Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. πŸ˜‡ Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. 🏘️ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. 🧬 Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. πŸ“½οΈ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. πŸ“‹ Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      βœ… Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      ❌ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. πŸ“¬ Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 πŸ–) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 πŸ–) will be removed.
  7. πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      SΓ, por favor [Spanish/EspaΓ±ol]
  8. 🍿 Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists

The following artists are banned from the community.

  1. Jago
  2. Stonetoss
  3. GPrime85

It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.

Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

Frankenstein's Monster's Monster, Frankenstein

[–] QueenHawlSera@piefed.social 1 points 55 minutes ago

His name is Adam Frankenstein

[–] FluidBeef@quokk.au 7 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Did Frankenstein even have a doctorate?

[–] ZoteTheMighty@lemmy.zip 6 points 6 hours ago

Yes, and he was a real professor before he was backed to work on his monster.

[–] ladicius@lemmy.world 25 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Shortest fan fiction ever?

[–] AzuranAurora@piefed.ca 4 points 6 hours ago

Once upon a time, Frankenstein existed. The end.

[–] mushroommunk@lemmy.today 77 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

Soy latte for "Actually Frankenstein is his last name and you are his child so you are Frankenstein as well"

[–] Dojan@pawb.social 16 points 12 hours ago

It applies to dogs. I know someone whose dog is named Fidel. It means loyal. His surname happens to be Castro.

So on the vet papers he’s listed as Fidel Castro.

But people usually just call me Frankie

[–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 11 points 10 hours ago

It's Fronken-steen

[–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 2 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Don't ask Elon Musk why he wanted to go to the laboratory of Dr Frankenstein!

[–] SabinStargem@lemmy.today 2 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

Needs the dick of a better man, since his own is malfunctional.

[–] xylogx@lemmy.world 8 points 10 hours ago

Soy Latte? He really is a monster!

[–] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 45 points 14 hours ago

"Mister Frankenstein", he said as I gave him the change. "Doctor Frankenstein was my father."

[–] AI_toothbrush@lemmy.zip 9 points 10 hours ago

Thats so funny tho cause he would order a soy latte

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 45 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Iirc, some adaptations name him Adam, for the line β€œI ought to be thy Adam.”

[–] TheMinions@lemmy.dbzer0.com 38 points 14 hours ago

He is also considered Victor’s son in some adaptations. So Adam Frankenstein wouldn’t be off base either.

[–] ScrambledEggs@lazysoci.al 20 points 13 hours ago (4 children)

Frankenstein was the surname so, wouldn't they both be Frankenstein? In the sense that Victor, the doctor, created "the monster" would it not be feasible that they share the last name?

[–] athatet@lemmy.zip 7 points 9 hours ago (2 children)

Idk. I make stuff and none of it has my last name.

[–] LePoisson@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Lots of people make stuff that has their last name. I mean I probably wouldn't call someone's child stuff normally but names get given to other conscious beings you create. What's the difference between the monster or a child?

[–] athatet@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Well the main difference is the monster is sewn together from a bunch of dead people whereas a child is not that.

Not with that attitude!

[–] AceBonobo@lemmy.world 3 points 9 hours ago

Missed opportunity

[–] egrets@lemmy.world 8 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Sure, but since the monster was assembled from the cadavers of several people, it would be fitting if he carried their names too, so a septuple-barreled name is the obvious choice.

[–] Vandals_handle@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

Get nicknamed hyphen or hyphy for short.

[–] WhiskyTangoFoxtrot@lemmy.world 17 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Frankenstein and the creature hated each other. They wouldn't want to share a name.

[–] kolmaskommentoija@sopuli.xyz 25 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

I mean... A lot of people really hate their parents, but still share their last names.

Exactly, which is why my name is Jeff Fuckinalcoholicdad.

[–] hansolo@lemmy.today 7 points 11 hours ago

So Frankenstein Jr.?

"...and another for Frau BlΓΌcher."

You could say he's the monster, but the monster really was Dr Frankenstein.

They were both bad dudes, but only one went on a murderous revenge spree and killed children. I'd suggest that one was the real monster.

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 10 points 14 hours ago

So, Frankenstein's "Monster".

[–] ijustliketrains@lemmy.world 10 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

I find it interesting that the monster canonically speaks French.

[–] Nurse_Robot@lemmy.world 18 points 13 hours ago (3 children)
[–] Sibshops@feddit.cl 4 points 7 hours ago

Logical fallacy, just because all French people are monsters doesn't mean the opposite is true.
