Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

I'd prefer to be a fishlicker than a fishfighter

[–] fraksken@infosec.pub 3 points 1 day ago

I get it, but not nice to fetish shame ... Not all bootlickers are pigs

[–] NeatNit@discuss.tchncs.de 87 points 2 days ago

Policeman = Domestic abuser by statistics.

I was just trying to follow their current pattern.

i know it's a meme, but "man" originally meant something like -person (though that was like 1,000 years ago).

that said, how about these

firefighter
mailhander
fisher
bootlicker
spokesperson
garbager

[–] Zetta@mander.xyz 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

In the book series the expanse, which takes place a couple hundred years in the future, terms like sir are gender neutral. Women in charge are often referred to as sir. I think that's what'll happen irl, hopefully. I use guys as a gender neutral term and always have, and I will not stop!

[–] GoTeamBoobies@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Heeeeeey you guys!

[–] orenj@leminal.space 6 points 1 day ago

Hnmm hold on hear me out. Garbagier

[–] aldhissla@piefed.world 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

+1 for garbager. Garbaging is hard.

[–] pelya@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago (2 children)

garbager

That would be you. The person emptying your trash bin should be called degarbager.

[–] birdwing@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 day ago

Or how about 'trasher'

[–] SkaveRat@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] pelya@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

garbagee

That's a part of garbage. A person belonging to a local trash dump. I know several such people.

[–] hildegarde@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 day ago

Bring it back. Call them wermen from now on.

[–] MeowerMisfit817@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

We are even better: Humanfighters!

[–] GraniteM@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago

Boxer: Fighterfighter

Bouncer: Fightfighter

Teddy Bear: Frightfighter

I always find it extra funny when some communist (or themed account) calls police bootlicker.

Like, not implying the police not being bootlickers in most countries here, but of the countries where authoritarians are / were good at licking boots communist' ones sure as hell are prominent in the top 10.

[–] lugal@sopuli.xyz 25 points 2 days ago (1 children)

communist (or themed account)

What do you mean by this? There are many accounts here on Lemmy who defend authoritarian countries but scrolling through OPs posts, I don't see any that would fit the description.

Communist is a word that can mean anything at this point so please be a little more precise and maybe backup your argument.

[–] reseller_pledge609@lemmy.dbzer0.com 20 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They meant the OOP account in the screenshot (8 Bit Communism).

[–] lugal@sopuli.xyz 9 points 2 days ago

Ok, that makes more sense. The hammer and sickle is a clear indicator. Thanks, now I get it.

[–] Grail@multiverse.soulism.net 10 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

What do you mean. We had communism for 60,000 years here in Australia and we didn't need cops at all until the white people came and started doing slavery. The cops were for catching slaves.

[–] Natanox@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 1 day ago (3 children)

We had communism for 60,000 years here in Australia

Lol, that's a new one. Surely you have extraordinary proof for that absolutely wild claim. :D

its because america spent years to confuse socialist/democratic/leftist... with the overarching evil and ominous communist (red scare)

so even the "left" thinking people confuse it

[–] Grail@multiverse.soulism.net 6 points 2 days ago

Isn't communism a classless, stateless, moneyless gift economy?

And wasn't the USSR the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics? As in, socialism (so-called), not communism?

There is no country authoritanism trend doesn't touch. Soviets or Cuba are not the only models of communism. Far from it

I believe Ryan North of Dinosaur Comics first made this joke, in 2013:

It has always stuck with me since.

I mentally read all of these like I was the announcer from Super Smash Bros

Seamstress - Seamfighter

[–] Zamboni_Driver@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

How are police the bootlickers? Police are the bootwear-ers. They lick their own boots?

Those who support the fascist actions of the police are the bootlickers..

[–] SuperNovaStar@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They lick the oligarchs' boots by insisting we lick their boots. It's bootlicking all the way up.

[–] Zamboni_Driver@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The oligarchs wear loafers and boat shoes.
