sadly I would not put it past a lot of those psychopaths to do it for free.

No doubt that some of them are doing it for the love of the game. 🫀

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 39 points 5 days ago

Maybe some of them just show up in masks with their mallninjashit, and they’re not on the payroll and no one asks if they did the two week training.

I was recently thinking, this recruitment drive must be heaven for the common proud boys brownshirt.

Who of them wouldn't sign up, they get to harm immigrants, they get cover from the very top if they catch public attention, they get gear, and they might even get paid for it.

This is what he meant by "stand back and stand by"

They'll just take a page out of Imperial Japan's warbook and resort to living off the land post-invasion.

The sooner they start living off the land, the better. And by that, I mean "swimming". Lash a bunch of them together to form an ICEberg.

This is one thing I never understood... how does he keep getting away with it? Repeatedly screwing people over and over and over and over again and somehow no one doing shit about it?

He doesn't just screw over workers, he does it for his business partners, too. Wealthy and powerful people... people who can hire hitmen and also pay to make the evidence disappear. If they can kill Epstein why wouldn't they have gotten rid of him in the 80s and 90s when he didn't have as much power as he does now?

The american legal system is catered to one principal:

if you owe your bank $10 that's your problem, if you owe your bank $10 billion dollars, that is your banks' problem.

This is why salespeople and scammers flourish in america: get enough loans and debt and you can uno reverse any monetary problem here but often rich people and bullshit artists are the only ones who have enough collateral to get that kind of debt.

The courts are designed to take a lifetime to figure that kind of stuff out - it keeps going as long as you have money. This is why republicans are obsessed with the estate tax: if you pass it on to your kids before the scam gets sorted out, all the ill gotten gains are laundered. Your kids are set for life and all the people you conned foot the bill.

It also shows how much a high estate tax would cripple these incentives.

Same thing with the AI bubble. Sure it will burst, companies will go bankrupt, millions of peoples retirement savings will disappear, and many will suffer /die from the economic aftershock...

BUT

The rich will have already realized their dividends / capital gains

The rich will have already purchased the land / property

The rich will already have the data centers / ram / AI

They rich will have their assets and eat ours to

...

The whole system is a kleptocracy and the AI bubble bursting will make late stage capitalism worse not better.

My understanding is the not paying people is β€œlegit” in that the remedy is the courts but his lawyers are good at making it too costly to pursue. If they believe they weren’t paid, they should sue: notice there are few judgements against him like that.

It’s just like all his shell companies. During the first reign of terror, there were articles that they found over 500 companies with payments going back and forth so the web was impossible to decipher and there were always Trump owned companies with huge losses/writeoffs. I don’t remember them actually finding anything illegal but it sure smells like it. He even bragged it was so complex that the irs didn’t have enough auditors to dig through that for tax fraud. It was almost a dare. What happened to that?

Unscrupulous people use other unscrupulous people as patsies... They're all so up their own ass that they don't think they'll be the one that has one over on them. They are all narcissistic.

[–] modus@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I don't get it either. My cousins lived in Southern New Jersey, near Atlantic City, where all of his casinos went bankrupt. He was notorious for not paying local contractors and some went into horrible debt due to his refusal to pay. Yet that whole region is crazy about him. I suppose they just don't have very good memories around there.

What if in our world of infinite universal timeline probabilities, this is the timeline where Trump always gets what he wants?

To think there's a potentiality where he always loses and we missed it by this much.

[–] Malfeasant@lemmy.world 8 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Same way I stuck with my wife for 20 years despite her being a rotten person - I kept hoping it would get better, and she'd string me along with promises... Then she cheated on me with our son's best friend's dad, that finally made it easy to leave, and once I left, hindsight made all the previous mistreatment so much more obvious...

Yo dawg pardon my language but fuck that bitch. Stay strong and sorry someone played with your heart like that. Your example speaks volumes for your son.

An authoritarian typically keeps the military and police well-fed, or alternatively allows them to rob the plebs as they see fit. Otherwise bad things may happen to the emperor.

Unfortunately, Trump is likely to kick the bucket before he sees any blowback of this.

yeah he did trash all those science fundings for a reason and part of it is to pay his own policing force aka ICE

Is that from true lies?

