Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

On one hand: penne is NOT a kind of noodle, so I shouldn't upvote.

On the other: c'mon, it's Maria.

I am a simple girl—I see a post by Maria, I upvote it.

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 5 hours ago

hmm you are right, penne are pasta.... buuuuuut also have you seen how noodly they look?

Those aren't noodles and you've completely enranged an entire nation

It's a mistranslation. Maria is German, and they call pasta Nudeln (The word Pasta exists too but Nudeln gets arguably misused to described pasta often)

Edit: German is my third language. Best tag @instantnudel@feddit.org − Feddit.org's Nudeln expert − to weigh in

[–] instantnudel@feddit.org 9 points 2 days ago

Nudeln 🗣️

Kannst nudeln machen warm, kannst nudeln machen kalt. Die Nudel ist ein wundervolles Gericht.

Come to Estonia, Spaghetti are called noodles and all types of pasta are called macaroni, half the population doesn't know what pasta means other than "paste" (which is also spelled "pasta" in Estonian)

[–] trem@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 2 days ago

When I switch the Wikipedia article for noodles to Italian, I get "pasta lunga": https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pasta_lunga

Which just means "long pasta". Is that the difference, that noodles are supposed to be long?

[–] PotatoesFall@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Thank you for this guide. Your attention and care for detail has not gone unnoticed!

Random question, are you a German speaker?

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

yeaaa I wanted to put extra care into stuff cuzzz I want the reader feel cared for.

Also yeye i know my german. i think thats kinda obvious in this post >v<

[–] PotatoesFall@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I feel cared for!

It's just the calling pasta noodles. German language calls it all Nudeln. I think the funniest is calling steam dumplings Dampfnudeln :D

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

oh, I thought u just looked at the images of products and went "ah yes, nutri-score". but fairrrr---

to me, all then noodles are noodly. thus they shall all be noodles.

[–] PotatoesFall@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Wait did you take the pictures of products in your own kitchen yourself? :O That's some serious commitment to the OC

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 day ago

oh whoooops i responded with the wrong context.

yes, i took images of the noodles and stuff and yea i put it together.

the idea originated cuz i wanted to make a recipe-like thing and just happened to be making noodles so... here we go.

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 day ago

i sat in my room, had some babybel and just took photos of it. cuz... why not. so now it's a post.

i'm surprised that peeps say this took "commitment" or effort even tho the total working-on-it time was still under an hour.

other posts took like two or three hours but apparently this one screams "i took this seriously" >v<

[–] cybervegan@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Who calls pasta "noodles"? Noodles are long and thin where I live (UK). Definitely not pasta - not even spaghetti. Definitely not Penne.

[–] nightlily@leminal.space 6 points 2 days ago

Germans. Everything is Nudeln.

[–] elutria@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 2 days ago

right? as a spanish speaker i know this is clearly called soup

yass!!! noodles ~ ~ ~

so very noodly wet and wobbly, one can eat them.

i'm happy you share my excitement about noodles.

[–] nullcat@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

what r ur favorite "something to put on noodles" things?

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

that pesto you see in the recipe! that is my current favorite.

it's spicy, it's creamy a bit, it's fun, it smells good, it makes my tummy happy.

what's your fav something to put on noodles?

[–] Foxfire@pawb.social 9 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I made the noodles with the 6 Monsters, as suggested for the American substitution in step 1; the energy I'm feeling is incredible!

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

nooooo sillyyyyyyyyy - u were supposed to use the can as a measuring device >o<

cuz a con of monster energy has exactly 0.5 liters, or 500 milliliters soooo- ye

that kitchen must smell like quite something tho after boiling monster energy...

[–] Foxfire@pawb.social 5 points 2 days ago

Technically the American monsters don't have 500ml, just to add some extra confusion to the mix lol. The cans are 16oz, which seems to be around 473ml. The rest of the world gets more Monster!

[–] Truscape@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 days ago

Almost as powerful as the powerade pasta.

[–] rockSlayer@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 2 days ago

step 8: eat the noodles from the plate

Happy noodles

Noodles are vore prey confirmed

[–] Leviathan@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

-Strain pasta

-Leave pasta in pot

-Put half of "something to put on pasta" in the pasta

-Coat pasta well

-Plate pasta, add more "something to put on pasta" on top.

-Drown everything in pecorino.

[–] kivihiili@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 days ago

pasta & strawberry jam 😋

i wish you a wonderful and tasteful day ~

oh yes of course, tysm :3

[–] exu@feditown.com 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

You don't really need to stir for 10 minutes

[–] fireweed@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

This. Stir once shortly after putting noodles in the pot, and once more a few minutes later for good measure, and the boil should provide enough subsequent movement to keep the noodles from sticking.

This is perfect timing for me — I’m browsing while the marinara I’m making from some of the tomatoes from my garden simmers, so I’ll be following this recipe in a couple hours. Thanks!

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

this "recipe" was just meant to be a veeery simple and silly one, meant to encourage peeps to cook who don't usually cook at all >v<

you don't appear to be one of those people but... sure! follow it if you like.

[–] CombatWombat@feddit.online 3 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

You caught me, I didn't need the recipe from a "knowing how to cook" standpoint, but I very much needed it from a "looking at a cute recipe" standpoint, and I appreciated the reminder that my kinda chaotic "tomatoes? spices?? simmering for many (???) minutes" marinara recipe is valid.

[–] RumorsOfLove@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Q: What if i try to pour the excess water down the drain and accidentally pour the noodles? A: if you cant get a pasta strainer, clamp the lid of the pot on tightly as you tip it. or just scrub your sink first

[–] finalarbiter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 days ago

There are also pots that have like a built in strainer where it's two nested pots and the inner one has a bunch of holes in it like a colander. Had one of those growing up and it was great for making big batches of noods.

[–] mokus@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 days ago

Noodles are a plot by Big Noodle to sell more noodle
