I started a sleeve dedicated to music. So far it's just a Staff with a Quarter Note, Whole Note, Quarter rest, and a triplet made of two eighth notes and a quarter note rotated -90°. It spells out LOVE. It's on my wrist.

Once I have some more money I will have the staff continue with as many bars as I can wind around my arm of the vocal sheet music of "O Death Where is Thy Sting?"

Then I will have all the instruments I can play added in the blank areas.

Then I'll work on my Space Sleeve.

My girlfriend has a lot of tattoos. I always get asked "Do you have any?". No I don't.

I've been thinking of getting a little calf (cow) tattoo on my calf (leg) so I can say "Yeah I have a little calf tattoo"

My grandmother loved cows, my grandfather loved ice cream. My other grandmother is from Finland, my other grandfather is from Mexico. So it would be a calf eating ice cream made from reindeer milk wearing a sombrero. Then it would represent all my grandparents.

Any more ideas to add would be welcomed. My girlfriend's favorite flower is a peony so I was also going to put that in there to help set the scene around it with some grass.

Something dumb and stupid probably lmao. So far I have:

  • A bandaid
  • A bass clef
  • The name of one of my favourite bands
  • An open safety pin
  • A capybara
  • "it" underneath my knee (in my language it's the same as the "Dis"knee and "that"Knee joke except I ain't have a corporate bs tattoo on me)

I have an idea for the next one but my needles and ink have expired so I'm gonna have to wait till I have enough money to buy them fresh. It's something spongebob related tho

[–] Evil_Incarnate@sopuli.xyz 2 points 3 hours ago

First tattoo. My dog, difficult because he's a Tibetan Terrier with lots of hair and I believe that's hard to draw, but I'll get it one day.

[–] highrfrequenc@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

I have wanted a larger piece for a while, an astronaut to memorialize my brother. There's an artist up the street from us that has a really interesting style but he's always booked. In the city there's an American traditional place that my wife and I have been to multiple times. I think I'll just wander in one day when I have nothing else to do lol

[–] WindyRebel@lemmy.world 4 points 7 hours ago

My first and only tattoo is Captain America’s shield with a ribbon flowing around it that says, “I’m with you ‘til the end of the line” on my right bicep.

I am a huge Cap fan and what he stands for (e.g., the Dream, people’s rights such as minorities and lgbtq, fighting gov corruption including the US). My son was also superhero obsessed as a kid and so the quote is something said in the movies between Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes (best friends) and it’s sort of my mantra and promise to my family along with the shared superhero enjoyment with my son.

Another I thought about was for my left bicep and the Mythosaur skull with Aurebesh writing that says “This is the way” with it split between top and bottom and curved around the skull.

If I could think of a really cool D&D one, I might do that as a DM and player.

A star trek communicator badge. Still thorn between tng and coffee trek.

If I ever get a tattoo it needs to be physics or math related but I have no clue how it's possible to not be terribly cringe. Maybe a clever geometric argument/proof of something important in physics/math.

[–] anarchy79@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago) (1 children)

Yeah the cringe factor on that one is pretty high unless you come up with something unique.

The Maxwell field equations stand on their own in their beauty I think, but you kind of have to have some tangential relation for it not to just be ugh.

Or maybe nah that is cringe.

A good anti cringe factor is humor. If you can find something that's both meaningful and funny then that always works.

[–] highrfrequenc@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

58008 And you tell people they can turn you upside down

Joke aside, I knew a guy who had some version of Binet formula tattooed on his shoulder. I thought it was clever and has an interesting history, and if people ask you can talk about Fibonacci and golden mean and art and the renaissance period and etc

[–] dingus@lemmy.world 5 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago) (1 children)

Do you know the concept of kintsugi? It's a Japanese concept where when a dish breaks, you don't glue it back together with super glue. You glue it back together with gold. The dish is reformed, but its flaws are also on display as a thing of beauty.

Anyway, I know that gold is not necessarily something that would be conveyed well or stay that way in a tattoo.

But I am wanting a kintsugi pot with a bonsai tree growing out of it. The only color will be in the cracks or the pot. The rest I want in black and gray. I'm wanting it on my thigh.

