Summary

Masked neo-Nazis marched through Columbus, Ohio’s Short North neighborhood on Saturday, displaying swastika flags and making racist and antisemitic statements.

Police are investigating, and no arrests have been reported.

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine and Columbus officials condemned the display, emphasizing that hate and bigotry have no place in the state.

The incident follows a similar demonstration in Michigan last week, where masked protesters displayed Nazi flags outside a performance of The Diary of Anne Frank.

people who hate Jews voted for a guy who took all restrictions off of Israel

inhale

HAHAHAHAHAHA

[–] drake@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

Israel isn’t representative of Jewish people. It uses jewish people as a shield from criticism. Israel is a pro-US colonialist project before it’s jewish. This is like saying that people hate leftists but they voted for the national socialist german worker’s party

[–] zalgotext@sh.itjust.works 1 points 9 minutes ago (1 children)

You think these dumbass neo nazi chucklefucks have enough brain cells to rub together to make that distinction?

[–] drake@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 4 minutes ago

yes, they hate arabs most of all, so they probably consider israel’s genocide to be based. they probably love the concept that they’re funding a war that will kill lots of jews and lots of arabs

I mean why wouldn't they? Americans told them to be Nazi and proud this election after all.

[–] Zorg@lemmings.world 5 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Exactly!

Devine and other R politicians have no shame pandering for their votes, dog-whistles and all.

[–] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 2 points 58 minutes ago

I mean hell, not even dog whistles this time. Trump and his allies were loudly shouting Nazi slogans publicly and there was no pushback.

[–] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 3 points 2 hours ago

Hey they voted for hate and bigotry at the federal level

[–] kokesh@lemmy.world 38 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

They're just preparing for the inauguration.

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 7 points 2 hours ago

Police are investigating...sure I bet a few officers were in the march. Yes because Trump going allow nazi the only right to free speech. When fhe protest begin Trump will send in the troops to put them down.

[–] TheEighthDoctor@lemmy.world 35 points 9 hours ago

Back in Normandy and Carentan Americans used to call that target practice, make America great again please.

[–] NeoToasty@kbin.melroy.org 139 points 12 hours ago (7 children)

This will be normalized within the next 4 years.

[–] SuiXi3D@fedia.io 72 points 12 hours ago

When the masks come off, that’s when it’s really bad.

[–] DogPeePoo@lemm.ee 46 points 11 hours ago

Oh, don’t worry. That was just the new Secretary of Defense and a few of his buddies out having a good time.

I wonder what the amount of Trump gear vs Nazi flags was. It's also very ironic how when Nazi's march in the streets without a permit the cops just block off the street with their cars and perform crowd control to "help protect the city" (the Nazis). And when people of color march without a permit because cops killed another person over something stupid they get met with riot gear, tear gas, and rubber bullets.

It's going to get so much worse before it gets better ...

[–] StarlightDust@lemmy.blahaj.zone 88 points 11 hours ago (9 children)

They appear to have been arrested, traveling in a U-haul.

[–] Zink@programming.dev 0 points 59 minutes ago

It legitimately looks like the cop on the left is giving that guy tips for next time.

[–] Passerby6497@lemmy.world 9 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Wasn't that a previous Nazi rally? Or did it happen again?

[–] quirzle@lemmy.zip 7 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

This picture is top of the Columbus subreddit from yesterday, so doesn't seem like it's from a previous occurrence.

[–] JudahBenHur@lemm.ee 6 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Reddit is not a reliable source for verified facts in any way, at any time, at all.

I can nearly swear I remember this photo from the last trump administration.

[–] quirzle@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Ah, I forgot to consult the internet's most reliable source for verified facts: random dude who sears he remembers somethings.

Given the details of the post with multiple photos, it's plausible reddit's the source of the image. I wasn't able to find an older posting of it, but by all means share your link from 4+ years ago if you've got t.

[–] nexas_XIII@lemm.ee 5 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

They're not entirely wrong though. Remember how Reddit "caught" the Boston marathon bomber?

[–] quirzle@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 hour ago (2 children)

I think they *are *entirely wrong though. This thread's about Nazis in Columbus and whether they were caught. I don't think "I remember this from years ago, trust me bro" is a convincing reason to dismiss the photos. Neither is their having been posted in reddit, even if they fucked up an unrelated thing over a decade ago.

Again, I'm happy to be disproven. If the image above was actually circulating years ago, it should be relatively easy to find it posted somewhere else prior to yesterday. I couldn't find it, hence why I commented about it in the first place

[–] nexas_XIII@lemm.ee 2 points 31 minutes ago

I'm just addressing the fact that Reddit isn't always correct and we should want more credible sources than random people submitting things online with no vetting. That's where they aren't entirely wrong. I'm not saying they're right and their memory is a reason to believe this is incorrect, but they're just some person online just like the Reddit user.

[–] JudahBenHur@lemm.ee 2 points 53 minutes ago

yeah thats all fair

[–] tatterdemalion@programming.dev 16 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Interesting. The article ends by saying there were no arrests.

[–] ShepherdPie@midwest.social 12 points 3 hours ago

Ah, maybe the police were stopping them to pick up their coworkers from out of the van so that they could start their shift.

"We will not tolerate hate in Ohio," Ohio Republican Gov. Mike DeWine said in a statement on the social media platform X on Saturday evening.

Talking from both sides of your ballot box, are we, Mike? Fucking moron. You support the hate candidate and you get a hate populace.

[–] Mirshe@lemmy.world 4 points 2 hours ago

Considering this was happening before the election was declared as well, I'm willing to take the stance that Ohio is just a magnet for trash Nazis.

I miss the days when it was acceptable to beat the shit out of Nazis. Can we bring that back?

My sister and I are in Columbus for a concert and we were in a store right across the street from this happening. Shook us up pretty good. I have never seen something like that before.
