I understand that teams in these contracts are paying for future production, not past production. If I’m going to give you like $100M, I’d like to have some past production. Patrick Williams has done some stuff, but like that’s just… if that’s the number, if that ends up being true and the Vassell deal ends up being the comp that his agents go to, that’s a lot of cheese.

Starting about 32 minutes into The Lowe Post.

Who's Patrick Williams?

[–] likpoper@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I’ve honestly only ever heard of him because of a basketball podcast that has a diehard chicago bulls fan (shoutout through the wire).

Get that bag tho

Giving him 20 mil + would be moronic and continue to set the bulls back years, so it’ll probably happen

[–] PoolePartyVIP@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

21 a year is not remotely close to “big big numbers” these days

[–] pickledelbow@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Maybe if dude actually played

[–] Cravypickle22@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Pat Will need mo bread

[–] DueTrick2324@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago
[–] mochidoodoo@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I think he's going to peak as an 18-20ppg 3&D guy, and that's worth $25m/year imo.

I loved Pat-Will coming out of the draft but dude just doesn't seem to have any semblance of "Dog" in him.

Not a little very high what has he shown to warrant that type of money ? Most of it is probably because of his role but overall he hasn’t shown anything

I love Pat, but anything north of 100/4 would be madness.

[–] destroyerofpoon93@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

100 would be absurd too. Bro is like the 7th best player on a team that didn’t make the playoffs

[–] Sy6574@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

100/4 is still kind of nuts unless he makes a leap this year

[–] CorrectionCreator@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

For what? What has dude done?

[–] bullpaw@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (6 children)

Large reason why the Bulls had a top 5 defense last year despite starting Lavine Demar and Vucevic, for one

Like, what is he thinking he deserves: 5/200, $40mil per year? That's almost in cognitive dissonance category. jfc.

[–] metroaide@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

It's 20/200

[–] iSionLLu@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (13 children)

It says starts with a 2 and isn't 20, so presumably 25-29m/y?

What is his best accomplishment/game? How is he justifying that

I mean hes pretty good but IDK about $200M a year good

[–] thesch@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

He’s been the 5th or 6th best player on a team that didn’t make the playoffs. Any hype for him is almost entirely based around the fact that he’s still young, not because he’s actually been a big impact player so far.

[–] carrot-man@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

By most advanced metrics he has been the Bull's second worst rotation player ahead of Ayo. I like Pat but he has a lot to prove.

2 million a year it is. I'm shocked he wants the minimum

Totally depends on how he looks this year. Absolutely nobody is giving him $100M+ for a 4th straight 10/5-ish season.

To get paid for potential you have to actually display you're making steps towards that potential.

Pat Williams and I are more alike than I thought...

[–] hoopbag33@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago
[–] jusbolo2@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

He should start paying people to talk him up as the next OG, it would be worth it.

[–] RonsDarlings@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

He better fucking win MVP this year then

[–] yungchigz@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Shit he better start hooping then

Might be a good pickup in fantasy then

[–] Smellmyhand@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I wish I had that kind of delusion

[–] jumboponcho@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Lol @ people disliking players for wanting a bag, if he doesn’t deserve it the market will reflect that

He's a #4 overall pick that plays excellent defense and can guard almost every position and is an excellent 3 point shooter? And he's young af? Pay the man. Or trade him to someone who will (please give him to Portland, we'll give you Jerami Grant for him and Lonzo plus our FRP back).

It always cracks me up when people think someone hasn't earned it simply due to them not being a primary ball handler or offense initiator. As if that's the only skillset that is rare to find.

[–] Muted_Dog7317@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (6 children)

Pay him $200 million when Grant Williams went for $54 million with a similar skill set?

P will pros and cons

Pros:

Has a high 3% pt

Can get a decent midrange shot up pretty much whenever he wants

Is incredibly athletic

Seems like a good dude

Good at both individual and help defense

You can make an argument he has more potential while not being the 4th option and while not being on a garbage franchise like the bulls

Cons:

His 3 point shot is slow

His handle/drive/finishing around the rim isn't very good

Doesn't draw free throws

Very disappointing rebounder for his size and athleticism

Does not appear to have that dog in him

I don’t think he deserves it but if I were his agent this would be my argument:

Jerami Grant/Devin Vessel make this money and would be my baseline. My client was a 4th overall pick whose offensive opportunities have been limited playing with 3 dominant scorers who don’t play D. He could easily put up Devin’s numbers given the same opportunity and has more upside then Grant long term. Meanwhile my client has played elite D while shooting 40% on 3s with those 3 guys who don’t play D. My client can defend 1-4. Overall Pat Williams is just a great guy!

His impression is injury prone. Good defender Not tall enough to guard some big PF A good mid-range jumper A bad 3 pts shooter

Conclusion: not worths the money

I misread it as Patrick Beverly and thought he’d really gone off the deep end this time

[–] kabman7@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Not worth more than 15m
