Buy a gun.

Join or form a militia.

Conservatives don't, and never did, give a flying fuck about the Constitution.

The rest of us are going to have to.

[–] thespcicifcocean@lemmy.world 11 points 6 hours ago

to anyone here who is active duty military:

you took an oath to protect and defend the constitution of the USA. It's time to start protecting and defending the constitution.

I don't think "serve"is the right verb to use here.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 11 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

When has the constitution ever stopped him before?

[–] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 8 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

perhaps we should give the other constitution a crack at it.

[–] FauxLiving@lemmy.world 5 points 15 hours ago

If Trump can beat the USS Constitution in a 1v1 then he can run for a 3rd term. This goes for all future, unaugmented two-term Presidents.

Stop listening to his words and report what's actually happening, news media

[–] Fredthefishlord@lemmy.blahaj.zone 52 points 1 day ago (1 children)

He's the president of the most powerful country on earth. When his words are "I'm seeking a dictatorship" they are news.

[–] bluegreenwookie@bookwormstory.social 38 points 1 day ago (3 children)

he did literally get elected on the promise of being a dictator

Exactly. Our media is absolutely spineless.

It should be breaking news, the US has fallen to authoritarianism. Trump is a dictator, etc.

They are not reporting the news accurately. But then again, the media currently serves the billionaire class.

Wait! You're suggesting that William Randolph Hearst wasn't one of the good ones? I am shocked, SHOCKED, I SAY! --Well, not that shocked.

[–] thehowlingnorth@lemmy.ca 37 points 1 day ago (4 children)

Dude looks like grim death now. They'll already have to Weekend at Bernie's him from 2026-2028.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 3 points 12 hours ago

did you look at his makeup from a recent video, he looks very sickly without it, the skin past his ears that is. thats why he made all attempts to hide sickly white skin with the orange makeup.

[–] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 4 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago) (1 children)

Naw, he's got at least another decade in him. His dad died at 93, and his mom died at 88. And that's without the health care they have today. I wouldn't be surprised if he lived into his 90s.

[–] AJ1@lemmy.ca 3 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

only the good die young. seems the worse you are, the longer you live. this fucker will still be destabilizing the globe at 100

[–] CrabAndBroom@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 hours ago

Case in point: Dick Cheney. And Henry Kissenger.

[–] subignition@fedia.io 31 points 1 day ago (4 children)

Even if old age gets him, Vance becomes the acting president, and he's every bit as evil while not being quite as senile. I highly doubt the MAGA cult is going to die alongside Trump.

[–] halcyoncmdr@lemmy.world 36 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Cults rarely survive a leader transition, especially ones based so fully around an individual rather than specific ideals. The cult will die, and the support will fracture, the underlying issues with the Republican party that allowed it will still be there.

I understand one tactic is for him to serve as VP under someone else who promises to resign to allow Trump to serve again but he keeps saying there's also other options.

WHAT OTHER OPTIONS IS HE TALKING ABOUT?

[–] OhNoMoreLemmy@lemmy.ml 3 points 11 hours ago

The supreme court has already ruled that the 14th amendment isn't self executing and congress is required to disqualify someone from being president.

The legal argument holds for any decision about presidential eligibility. So Trump can just stand and see if congress are brave enough to disqualify him in an open vote.

[–] ijedi1234@sh.itjust.works 2 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Trump could claim that his term as 45th and his term as 47th are recognized as separate offices of President. Thus, he would get one extra term as 47th's second term.

[–] CrabAndBroom@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 hours ago

Thus opening the door for some sort of Clinton-Bush type of future scenario where a Democrat and Republican are buddies behind the scenes and just keep running for one term and alternating for 20-odd years.

[–] sawdustprophet@midwest.social 23 points 1 day ago (1 children)

one tactic is for him to serve as VP under someone else who promises to resign to allow Trump to serve again

According to the 12th amendment, "no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States."

This seems pretty plain to me: if you can't serve as president, you also can't serve as vice president. Of course, this has never been tested in court...

[–] 52fighters@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That's interesting. When I was reading the Constitution, I didn't read it the same way. I thought that the basic rules (age, citizenship, etc.) were what applied since obtaining office and serving office were distinct in my mind. I like your reading better but I have a feeling SCOTUS wouldn't read it the same way you do.

Just not holding elections due to some sort of national emergency is a tried and true method.

[–] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 4 points 18 hours ago

No, he'll just issue an executive order that gets rid of term limits. Who's going to remove him?

[–] 52fighters@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

We held elections in the middle of the Civil War and made sure soldiers could vote. If Lincoln could do it then, we can do it now. I'll fight to make sure we have elections, and I hope others do the same.

[–] jonne@infosec.pub 4 points 18 hours ago

Yeah, but Lincoln wanted elections. It's different if the President doesn't want them.

[–] withabeard@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 day ago (2 children)

He's making a lot of noise about Zelensky not going to the polls. So ...

War, he's talking about taking America to war so strongly they can't have an election.

It's easy. Just refuse to leave and nobody will do shit about it except complain, as always.