Problem is I have been putting off getting more tattoos for the summer because you can't swim for like 3 weeks ish after getting one. But I'm a very impatient person!!

[–] highrfrequenc@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

What a beautiful concept. This post made me laugh too because bonsai require quite a lot of patience

[–] dingus@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

Lmao I didn't think of that. To be fair this is the longest I have gone without getting a new tattoo since starting to get some in October lol

[–] compostgoblin@piefed.blahaj.zone 5 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

First one was a simple tree. I like trees.

Next one is going to be a possum dressed as a medieval knight with a lance riding on a snail.

[–] dingus@lemmy.world 3 points 11 hours ago (1 children)
[–] compostgoblin@piefed.blahaj.zone 2 points 11 hours ago

Thanks! I’m really excited for it. I’m going to have it done by an artist I’ve wanted to tattoo me for a long time

[–] buttmasterflex@piefed.social 3 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

I have a 4cm long scar on my forearm. I want to have Asmodeus from Redwall wrapped around my forearm with Matthias beheading him with Martin the Warrior's sword. The scar will be incorporated as the line of the sword strike.

[–] tumbleweed05@sh.itjust.works 2 points 12 hours ago

right arm goals: pixelated Charizard and Kirby and a minimalist solar system in color (blue Earth, Red Mars, etc).

[–] Postmortal_Pop@lemmy.world 3 points 13 hours ago

I have plans for a piece on my fore arm of a stylized 3 headed rat. There will be a fancy crown hovering over the arch of its back in blacklight ink so in the right setting it glows.

The Ratking is my favorite mythological creature, in myth they keep and deal in secrets as their rats work as spies. My favorite part though, is that the mythical Ratking is created the same way as the normal one, rats getting stuck together. It's that mythical from the mundane that I love so much.

[–] baggachipz@sh.itjust.works 4 points 15 hours ago

I have no intention of getting a tattoo, but will probably have a number tattooed on my forearm when I get hauled away to the Woke Detention Camp.

[–] SharkWeek@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

One of my upper arms has a beautiful photo realistic scene, that was done by my ex as a goodbye present ... it was done in one 12 hour session, but doesn't go around the arm as far as the ones I have on the other side do.

So, I'm going to ask an artist I trust to make a sort of picture frame for it, plus have something that wraps around all the way as a band, so it doesn't fall off :-)

After that ... I'm pretty well covered on my top half (neck, chest, top half of my back, both arms, hands) so either I'll get a tramp stamp or start on my legs a little bit. No rush.

[–] dingus@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

What's the story behind your ex gifting you a goodbye tattoo?

[–] SharkWeek@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

When I met her she already had a plan in motion to move to another city, to start a tattoo parlour of her own (since this area is already saturated with them).

I fell for her pretty hard - the first time we met I told her she could draw anything she wanted on that whole area ... she put it off the whole time we were together, until the day before she left.

It's a really beautiful tattoo. I still miss her a lot.

[–] dingus@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Aw that is incredibly lovely

[–] SharkWeek@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 hours ago

Yeah, I'm very lucky :-)

[–] Strider@lemmy.world 3 points 16 hours ago

It would be the Cheshire cat from Alice in wonderland. Guess why if you want, it could be very, amusing and most certainly be wrong.

[–] ThatGuy46475@lemmy.world 15 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Wile e coyote’s arm coming out of my butt holding a sign that says “help”

[–] dingus@lemmy.world 1 points 11 hours ago

Yes. Amazing.

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 5 points 20 hours ago (3 children)

Probably in winter. I get a tattoo or piercing almost every winter since it's the best time to heal

Next will be a pawprint of my now-deceased cat. She had a cool pattern of black and pink on one paw that I think would be a nice tattoo.

My goal is to have one memory of each of the important animals in my life tattooed somewhere. But tattoos are expensive, so it's an ongoing project.

