However, Trump has maintained approval for longer during his second term than his first

This is insane??!?!

[–] SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 83 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (7 children)

No, this is insane:

But, later the same day, the President gave his joint address to Congress, which was largely well received by Americans.

A poll by CNN showed that 69 percent of Americans had a positive reaction to the address, while a CBS News and YouGov poll showed 76 percent approved of it. It was therefore a day of mixed signals for the president, but the shift in Trump's approval ratings could suggest his honeymoon period in office is nearing its end.

Yes the lie and greivance filled address.

[–] osaerisxero@kbin.melroy.org 72 points 1 day ago (4 children)

Nobody I know watched it. It would not surprise me to learn this poll filtered on 'people who watched the address', which is likely only people who were largely going to agree with him. Given that, only 69% (nice) having a positive reaction is a fucking indictment.

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 38 points 23 hours ago

I usually stay informed on "what people in the seat of power actually say and do," but I can't even watch that fucker's stupid face or listen to his stupid voice anymore.

[–] Generica@lemmy.world 14 points 23 hours ago

This is a good point. I don't personally know anyone who watched it, as I am solidly in the anti-Trumpism camp. It's already too stressful without rubbing our noses in his defiant stupidity and flaunting his unwarranted hubris.

[–] HubertManne@moist.catsweat.com 4 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

yeah I was bogarting a thread on it because I appeared to be the only one watching.

[–] osaerisxero@kbin.melroy.org 3 points 22 hours ago

And we appreciated your sacrifice

[–] teawrecks@sopuli.xyz 1 points 19 hours ago

Wait what? You want to know what people who didn't watch the address thought of it?

[–] Benjaben@lemmy.world 7 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

Uh, sure sounds like only/overwhelmingly his supporters watched it and were polled. It's almost impossible to find anything that 76% percent of all Americans approve of.

Edit: if I would have read even a little, I'd have seen that others made this point. Apologies.

[–] IrateAnteater@sh.itjust.works 17 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I saw one place that seemed to say that the address approval poll was among those who watched it. Could be that those who were likely to disapprove didn't watch it in the first place.

[–] dogslayeggs@lemmy.world 4 points 22 hours ago

We couldn't watch it. We usually watch parts or all of the State of the Union and are pretty politically inclined, but we just could not listen to him say more than one sentence without wanting to break our TV. I haven't heard anyone at the office talking about it, either.

I'm guessing only his fans watched it, so of course it had high approval from those who watched it.

[–] bitchkat@lemmy.world 2 points 23 hours ago
[–] venotic@kbin.melroy.org 7 points 23 hours ago

The same 71 million idiots that voted for him probably watched it. The rest of them, probably went off to jerking off to incest porn, who knows.

[–] Today@lemmy.world 7 points 23 hours ago

And putin wins with 130% of the vote.

[–] conditional_soup@lemm.ee 4 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

What the fuck. Did I watch the same address as other Americans? That was awful. I can't believe it had that high of an approval rating

[–] metaldream@sopuli.xyz 2 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

It doesn't, they only polled people who watched, and most of the people watching were Trumpers.

[–] socialjusticewizard@sh.itjust.works 1 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

The American populace is comprised of a lot of very stupid, cowardly people. It's been molded by decades of propaganda to make them into this. I am not surprised and I do not expect Americans to be able to get themselves out of this descent spiral.

[–] slackassassin@sh.itjust.works 1 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago) (1 children)

Or, actually, it's sampling bias.

Probably both tbh. The pessimistic view is being born out in practice right now.

"Poll by cnn"

May as well be a poll by South Park.

I watched that thing. The only thing i managed to agree with was that men should not be able to compete as women in womens sports. It destroys the entire sport and makes it impossible for woman to compete. I laughed at South Park episodes about this but the reality is far from funny for the women competing.

The rest was just a narc talking. Blaming everyone else and thinking his own decisions are flawless. The guy is using the same rhetoric as Hitler and Americans dont seem to recognize it, probably because they dont read german history.

Nah, it's not Kool-Aid, it's orange juice.

Apparently OJ is going for like $11 a gallon in some places.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 2 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

But is it laced with poison?

[–] over_clox@lemmy.world 1 points 22 hours ago

It's probably laced with brain worms..

[–] atzanteol@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 day ago

People like dictators more than they will admit.

[–] AbidanYre@lemmy.world 3 points 21 hours ago

Did his first term ever have positive approval?

[–] NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 43 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

He does not look great in that picture. It's still wild to me that we essentially elected a walking corps with dementia.

[–] Makhno@lemmy.world 26 points 22 hours ago (1 children)
[–] Chivera@lemmy.world 14 points 22 hours ago (4 children)

3 times don't forget Biden was old as well

[–] Tx8664@startrek.website 6 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

Reagan was also a walking corpse with dementia and he also got two terms.

[–] NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 4 points 21 hours ago

Yeah, but Biden didn't have very clear dementia.

[–] Tilgare@lemmy.world 4 points 22 hours ago

Yeah but the choice was between the two of them in that case. Unavoidable.

[–] griff@lemmings.world 1 points 21 hours ago

Once, twice, three times a dotard…

[–] kikutwo@lemmy.world 7 points 16 hours ago

No, he just proclaimed it was the highest in history just last night at his rally.

[–] ramenshaman@lemmy.world 17 points 21 hours ago

I thought it was negative when he started

[–] HurlingDurling@lemmy.world 3 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

This is awesome, but when they say negative do they mean less than 0%? If so... how does that work?

[–] metaldream@sopuli.xyz 17 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago) (1 children)

They're talking about net approval. So if 48% of people approve and 52% disapprove then then his net approval is -4.

[–] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 8 points 15 hours ago

It was positive until now? Aight boys pack it up. We're done.

[–] griff@lemmings.world 1 points 21 hours ago

This will please Manley Manynov very muchly—strategic ketchup supplies expected to remain constant

[–] xc2215x@lemmy.world 1 points 22 hours ago

Trump deserves that negative approval rating.
