuitous weird horny-baiting mentally disturbed crap. The spiral eyes and the little fang, ugh. Just can't stand it. Like what's the point of this character? To be incredibly annoying and unpleasant but it's le big tiddy anime girl so now it's le funnie epic joke? I just don't get it.

Yeah, I agree, though my problems usually come from the comics just not being funny and/or not making sense. Like this one, the bowl of food undercuts the whole joke. Is it her food that she's ruining to give the other girl? If so, why would she give her own lunch away, regardless of the keyboard debris? If not, where did it come from? It would make more sense if she said, "yeah I always keep some snacks nearby, hold out your hands," and then the last panel was her dumping the stuff into the other girl's open palms. It's nitpicky, but they're all like that with the punchline either in the wrong place, forced into it without proper setup, or completely non-existent. This applies to the majority of comics I see posted here unfortunately.

hurk

thrifting keyboards has gotten me very close to a full meal when flipping them over

[–] Dave@lemmy.nz 3 points 2 hours ago

One place I worked issued work from home kits, and asked you to please never ever ever return your keyboard and mouse, it's yours forever, keep it when you quit, because no one else will want it once it's been WFHed for a while.

Straight up I wear gloves when I open used electronics for the first time.

The amount of grody shit I've found makes my skin crawl!

[–] HugeNerd@lemmy.ca 4 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

I'm pretty robust, I don't gross out easily, the worst I saw was cockroaches coming out a boombox in a thrift store. I told the manager and marched out in double time.

[–] Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 5 hours ago (2 children)

NGL I don't know if I'd go back to that thrift store after that

But I've got a lot of thrift store options locally

[–] HugeNerd@lemmy.ca 2 points 59 minutes ago

Yeah that was unusual. Only that one time. I guess they got a donation from a gross person.

[–] PapaStevesy@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

Interesting, I really expected you to lie about that, thanks for being so open and honest