[–] OriginEnergySux@lemmy.world 6 points 21 hours ago

I do my own (they suck on purpose & are NSFW) so i was thinking of doing more swear words down my leg or an area i can still cover up when in public

[–] XeroxCool@lemmy.world 5 points 20 hours ago

I've been fleshing out some naturalist motif of a skull on a pike wrapped in ivy growths. Or on a staff. Maybe with a snake, in homage to the Rod of Asclepius. Figure it's a good forearm piece.

Or a bird. It always comes back to birds. There's just a bird for every feeling. A peregrine in a dive, a phoenix taking its throne, a blackbird living life, a raven brooding, an owl observing, a hawk soaring, a seagull eating French fries, a vulture scavenging, a hummingbird hovering, a parrot shouldered, so many options.

I do not have any tattoos yet, but if I start, my first one will be the text "Don't panic" in big friendly letters. Probably somewhere on my lower arm, for me to read if necessary.

[–] dingus@lemmy.world 1 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

I got a musical rest symbol on my wrist to try to remind me to stop and take a breath too! Problem is I never really ended up mentally practicing with it lol. I like the idea tho.

[–] kubok@fedia.io 3 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

In my case, it is a reference to the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Hence the big friendly letters.

[–] DrSleepless@lemmy.world 1 points 12 minutes ago

I keep hoping they’ll invent a device that’s like the babel fish

[–] Nemo@slrpnk.net 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's the mark of one of the secret societies I'm in. For obvious reasons, I can't say more.

Does yours also insist on using disappearing ink? I get that we have to be covert, but I have to get mine redone every week or so and it just seems impractical.

Fortunately my handler is posing as a tattoo shop owner, so I get a discount.

[–] Zwuzelmaus@feddit.org 4 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Same as the last one - this time on the other side

[–] DrSleepless@lemmy.world 1 points 10 minutes ago

Oh so a large picture of Ewan McGregor saying Hello There on your left butt cheek then?

[–] Kinokoloko@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 20 hours ago

I've always wanted something Boards of Canada related. But I can't commit myself. I have thought about it since I was 18, and I'm 36 now. That's half my life ago. Maybe I'll be able to convince myself I really want it soon.

[–] Rumo161@feddit.org 2 points 18 hours ago

Neotradstyle Red Rooster hanging from their feet on a rope on my inner left arm

[–] toomanypancakes@crazypeople.online 7 points 1 day ago (2 children)

My goal is poisonous plants, I wanna start with belladonna on my shoulder, but later I also wanna get some oleander, and I haven't decided what else yet for the other limbs. It's expensive though, so I haven't gotten any tattoos yet. Soon, I have plans.

[–] SharkWeek@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 19 hours ago

As someone with a lot of tattoos, I'd recommend getting a small simple one in a location that's usually covered by clothes for your first one ... some people just don't take to the experience for whatever reason or find that they don't enjoy the result like they thought - committing yourself to a whole project right from the start might not work out well.

[–] schmorpel@slrpnk.net 2 points 20 hours ago

Every plant is poisonous if you manage to eat enough.

But seriously I love the idea! If I ever get a tattoo (unlikely, but who knows) it would probably be something planty.

For a poisonous plant that's not commonly known I recommend Daphne gnidium. It was used to catch fish around here. Flowers have a hypnotic smell.

[–] arctanthrope@lemmy.world 3 points 21 hours ago

I've been thinking for almost two years about getting a severed hand holding a glowing gem; specifically, as told in The Silmarillion, Beren's hand holding the Silmaril Gil-Orestel, having been bitten off by Carcharoth, the great wolf that guarded the entrance to Morgoth's fortress Angband. later when the wolf was killed and his stomach cut open to retrieve the gem, his insides were burned and charred by the light of the Two Trees, that harmed any evil creature that touched it, but Beren's hand remained whole, still holding the Silmaril

the issue is it's a pretty specific custom design for my first one, and I don't seem to be able to find artists willing to even let clients see the design before sitting in the chair to have it done. I'm willing to pay for design services separately before booking an appointment to actually do it, but that doesn't seem to be how the industry operates

My first tattoo was done in a shack with a DIY tattoo kit ordered online.

Afterwards we had DIY beer made with a Mr. Beer kit ordered online.
