Strongly suggest not telling anyone when you make such a decision. Keep it to yourself, work privately, and keep going until someone else comments (and then keep going anyway).

Telling people gets their praise, then you have a false sense of accomplishment and motivation gets sapped.

Completely projecting. Maybe you're already doing this, what do I know? But maybe it's a helpful perspective, so I said it anyway.

It's the other way around for me. Telling people holds me accountable and adds some external motivation.

[–] Berttheduck@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yeah this is often advice given for any love changes (weight loss, stopping smoking etc) as getting support from others is usually really helpful plus it gives more accountability.

[–] HeHoXa@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago

There's definitely an important distinction between mentioning it in casual conversation vs getting a workout buddy / nutritionist / whatever to genuinely hold you accountable and support you.

I'm sure it also depends on personality. I used to assert it held me accountable too, but over the years I've had to admit that was delusion.

Apparently I'm very motivated by positive feedback and need to withhold it until I've actually done the thing.

Certainly not universal. We all gotta find our own way

I experienced this myself for sure. Just do the thing and get into it. Also helps make sure youre really doing it for yourself.

Or you can watch them in the reverse order, that'll give you what you wanted in the first place.

I know Toggle Button, Check Button, Disabled Button... Never heard about Benjamin Button, sorry.

[–] Bluegrass_Addict@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 days ago

just incase you were serious and thought I meant an actual button

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Curious_Case_of_Benjamin_Button_(film)

The film stars a man who ages in reverse

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

You mean checkbox?

There is radio button.

[–] Waraugh@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

My radio has several button

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 days ago

Is your radio from 1962? Because that’s around the time this type of button group comes from. Probably even earlier.

[–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

You're getting into a shape, technically.

[–] Kintarian@lemmy.world 22 points 3 days ago

I’m in shape. Round is a shape.

[–] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 17 points 3 days ago

Just need to treat it as a standard deviation bell curve where they haven't reached the peak yet.

[–] JennaR8r@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 days ago

The picture isn't loading for me, can only see it in tiny thumbnail view, so if anyone else is experiencing this glitch, here I screenshat the tiny thumbnail then enlarged it so I could read it.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 9 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Just pretend the latest photo is the before, and the earliest one is the after. Now you're getting skinnier and younger! 😎

[–] sfxrlz@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Drugs and a heavy injury is all I needed. Lost 20kgs (44 lbs) in two weeks and haven’t ever regained them.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 12 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Usually people gain weight because of those things.

[–] sfxrlz@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Yeah well the drugs in question are cigarettes and weed. And the weight lost was mostly muscles. /s in case anyone couldn’t tell Would not recommend a permanent nerve injury just to fucking lose some weight

[–] LadyMeow@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 3 days ago

So you’re saying I can lose ~40 pounds????? :3

[–] toynbee@piefed.social 1 points 2 days ago

I injured my back and had great difficulty leaving my bed for a long time. As a result, I stopped adequately feeding myself. Previously I would eat three meals a day, including one between midnight and 2am (when my family was asleep). Getting from my bed to the kitchen involved going down and coming back up a flight of stairs, which was a major ask with my injury.

As a result, besides a few non perishable snacks I kept on my nightstand, I ended up pretty much just eating what my wife was available to prepare and bring to me. She is loving and caring. I literally don't know what I would or even could have done without her support. However, we have a kid and my wife has a life, so she wasn't always around when I was hungry; in general, that meant I was mostly eating one full meal a day. It was not uncommon for me to have under 1000 calories.

I'm not exactly sure of the timeframe (or what I weigh now), but I lost thirty pounds.

[–] AI_toothbrush@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 days ago

Well yeah, there are people whod enjoy that too

[–] Kaligalis@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Every picture taken after the first is also an "after" picture.

[–] cuerdo@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

That is called life
