Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

[slightly rearranged]:

a maintenance issue required a change of planes. [Noem's] personal blanket was not transferred [to the new plane].

How about you be responsible for your own fucking shit, Noem? What about "personal responsibility"? The pilot is there to fly the fucking plane, not be your personal body-slave.

[–] dan1101@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

All I can think is "My blanket, I waaaant it, waaah!"

[–] grue@lemmy.world 43 points 2 days ago (1 children)

What about “personal responsibility”?

LOL, since when has a Republican ever cared about that?

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 12 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

They do, they say: "Look what you made me do!"

[–] BowtiesAreCool@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

Also why is that the pilots duty? Does she really not have a PA who’s job that is?

[–] hddsx@lemmy.ca 104 points 2 days ago (4 children)

I would have just said no, but I don’t know if military can do that:

“The personnel action was reversed, though, when it was determined that no other pilot was immediately available to operate the aircraft for the return flight.”

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 94 points 2 days ago

so basically she told him he was fired then realized pilots don't grow on trees and immediately reversed it?

[–] Blackfeathr@lemmy.world 43 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Would have been so hilarious after all that if he just told her to call an Uber.

[–] andrewta@lemmy.world 29 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Yeah can’t really say no to orders in the military. (Unless they are obviously unlawful)

[–] mitkase@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago

With talk like that, expect a lawsuit from the administration. How dare you!

[–] scintilla@crust.piefed.social 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

And that's only kinda true. You have to prove that the order had no way of being lawful basically.

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 day ago

Which a JAG officer would be able to help with.

If they haven’t all been fired yet.

[–] AdolfSchmitler@lemmy.world 20 points 2 days ago (4 children)

I literally would have told her to fuck off. Or at least delay the ever living fuck out of the flight.

[–] Zak@lemmy.world 25 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I imagine that would be a career-limiting decision for a military pilot.

If he instead acts "professionally", which means putting up with her bullshit for the rest of the day, then he has a decent chance of getting quickly reassigned to a role where he doesn't have to deal with her again.

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 10 points 2 days ago

reassigned to a role where he doesn't have to deal with her again.

Which , I'm sure, would make him very happy.

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 15 points 2 days ago

"Sorry, I'm already drunk."

[–] Nastybutler@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

He should fly the plane like he's eluding fighter jets or SAMs. Maybe throw in a barrel roll or two. Definitely should go hard on takeoff and landing.

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 6 points 2 days ago

"Sorry, I need to poop. For the next four hours."

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 43 points 2 days ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

After they fired him, and told him to take a commercial flight home:

The personnel action was reversed, though, when it was determined that no other pilot was immediately available to operate the aircraft for the return flight.

A DHS spokeswoman did not address the specific episode but said Kristi Noem has made personnel decisions intended “to deliver excellence.”

So they fired the guy, kicked him out, and then had to go get him back because they had forgotten that someone had to fly them home.

Can you imagine that guy, stalking through the airport toward the Southwest desk to buy a ticket home with his own money, muttering angrily under his breath, when a bunch of ICE Apes roll up on him, and demand he return.

"Why?"

"You have to fly the plane home."

"I'm fired, remember? Go find someone else."

"There isn't anyone else."

"It's an airport, there are pilots everywhere! Go kidnap one, and force him to fly her."

"Yeah, that's YOU! You're coming with us, that's an order!"

"I'm fired, I don't take orders from anyone. And even when I wasn't fired, I didn't take orders from YOU."

"If you're looking for some trouble, you're going to find some trouble," and they all took a step closer, and slightly raised their weapons.

The pilot, trained to keep his head under extreme stress, didn't flinch, and said "Listen, boys, this is an easy problem to fix. If you want me to fly that plane so badly - make me an offer."

"Huh?"

"Make. Me. An. Offer."

"An offer?"

"Did you hit your head? Go ask your boss how much it's worth to her for me to enthusiastically fly her plane, or else I can fly my LAST flight as an unemployed, suicidal pilot, flying the psychopath who is FORCING me to work, like a slave. You go ask her what she'll pay "to deliver excellence.""

Nothing on AO3 can beat this writing

[–] AlecSadler@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 1 day ago

I'd watch this movie

[–] nulluser@lemmy.world 55 points 2 days ago

He's the fucking PILOT, not your god damned nanny (no offense to nannies intended). Move your own blanky.

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 35 points 2 days ago (1 children)
[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 18 points 2 days ago

Unfair to Linus, who is a kind and caring individual. For instance young Snoopy often stole his blanket and he never shot the puppy.

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 21 points 2 days ago

If that's a fireable offence, what does that make being an accessory to murder?

[–] WesternInfidels@feddit.online 23 points 2 days ago

This administration is just 97 Karens in a trenchcoat

[–] My_IFAKs___gone@lemmy.world 33 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Makes me wonder if blanket transfer is on the checklist. I know pilots rely a lot of checklists, so if it wasn't on the list, then the checklist maker is the one at fault and should immediately self-report to Leavenworth to await general court martial and inevitable incarceration.

[–] Triumph@fedia.io 19 points 2 days ago

Nothing short of execution.

[–] SinningStromgald@lemmy.world 21 points 2 days ago (2 children)

What kind of blanket is THAT important? Does Noem have a security blanket she travels with or something?

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 14 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

She shoots puppies in the face for less.

Well it's not like she can pick up dead puppies bare handed.

[–] thallamabond@lemmy.world 28 points 2 days ago

He should be grateful he wasn't taken out to a rock quarry and shot! /s

[–] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 25 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I’d call her a cunt, but vaginas are actually useful

[–] gnutrino@programming.dev 11 points 2 days ago

She has neither the warmth nor the depth

[–] krigo666@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago

You could call her a twat, but English readers would wonder why going so easy on her.

[–] UncleArthur@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago

He's lucky she didn't shoot him.

Holy fuck there is no blanket I have ever traveled with that I would fire someone over. You expect to lose/spill/damage travel blankets. Anyone who spends that much on makeup alone has no excuse to lash out over a blanket. All those detainees not getting blankets would like a word, lady.

I'm having grave and serious flashback of Mike matei and his interpretation of elmo and his lost blanket. The edgiest most embarassing thing online up to this day. If you don't know what is this, maybe you also shouldn't look for it, it's tremendously stupid.

[–] Lexam@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

Finally they're doing something about the corruption in the Coast Guard!

[–] titanicx@lemmy.zip 0 points 2 days ago

Who gives a shit. He's an accessory to the murder and enslavement of so many people. Fuck him
