I think Tissot has to be bang for back along with Hamilton etc. the PRX and new Chemin Des Tourelles, Le Locle, Gentleman ie powermatic 80s etc., have stepped things up a notch.

Excellent summary. I’m fairly new as well but I would add to OP that quartz is generally cheaper than automatic (exceptions apply) and quartz also tend to be thinner - at least at the lower price end (again, more exceptions).
Putting ‘noob’ on a collection that many people here will never be able to afford isn’t the best idea.
