I get the feeling that Q is one of those people who would never respect anyone who looked at him with the mildest empathy
Lxwana however has had multiple arcs where you learn to have empathy for her or explore empathy for some other stigmatized individual through her
DS9: Her in the elevator with Odo was a damn good one.
It was so cute! At first I was mad that they had just reduced her to being a sexpest again after all her other character building episodes but it made up for it
I think her story is an important lesson in understanding different social norms between cultures. Betazed was characterized as a sex-positive matriarchal society. The characters could have learned how to deal with that in a healthy way but it got used for sex jokes. I'm glad a positive message still came through her character anyway, and I'd wager it was Majel herself who insisted on it if no one else.
I always got the feeling that the sex-pest aspect was an intentional diplomatic tool she used. Her overt sexuality made others uncomfortable and would give her an edge in negotiations with others because they are distracted by their discomfort. In some episodes she drops that facade and you see the woman underneath. Early on, she was a somewhat flat and undeveloped character, but she grew to be well rounded and fascinating.
Overall it did get to that point. My favorite was when they explored senior rights and respect for abrasive cultural customs in that episode where she falls for a scientist who can save his planet from destruction.
Is Majel a previous Star Trek actor like that one ship doctor fron TNG ? You can feel her influence on it, she had to have had some pull in the writing room with the performance she was bringing to the table. She's way too good to let that character be relegated to only a punchline

That's so cool how they do that. I didn't see very much of TOS but finding out there's like a "Star Trek Royalty" cast was awesome
I'm getting the impression that you don't know she was married to Gene Roddenberry.
Or that she was the voice of the ship's computer from TOS all the way through to the 2009 movie (i.e. her role only ended because she died).

Were there any children in the Q portion of the Robin Hood episode? It seems like there may have been some in the castle courtyard?
Oh, actually, he does abduct Wesley in the Riker Q episode.
Wesley is a freebie, we don't count that one.

The writers seemingly forgot about it, too. The next season Picard was telling him the story about fighting the Nausicaans and the experience of being impaled through the back (artificial heart episode) and Wesley made no mention (or reaction) that the same thing had happened to him by the vicious animal things.
I’m never sure how much Q magic happens to erase the crews memories.
They always return to only a few bridge officers remember the whole thing.
Actually, in hindsight that would be so depressing to find out the Q with their omnipotence and probably future sight found you so uninteresting as to write your mind, but not the guys you work with

Also… Q wouldn’t abduct children into a holodeck, when he could just abduct them into a new reality.
I forget the name of the episode, but it's the one where she's having second thoughts about marrying Campio the royal jerk she found online, and she takes Alexander to the mud bath for laughing hour, where he's trying to avoid his father.
She takes Alexander to the holodeck - which I think is fine, since his father is abusive through the abandonment - and spends some time with him. What took me off guard is that she takes him to a spa. Mudbath. Possibly naked. I am a little on the fence on this one because nudity is not always sexual and the context of a bath at least lends a solid explanation of why to be in the nude. On the other hand she just met that poor boy.
The Betazed sensibilities on nudity are so different though that I think you can excuse the casual forms like that. We don’t really get a sense of Klingon nudity sensibilities though, so it’s hard to really put together the full picture.
He didn’t seem uncomfortable or harmed by it at least
Plus, we (humans) have changerooms with nudity and it’s relatively normal. I find it not very common now (in Canada), but it was when I was a kid. A month ago I was in Europe and had to use a communal shower, and there was a dad and a kid, which was weird but also totally normal.
So I dunno, yes, weird to do that without consent from mr woof, but I don’t think it was inherently wrong.
Taking me to a spa is 100% something my weird grandma would have done (she took me some weird places back in the '80s). There wouldn't have been any nudity, but she was a Republican, not a Betazoid.

I cant stand either of these characters. They did an excellent job with them. Depending on mood I'll skip a Q episode.
I always looked forward to Q episodes when they were airing.
De Lancie always made things exciting.
