Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

Very handy stuff. I use it to compliment the rope, like if I want to stabilize a wand in a particular place

[–] toynbee@lemmy.world 3 points 57 minutes ago (1 children)

What compliments do you like to offer the rope?

[–] Mistakes@sopuli.xyz 3 points 42 minutes ago

Ohhhh you. I almost started a creative writing assignment on praising an inanimate rope because of you

I have two rolls if anyone wants one

[–] Asfalttikyntaja@sopuli.xyz 5 points 5 hours ago (2 children)

It sure is difficult to do bdsm alone.

[–] Anarki_@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 3 hours ago

Self bondage is a thing 🙂

[–] glitch1985@lemmy.world 1 points 5 hours ago

Only with that attitude!

[–] Grail@multiverse.soulism.net 11 points 12 hours ago

Aha! I am a pervert and I was right!

[–] scttgard@lemmy.world 15 points 13 hours ago

Um, in the Medical field we just call it Coban? Get your freak on people!

[–] AcidBurn@retrofed.com 74 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

Which is funny, because IRL lots of people into BDSM call it vetenarian tape

I haven’t checked yet but this sounds like vet wrap or coban.

Edit: seems similar but vet wrap/coban isn’t glossy, more fabric-y.

Genuinely really good stuff to have in a first aid kit for stabilising. Also there's loads of different colours so if you do any sports it's good for providing a little extra support for things like wrists and ankles.

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 18 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

I just looked it up and hmm yea I can see how that would be exciting but also like it would have to be rather rigid.... u know? alsoalso softer.. restraints are probably much nicer I imagine. like not as rigid and maybe more fun to move in.

[–] LH0ezVT@sh.itjust.works 20 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Weeeell... not being able to (freely) move in it is kind of the point. And the nice thing with tape is, you can almost always use more.

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

hmm yea I can see that, but like - being able ti wiggle a lil... thats fun. I think. like - I want them to be like there, unable to go anywhere and do anything against what I do to them ~ ~ ~

but also I think its nice to let them wiggle, stretch out their arms when they wanna and pull against the roped when they wanna. but maybe thats just two very different kinds of restraints so... yeah maybe thats where I'm silly

[–] LH0ezVT@sh.itjust.works 5 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

I mean, we're all silly, in our own way.

In fairness, it is super hard to tie someone with zero wiggle room.

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 18 hours ago (2 children)

yeee and I think thats mmmh so wonderful! like yesss let them wiggle, let them move away just a bit, perhaps 30 cm or something, but then have the restraints catch them so then I can keep them there and mmmmhmhmhmhm point out how silly their escape maneuver was >v<

[–] LH0ezVT@sh.itjust.works 1 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Hear me out: rubber bands. The kind you use to tie down things to your bike, or exercise. Might need some creativity in sourcing / manufacturing, but that would tick all your boxes, right?

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

hmmm no i think just... general nice and soft ropes are where I'm at. maybe with a little give to Ehen they move, they get a bit of a satisfying bounce ~

mmmmaybe. like - these kinds of almost smooth scarf-like ropes kinda which dont feel much like restraints and more like... just something comfy.

[–] LH0ezVT@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 hours ago

Fair, there is no right or wrong. I certainly see the appeal, just not fully my cup of tea.

[–] Grail@multiverse.soulism.net 1 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

I think you're looking for a collar.

The other nice thing about a collar is you can pull your sub around by it and make them do things. You can yank down and force them to kneel

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 19 minutes ago (1 children)

oooh yes that sounds nice -- even if I'd prefer not to yank but to nicely pull them along <3

[–] Grail@multiverse.soulism.net 1 points 14 minutes ago

Well the important thing is pulling their face close to yours, but lower down, so you can gaze down at them and then kiss, pet, or slam into a wall as you please

[–] SeductiveTortoise@piefed.social 7 points 17 hours ago

Uh, it comes in nice colors! Neat!
