Republican groups are trying to limit their losses. But few in the party believe they have a good shot at keeping control of Congress.

Some top congressional Republicans have privately concluded that it is likely impossible for them to keep control of the House of Representatives in the midterm elections, and they are now focused on limiting the scale of the defeat and salvaging the party’s Senate majority.

Five senior Republican lawmakers, all granted anonymity to speak candidly about their party’s dire position, told POLITICO the House had all but slipped away.

One senior House Republican said the GOP’s goal at this point was to “save as many Republican seats as we can.” The president, this person said, was not helping.

“President Trump has made this election all about himself,” the lawmaker said. “Now we have to survive that political storm.”

These lickspittle cowards could have done something for ten years now. They had the opportunity to prevent him from running again. They're complicit.

"The Party of Personal Responsibility" once again refuses to take any personal responsibility.

They personalize the upsides of their positions & policy while socializing the downsides.

They had the opportunity to prevent him from running again.

Literally all they had to do was have 16 or so of them say one word, "guilty," at either of his impeachments, and we never would have had to hear from Trump again as a candidate, and he'd probably also actually be serving time in prison for his felony convictions.

It still infuriates me. Sixteen words - just breaths and some vocal chord flexes - away from being on such a drastically better timeline, including for the republicans themselves. But they were too cowardly for even that.

They are not only cowards, many of them love his policies and the promise of deporting millions from the country, as a for instance.

Or jamming their Seven Mountain Mandate bullshit down all of their throats. It's so fucking weird how they would bitch about how liberals were doing that to them for merely having equal rights for gays, as a for instance.

When the reality is that they cannot wait to indoctrinate other people's children into their little book club in our public schools, for example. That they want to dictate what is taught at the university level. That they want to dictate how research grants are given out. All based on their personal proclivities.

It's probably racism and the promise of reversing the dwindling number of xtians and probably some cowardice on their parts that explains why donnie is not already in prison.

I have to share this video. It's Childish Gambino

https://youtu.be/VYOjWnS4cMY

The video goes hard. Sorta NSFW but not in a lewdy way

[–] orlyowl@piefed.ca 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Thanks for posting that. New to me, enjoyed it!

You should check out his show Atlanta.

[–] Rekorse@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago

Or community. Also his early albums are good too.

Dong Lover

I remember some interview where he was talking about setting up a social media account and realized Don Glover was probably the wrong thing to pick.

Can’t wait until we don’t have to hear Mike Johnson’s bullshit.

When he first became speaker I thought "man this guy almost makes them sound like they have a plan".

That feeling eroded as he couldn't keep up with Trump's incomprehensible message.

[–] curiousaur@reddthat.com 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Nate Silvers last update said the senate is up to a 74% chance of flipping now I think.

[–] MartianRecon@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That's pretty impressive actually.

What I'm worried about is the rampant fraud the GOP will enact.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

They are great at the rat-fucking.

[–] MartianRecon@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 week ago

They are great at cheating. Weather they're caught this time will remain to be seen. Personally I think the sheer number of people against him will thwart any ratfucking but we'll see.

The question is, what happens when it's found out that he cheated?

[–] SnarkoPolo@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Unless Dear Leader uses the Insurrection Act and shuts it all down. Hail the Fourth Reich.

[–] slickgoat@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

If I were them, I'd stop worrying about losing the House, it's gone. It's the freakin Senate that's the one tottering on the edge.
