Mad Max: Furry R0w0d

[–] Grostleton@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 29 minutes ago

Muppet Interstellar.

"It's not possible... "

No, it's necessary.

[–] Rivermoonwolf@lemmy.world 2 points 42 minutes ago

Muppet Hudson Hawk. Everyone BUT the Hawk is a Muppet.

[–] turtlesareneat@piefed.ca 3 points 1 hour ago

Heck I just hope they do restart the Muppet Show. The soft pilot was pretty good, actually got me to watch a Sabrina Carpenter performance, and Seth Rogen's punchability is at an all-time low. Come on Disney. (I hate saying those words)

[–] hOrni@lemmy.world 3 points 2 hours ago

Muppet centipede? Human centimuppet?

[–] youCanCallMeDragon@lemmy.world 9 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Beauty and the Beast but the Beast is the only Real person and he turns into a muppet at the end

[–] Tingle@lemmy.world 3 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Is he a beast or a muppet?

[–] youCanCallMeDragon@lemmy.world 3 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

It’s like belle (miss piggy) saying “what a hideous beast” and it’s just a guy

[–] Tingle@lemmy.world 1 points 24 minutes ago

I was going for a play on the song am I a man or a muppet, but replacing man for beast, was maybe a bit obscure

[–] psycotica0@lemmy.ca 6 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

As soon as The Muppets and Lucasfilm were both owned by Disney, my friends and I spent a lot of time taking about how a Muppet Star Wars just makes sense.

Now, it's a bit of a crowded space, with Blue Harvest and Space Balls already doing a lot of parody work in this area, but I think there's still room. The only problem is that I think the normal formula would have Luke be played by a human and everyone else be Muppets, but Kermit feels like he'd be a great Luke. So you'd need one of the other key roles to be human to balance it out.

[–] yermaw@sh.itjust.works 5 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

I think we'd need a human Yoda too. Just an any guy.

[–] NotBillMurray@lemmy.world 6 points 3 hours ago

Danny DeVito would make a good yoda.

[–] theedqueen@lemmy.world 23 points 8 hours ago (2 children)

All I want is Muppet Princess Bride, but no one will make it

[–] Aneb@lemmy.world 21 points 7 hours ago

This actually sounds genius. Be the change you want to see in the world!

Are Muppets good or is this more of a nostalgia thing for people?

I've never seen Muppets. I don't remember it airing on our national TV when I was a child. It's not much of a thing in my social circles either.

[–] Bluewing@lemmy.world 3 points 3 hours ago

The Muppets are good. Very entertaining for all ages. But these remakes are nothing but a money grab. No new story line, a few rewrites, toss in a few jokes, get nostalgic movie goers to buy tickets and make a bunch of money.

The Muppets are more than good enough to deserve their own new stories and not just rehashed garbage.

[–] owenfromcanada@lemmy.ca 4 points 4 hours ago

Personally, I think they're good. Obviously it's subjective, but I think there's a good reason that they've withstood the test of time.

The brand of humor is timeless. The absurdity of a world where a pig and a frog can take on human roles without comment is just as funny now as it was 40 years ago. The overall style of humor is somewhat dry but still accessible.

It's not for everyone, but it's for a lot of people.

[–] i_love_FFT@jlai.lu 5 points 5 hours ago

I like the chaotic energy they bring on screen.

Also not officially Muppets shows, but look at Farscape and Labyrinth. Chef d'oeuvre!

[–] Aneb@lemmy.world 6 points 7 hours ago (2 children)

I rarely see the Muppets but they were a cultural cornerstone for the 90s-00s. My older sisters can name everyone while I can name Kermit, Miss Piggy, Bert and Ernie, and cookie monster (use to be my favorite Friendly's sundae). Wait is Elmo and yellow bird also muppets?

[–] FudgyMcTubbs@lemmy.world 4 points 5 hours ago (2 children)

Do we not separate Muppets muppets from Sesame Street muppets? The only Muppets muppets you mentioned were Kermit and Miss Piggy. Also the yellow bird from Sesame Street is Big Bird.

The Muppets muppets were more of an 80s thing, and then they spawned movies. Kermit, Miss Piggy, swedish chef, fozzie bear, animal and so on are Muppets muppets.

[–] owenfromcanada@lemmy.ca 4 points 4 hours ago

They're all one thing. Kermit used to show up on Sesame Street as a newscaster. And Big Bird shows up in the Muppet Movie from the 70s. Jim Henson and Frank Oz did both.

[–] mr_satan@lemmy.zip 1 points 4 hours ago

No clue, I know of Sesame Street only from occasional memes. I always thought it all one and the same, since it's all puppets.

[–] architectonas@lemmy.world 1 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Wait, does Sesame Street belong to the Muppets?

[–] owenfromcanada@lemmy.ca 5 points 4 hours ago

Yep, they're all Jim Henson. And they show up on each other's stuff--Kermit was occasionally a newscaster on Sesame Street, and Big Bird was in the original Muppet Movie from the 70s.

[–] PapaStevesy@lemmy.world 9 points 9 hours ago

What's wrong with Muppet remakes of Muppet movies? What if the Muppets puppeteered their own little Muppets? Muppetroyshka.

[–] TheRtRevKaiser@sh.itjust.works 69 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago)

I've said it before, and I'll say it again:

Face Off

[–] Murse@slrpnk.net 43 points 13 hours ago

They should do a remake of Groundhog Day. Make a bunch of fancy trailers with over the top cinematic effects. Whole 9.

Then play the original Groundhog Day, completely unedited.

[–] EditsHisComments@lemmy.world 12 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Plugging "The Muppets Christmas Carol" as the most accurate version of the book. Hands-down, the Muppets actually make some quality content.

It's the second-best version of A Christmas Carol, after the Blackadder version.

[–] PineRune@lemmy.world 42 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

The Lord of the Rings, but Gandalf is the only human actor and everyone else are Muppets.

[–] owenfromcanada@lemmy.ca 21 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

The inspiration for the chart was actually another thread about exactly this. Here's the roster I suggested:

  • Aragorn: Kermit
  • Arwen: Ms Piggy
  • Legolas: Janice
  • Gimli: Rowlf
  • Boromir: Sean Bean (human)
  • Gandalf: Dr Teeth
  • Frodo: Elijah Wood (human)
  • Sam: Fozzy
  • Merry: Rizzo
  • Pippin: Gonzo
  • Saruman: Sam Eagle
  • Ringwraiths: Statler and Waldorf
  • Bombadil: Swedish Chef

Another commenter noted that Janice would be too good as Galadriel to cast her as Legolas. Which is a very valid point.

[–] Hoimo@ani.social 4 points 7 hours ago (2 children)

Elijah Wood muppified, but he turns more and more human as the Ring corrupts him. Gollum is fully human, nude, slimy.

[–] owenfromcanada@lemmy.ca 3 points 4 hours ago

Nah, Gollum is played by Animal.

[–] PineRune@lemmy.world 8 points 8 hours ago

Swedish Chef as Tom Bombadil is perfect!

[–] xkbx@startrek.website 53 points 17 hours ago (7 children)

I wish they’d redo Blade (1996) but with the Muppets. I think it would be so much better. You could keep it kid-friendly by having the vampires turn into bats instead of ash, but the thought of Kermit saying “some motherfuckers always trying to ice-skate uphill” would be so funny.

For a moment I thought this was a gaming community for some unholy reason, and I immediately imagined a Skyrim remake with Muppets

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 5 points 7 hours ago

What is better - to be born not wanting cookie, or to overcome your cookie eating nature through great effort?
