no worries, actually not that interested in the movie. just thought it would be funny to have a movie downloaded from twitter - before its release date.

but i am sure there are many torrents already.

[–] melroy@kbin.melroy.org 9 points 1 month ago

There are indeed. If the studio is smart they should release the movie soon, so fans can just buy a ticket and watch it. Otherwise everybody is going to pirate it. Even the fans, since let's face it. October is still a long time to wait.

Oh I downloaded Zelda totk a week before it came out just so I could play it for 5 minutes on an emulator, so I totally get that. Still haven't finished botw...

[–] Akrenion@slrpnk.net 38 points 1 month ago

Oh no. Who would do such a thing? And where? Where can I avoid this film?

[–] cypherpunks@lemmy.ml 32 points 1 month ago (1 children)

twitter (via cloudflare) is serving HTTP 403 {"error_code":2,"error_response":"Dmcaed"}

Give that lank!

[–] Lodespawn@aussie.zone 18 points 1 month ago

Just? That happened like a week ago ..

[–] Alvaro@lemmy.blahaj.zone 14 points 1 month ago

This leak sucks for tge community, but so does the decision to keep it streaming only, and while I can't balme the artists for what they are feeling, I also can't blame the people who torrent it now, knowing full well that waiting for the "official" release to torrent it is a stupid virtue signal.

[–] TrippyHippy@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 1 month ago

someone put it up on i2p (postman tracker) if you start your download now, it might finish before October ;-)

[–] delgato@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It was alright but for a standalone movie the plot felt low stakes.

Tap for spoilerFinal fight scene was pretty epic and felt like a manga boss battle.

I felt it was meh. It looked great, but you nailed it saying it felt low stakes. And not enough Blind Bandit or Zuko, imho.

[–] atro_city@fedia.io 10 points 1 month ago (5 children)

Is this the real thing? (just curious, I won't actually download it - the first movie was complete garbage and I have no hopes for this one either)

[–] UntimedDiffusion@piefed.zip 16 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Which first movie are you talking about? The live action one from 15 years ago? If so this one has entirely nothing to do with it

And yes this is the real thing

There is no live-action in Ba Sing Se.

[–] MBech@feddit.dk 10 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

I "hear" it is exactly what the fanbase has wanted for 15 years

[–] atro_city@fedia.io 5 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Wait, really? It's not just some prequel stuff?

[–] mic_check_one_two@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Nope, it takes place with the main cast from The Last Airbender in their 20’s. So ~10 years after the end of The Last Airbender, and probably 25-30 years before the start of The Legend of Korra.

[–] LemmyEntertainYou@piefed.social 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I'd guess it's quite a bit more than 30 years before TLoK. Katara is probably around 80 in that with her children being in their 50s.

The timing is… Odd. We know that Aang died somewhere in his 30’s. Maybe in his 40’s. And Korra was born when he died. TLOK starts when she is 18. So yeah, TLA’s cast definitely looks way too old for the timing.

[–] MBech@feddit.dk 4 points 1 month ago

Nope, proper continuation of the story.

[–] mic_check_one_two@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Yes, it is real. The β€œfirst” movie was the live action version that was universally hated. It was an attempt to retell the first season to The Last Airbender, but it absolutely failed in that regard. This new movie has absolutely nothing to do with it.

This new one is a sort of bridge between the end of The Last Airbender and the start of The Legend of Korra. It’s with the main cast in their 20’s. So ~10 years after the end of ATLA, and probably 25-30 years before the start of TLOK.

The new movie is… Alright? The animation is gorgeous, and the fight choreography definitely feels more modern and fluid. It proves that The Last Airbender would have done really well in HD+widescreen, instead of the 4:3 SD that it originally aired in. The cast is more experienced in combat, and their teamwork is much more natural. My biggest complaint is the lack of substance. The big finale fight feels fun to watch, but there is very little substance because the individual characters simply haven’t had enough screen time. It would likely work better as an extended/director’s cut, because at only 90 minutes it feels a little too short for what they were trying to accomplish. Certain parts feel rushed, and I was left wondering where the rest of the movie was when it finished.

There’s also the whole β€œwe already basically know how it ends, because we know how TLOK starts” problem. Since it’s a tie-in between the two series, we already know which characters come out of it and which don’t. So the stakes never really felt particularly high.

[–] atro_city@fedia.io 2 points 1 month ago

It kind of is a prequel to The Legend Of Korra then.

Thanks for the summary. It's not worth the download for me.

[–] DoucheBagMcSwag@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Wait are you talking about the live action M. Knight movie?

This one is animated

[–] atro_city@fedia.io 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Oh shit. I must've watched some AI generated trailer or something. But if it's about Aang, it must be some prequel.

[–] DoucheBagMcSwag@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Actually I think it's some type of sequel

It's a real movie yes. I watched it.

[–] RedWizard@hexbear.net 9 points 1 month ago

Its already up on your favorite Usenet.

[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

What, again?

[–] CloutAtlas@hexbear.net 5 points 1 month ago (5 children)

Is it worth the watch or nah?

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It doesn't matter, download it anyway, just so the enormous numbers will freak out the Corporation.

I hear it is.

[–] melroy@kbin.melroy.org 3 points 1 month ago

Yes I think it was OK. It's not as good as the series of course. But it's not bad either for a movie.

It also has its humor luckily across the movie.

Is it the full release-quality production?

[–] TheMinions@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I haven’t seen the full thing, but I have seen folks mention that not all the effects have been cleaned up in all scenes. Seems like it just needed some final touch ups, not like the Wolverine Origins movie a few years back where whole scenes were missing vFX.

[–] Auli@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

How is that a thing for animated movies.

[–] rainwall@piefed.social 9 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

They mix cell animation and computer animation in most animated movies. It was really apparent in the 2000s when they started, but is much better now, although still visible.

I think a lot of the vehicle scences in legend of korra are good examples of the "rough" animated cgi era if you want to spot the difference.

[–] melroy@kbin.melroy.org 2 points 1 month ago

I couldn't find anything missing or off. Maybe that's just me.
