Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

Sitting on the arm is the purest evil, you'll damage the chair!!!

[–] Bubs@lemmy.zip 15 points 1 week ago (1 children)

If a chair gets damaged from someone sitting on the arm, then it doesn't deserve to be a chair!!

sounds like lawful neutral talk

Sitting on the armrest cannot be considered good; you'll quickly break it that way. In fact, it's probably one of the most evil positions there

Chaotic Neutral :3

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 9 points 1 week ago

This is just proof you can't define an alignment by a simple grid of nine, and alignment can easily drift.

Does Chaotic Good, but straddling, count as chaotic neutral?

True Neutral. Armchairs are often the wrong size for me, so I just bring my legs up.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

None of the above

If no foot rest is available, I do something like this but leaning back a bit further with the feet either further apart or crossed

[–] ashenone@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 week ago

Chaotic neutral when I'm reading, neutral evil when I'm stoned watching something

[–] LaunchesKayaks@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Lawful neutral

I sit on the floor and lean back against the chair. Chaotic chaotic I guess.

[–] kersploosh@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 week ago

My partner: chaotic evil position but she's lying on the floor with her legs on the seat of the chair.

[–] SquishedFly@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 week ago

That just looks like ADHD + couch + family get together for me. I can see myself going all of them within 30 minutes

[–] lonefighter@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago

That's hilarious because chaotic neutral is my favorite alignment and I think that's the most comfortable way of sitting in an armchair. In my 30s and I still sit in every chair like that, and have taken some amazing naps draped over a chair in that position.

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago

Isn't the bottom row just being a teenager?

[–] Banana@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago

lawful neutral or neutral evil...yes I am bi.

[–] HuntressHimbo@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 week ago

I vacillate between Neutral Good, Lawful Neutral, and True Neutral depending on my current fidgeting needs

[–] arudesalad@piefed.ca 3 points 1 week ago

Lawful evil is great for thinking. It always makes me so happy when I am storytelling blood on the clocktower and all the players are sat like that!

[–] rumschlumpel@feddit.org 3 points 1 week ago

feeling chaotic evil today, but I don't have a chair that actually allows for sitting like this...

[–] Elting@piefed.social 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Ive sat in a chair more than half those ways in the last hour alone.

[–] cally@piefed.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 week ago

Either lawful neutral or true neutral

Neutral Evil. That tracks.

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 2 points 1 week ago

All except lawful evil.

[–] Ribbons@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 week ago

Lawful Neutral while drawing, Neutral Evil while gaming or just relaxing.

[–] npe@leminal.space 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

chaotic neutral, I have robust joints

edit: on second glance I think I'm between chaotic neutral and neutral evil

[–] OmegaMouse@pawb.social 2 points 1 week ago

If I'm playing a game: neutral good or lawful neutral

reading a book: chaotic neutral

[–] N0tTr0xy@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 week ago

true neutral good

I sit on the floor with my computer/phone on the chair.

[–] DrPop@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Lawful Nuetral, basically in this position.

[–] Neptr@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Feeling lawful evil today (and every day)
