Flippant Anarchism. A lighter take on social criticism with the aim of agitation.

Post humorous takes on capitalism and the states which prop it up. Memes, shitposting, screenshots of humorous good takes, discussions making fun of some reactionary online, it all works.

This community is anarchist-flavored. Reactionary takes won't be tolerated.

Don't take yourselves too seriously. Serious posts go to !anarchism@lemmy.dbzer0.com

Rules

  1. If you post images with text, endeavour to provide the alt-text

  2. If the image is a crosspost from an OP, Provide the source.

  3. Absolutely no right-wing jokes. This includes "Anarcho"-Capitalist concepts.

  4. Absolutely no redfash jokes. This includes anything that props up the capitalist ruling classes pretending to be communists.

  5. No bigotry whatsoever. See instance rules.

  6. This is an anarchist comm. You don't have to be an anarchist to post, but you should at least understand what anarchism actually is. We're not here to educate you.

  7. No shaming people for being anti-electoralism. This should be obvious from the above point but apparently we need to make it obvious to the turbolibs who can't control themselves. You have the rest of lemmy to moralize.

Imagine if a pump truck, ladder truck, fire Marshal, and 5 vollenteers all showed up to your burning house, and then did nothing, allowing the fire to spread to surrounding structures and landscape. You sue the fire department, and the judge said that the fire department has no requirement to actually put a structure fire out even if they are present and able.

The fire department proceeds to harass you by smashing your car windows or pushing your car with one of the engines.

This post isn't about a shitty fire department.

The cop may enter the burning building just to shoot the dog.

[–] scutiger@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Why would he do that when he can just wait for the firefighter to pull the dog out of the burning building before shooting it?

[–] technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 day ago

... before shooting the dog and the firefighter...

[–] Soapbox@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 day ago

Kristi Noem has entered the burning building.

[–] muusemuuse@sh.itjust.works 15 points 2 days ago (2 children)

There’s actually a lot of MAGA in your typical fire department :/

[–] oatscoop@midwest.social 8 points 2 days ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

I am a firefighter and you're not wrong. The shit I hear some of these assholes say is sickening.

On the other hand the nature of the job doesn't give near as much of an avenue to act on fucked up beliefs. The culture won't tolerate that behavior on scene either. There's also a hell of a lot more accountability: you will be fired, possibly criminally charged, sued, and/or ostracized.

I.e. even if a firefighter is a piece of shit they need to at least act like a decent human being when interacting with the public.

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I wonder how long that'll last. Also, if it stays around, I wonder if there's something society can learn from that structure and apply to other parts of society. I wonder if there's any way to improve it. And I wonder why it's as you say, in the first place.

[–] ThePyroPython@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Hopefully before maga picks up a history book and learns about the private fire services that used to exist before.

[–] scutiger@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

You're not wrong, but I give a bit of leeway to people who are willing to put themselves in danger to help others. Not too much though.

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

meanwhile 98% of firefighters drive the equivalent of a Dodge Ram without need

sure they'll put themselves in danger... in certain conditions, and for money. ask them to respect cyclists or drive a smaller vehicle so they don't run over kids, and nope that's too much to ask, they have golf clubs to fit in there

[–] scutiger@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Roughly two thirds of all firefighters are volunteers. They're not paid to do the job.

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago

volunteer firefighters around here are paid

[–] Eternal192@anarchist.nexus 87 points 3 days ago (4 children)

Didn't a cop arrest a firefighter because he wouldn't move his truck while trying to save someone's life?

[–] mushroommunk@lemmy.today 86 points 3 days ago (1 children)

And ICE detained that group of firefighters tackling a burning wildfire a month or two ago.

Pigs can't accept being upstaged

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Tackling it?

Throwing yourself bodily at flames doesn't sound like a very efficient method of fire extinguishing IMO 🤔

[–] couldhavebeenyou@lemmy.zip 16 points 3 days ago

That's why they have the asbestos suits

[–] fartographer@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (2 children)

It is if you use a headlock

Someone understands the fire triangle!

[–] Rcklsabndn@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Fighting a category 3 wild fire is one of the rare times both Rabbit Punches and Full Nelsons are legally sanctioned.

[–] fartographer@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

I legitimately doubled over laughing

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago

oh yea, how bout this, they murdered a mentally ill people because they dint want to "Deal with the paperwork".

[–] its_kim_love@lemmy.blahaj.zone 24 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

That happens way more often than we're told. The only thing rare about it is detention going all the way to formal charges.

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 32 points 3 days ago (2 children)

The bright side, it also happens the other way around. I've seen video of a firetruck driving through a cop car because they wouldn't move out of the way during an emergency. And the police dept couldn't do a damn thing about it. Karma in little pieces here and there.

[–] flandish@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

in most areas - at a fire like that we outrank them. i’ve yelled at a few who park like shitheads, and tell them they’re fucked because now i have 5” hose charged laying over the ground and they couldn’t drive their car away if they wanted to. They embarrass easy with their weak egos.

[–] its_kim_love@lemmy.blahaj.zone 16 points 2 days ago

The rarer cousin of FUCKYOUIMABUS.

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 11 points 2 days ago

I’ve seen firefights tell off cops who are in the way. Including one parked in front of a hydrant, a superior hot real upset at that one.

[–] BeardededSquidward@lemmy.blahaj.zone 66 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (3 children)

Not all firefighters are based, but all cops are bastards.

[–] Stern@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago (1 children)

NWA never made "Fuck the Fire Department"

Ever seen an undercover firefighter? An unmarked fire truck? No? Tells you their priorities.

an acorn falls

[–] FudgyMcTubbs@lemmy.world 42 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I've met a lot of firefighters who act like cops. One of them lived in my apartment building and his girlfriend routinely had a black eye.

Ive also met good ones. But more often, theyre entitled dickheads just like the cops.

[–] nomy@lemmy.zip 13 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I worked in a field related to Fire/LE for awhile and there was some movement between depts. Even more common were family connections though. Everyones cousin/brother/grandpa was also a cop/firefighter.

You couldn't talk shit about anyone without checking their last name.

[–] SwifferWetjet@thelemmy.club 44 points 3 days ago (4 children)

Ain't a song made out there called "Fuck The Fire Department."

Or "Fuck the EMS" either while we're at it.

I wonder why?

[–] Deceptichum@quokk.au 29 points 3 days ago (1 children)

There should be! I’d fuck the fire department.

[–] absGeekNZ@lemmy.nz 18 points 3 days ago

Very different vibe in those two songs.

you're probably wrong, lots of people want to fuck firmen

Am firefighter. Can confirm. Once saved a woman and handed her off to a cop who happened to be at the doorstep and .. he got a medal. 😂

Doggos need help getting out. Cats though? They usually just find a way.

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] flandish@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

[–] Starduster75@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Nobody ever wrote a song called "Fuck the Fire Department"