I’m sure it’s Arnold’s face

[–] Pudutr0n@lemmy.world 21 points 5 days ago (4 children)

I think it is. Can't recall the exact scene though.

[–] ummthatguy@lemmy.world 35 points 5 days ago (3 children)

When he uses a squad to break into Bill Paxton's sleazy getaway spot where he tries to seduce Jamie Lee Curtis. It's followed by this scene:

It’s even better because when they do get paid if they leave before their 5 years they have to pay back their bonuses INCLUDING tax.

So they’re kinda paying for the privilege of hunting minorities. Really sick to think about.

ICE had a signup bonus (dunno how much, $4000, I think?), and nobody received it yet.

The guy who is 'famous for not paying' is Trump, who has a history of being in debt/not paying his debts off.

[–] abigscaryhobo@lemmy.world 32 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (2 children)

Specifically not paying contractors. He would regularly hire contractors for jobs at Trump buildings/companies where it was x% up front and x% on completion. Then when they came for the completion percent he would just not pay and make them take him to court. Sometimes he paid, but other times they just couldn't afford to litigate as long as he could so they'd get stiffed.

Or paying the buses to his rally in winter but not back, abandoning a ton of his followers to freeze the night or find other ways home.

Afaik the bonus promised is 50k, which is a bit more significant. Leads to people joking that they'd like to join, get the bonus and then just not do the job.

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 33 points 5 days ago (1 children)

You have to stay with the agency several years. The plan is to fire them before paying.

[–] diablomnky666@lemmy.wtf 11 points 4 days ago

Exactly it's a retention bonus that gets paid out in stages, but DHS can also recoup all of it if the agent/goon leaves before the period expires. I wouldn't be surprised if they dangle a "reenlistment" bonus near the end of the term which locks them in longer.

Its the old bait and switch. Did you know that Federal Deposit Insurance can be paid out in a period of decades? They can make you ''whole'' over a period of time that can stretch over years. Technically you will not lose any money but practically you can die before you get your money.

[–] shittydwarf@sh.itjust.works 33 points 5 days ago (1 children)

A trump never pays his debts

[–] TootSweet@lemmy.world 12 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Wait, are they really not getting paid? Dont get me wrong id rather see them just lose the job and or get deported (to the bottom of the ocean), but if they arent getting paid that a lil karma at least. And funny.

Also please dont lump A'nold in with those scumbags.

They're probably getting their monthly salary but that 50k bonus requires 5 years "service" so they'll all be out of a job before then

[–] FerretyFever0@fedia.io 25 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Pedos are like that. Diddy is well known for never paying anybody, which is why 50 Cent was given all of that footage.

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 19 points 5 days ago (8 children)

Ya know, I don't keep up with the rap world. The only "diddy" songs I know are a song from the 1998 Godzilla soundtrack, which uses a Led Zepplin sampled song as the basis for the song, and a collaboration with Lincoln Park where he uses a their entire song, with him replacing their lyrics with his own in which he calls all women bitches.

So my view of him from my vantage point is that he's unoriginal, and needs other peoples work to survive.

I know even less about 50 cent's music. I don't know a single song. I just know he got famous around 2007 for getting shot 7 times. But any idiot can get shot. Just ask Brett.

That being said, outside of music I know diddy used to host parties in which he needed 10,000 bottles of baby oil.

50 cent on the other hand I've been told got the creeps from diddy, and that led to some confrontation, which left 50 cent with a grudge. Then he said he felt happy taking diddy down, and was happy there were no more parties.

So even though I will probably never listen to a single one of his songs, and even though I can't imagine how or why I'd ever spend money on 50 cent, I can still say I at least respect the fact that he saw diddy as a creep who needed to be taken down. I can respect that. Even if the music isn't for me.

[–] FerretyFever0@fedia.io 9 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I've never listened to any of Diddy's music. All I know is everything that's been revealed. Another important fact is that he paid to have Tupac killed for a million dollars. Funnily enough, he didn't pay that guy either. Also got Biggie killed. He's a piece of shit.
