Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

I'm Canadian and we lost to both US teams. Nobody in my nation is mocking either of the US teams. Honestly the women's goal tending was nuts. I'd like to see trump last 5 minutes on the ice with one of those ladies dancing the puck around him.

Between this and trump's recent voting comments, women in the US should be very concerned.

[–] Gerudo@lemmy.zip 72 points 4 days ago (1 children)

1/3 of US women are totally cool with it.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 30 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Hell, a majority of white women voters.

Probably partly because of the Dem leadership's obsession with fruitless pandering to wine moms, people keep forgetting about the Karens.

Most notable was Trump’s performance among white women. The Harris campaign actively targeted the group in the hope that protecting abortion rights would garner their support.

Yet such support failed to materialize, with Trump winning among white women 53% to 46% over Harris, with that group making up the largest overall voting bloc at 40%, according to AP VoteCast.

It really sucks. Even though it is a small majority, it is disgusting to think that 53 of of 100 white women would prefer Trump to Harris.

For comparison:

White and Suburban Men

The Pew Research Center found that Trump in 2016 had a 30-point advantage over Clinton among white men. While Trump still had a sizable advantage in that demographic in 2020, Biden did make some gains and shrunk the margin to 17 points.

So far, Harris appears to have lost some of that ground in 2024, according to the AP. White men who supported Trump made up 59% of those surveyed as of Wednesday afternoon, compared to 39% for Harris – a margin that was smaller than Clinton’s eight years ago but still larger than Biden's in 2020.

I don't understand these numbers. 59 + 39 != 100. Did 2% vote for a 3rd party?

I guess this is what happens when you tolerate intolerance

Now more than ever, there’s a magnificent difference between the people representing the country and the people running the country.

Good on you all.

The is no way trump could stand for two seconds on skates, let alone use them on ice.

[–] elucubra@sopuli.xyz 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

There is no way he could put on skates, with these feet.

I'd like to see Orange T skate across the ice from one entrance to the other. We would get to have President JD Vance this month if he did try it.

[–] FireRetardant@lemmy.world 11 points 4 days ago (4 children)

Careful what you wish for. I worry JD is just as evil if not worse but also more cognitive.

[–] Gumbyyy@lemmy.world 12 points 4 days ago

Yeah, but he doesn't have the rabid cult of personality

[–] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 8 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (4 children)

He absolutely holds ideas that are as bad or worse. He doesn't have the charisma or the network to inact it though.

I am mocking the people who are mocking us allegedly mocking them, however

as for the men's game.. goddamn, hellebuyck again. what a performance. and those missed opportunities on the wide open net hurt. it happens... but it hurts.

unfortunately, I've literally not seen a single non-inflammatory comment from an American yet on social media. obviously there's the algorithm factor of boosting inflammatory shit.. but it's still a bad look. I have told off a few Canadians for being (unprompted) dicks, though

My friends and I have been trying to get sterilized since the election. Half of us have been successful so far. It feels like one of the last ways we can protect ourselves

[–] FireRetardant@lemmy.world 12 points 4 days ago (3 children)

Forgive me if this is ignorant, but what does getting sterilized protect you from in this situation?

[–] FoxyFerengi@startrek.website 29 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Childbirth and pregnancy during the first Trump era was a nightmare, and it is again.

[–] Sineljora@sh.itjust.works 25 points 4 days ago (1 children)

They’re legalizing marital rape and criminalizing miscarriages. This move protects them from possible death and criminal charges.

[–] Mirshe@lemmy.world 17 points 4 days ago

Additionally, a lot of hospitals and doctors in those states are being very shaky about providing prenatal or neonatal care because of the potential of opening them to liability if a baby dies.

I’d like to see him out on the ice against them. No, really. Him toddling around, falling, breaking all his bones. I’d love to see that.

[–] Stormy@thelemmy.club 20 points 4 days ago

He literally posted an AI video on himself in a suit playing ice hockey a few hours ago.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 12 points 4 days ago (1 children)

As they beat him with their sticks. "Accidentally."

[–] ouRKaoS@lemmy.today 18 points 4 days ago (1 children)

One good cross check into the boards & he'd pop like a balloon...

Big smear on the ice...

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 15 points 3 days ago

Incredible how much this guys demonstrates his hatred of the USA and 40% of the USA LOVES HIM. IN A GAY WAY.

[–] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 42 points 4 days ago (2 children)

I am pleased that media outlets seem to be settling on photos of Trump looking like he's about to stuff his piehole as their go to stock photo. Hilarious.

I am horrified that my news feed is a stream of photos of Trump looking like he's about to stuff his piehole.

[–] atzanteol@sh.itjust.works 13 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

The only photos of him with his mouth shut are when he's sleeping.

What a jackass. The US team should have not laughed though.

[–] Sharkticon@lemmy.zip 26 points 4 days ago

They guys who were gleefully partying with pedophile protectors? Yeah I think the rot might go a bit deeper than we think.

[–] SocialMediaRefugee@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I used to think Trump was unpredictable. Actually he is VERY predictable. I expected him to pout and he delivered.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 days ago

Just think: what's the worst combination of stupidity and assholery in any given situation? That's what he'll do. He lacks the intellect for behavioral flexibility. He's just a Markov process of shit talk.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 24 points 4 days ago

Eh, frankly, I wouldn't want to go to the White House to smell him anyway.

[–] waddle_dee@lemmy.world 33 points 4 days ago (4 children)

Don't ignore the fact Trump is insane, petty, vicious and the POTUS. I doubt anyone there wants to become the individual focus of Trump's ire, especially after the women's rejection put him in a foul mood. If anyone has had to dance around a violent parent's feelings, I'm sure you can understand.

[–] MountingSuspicion@reddthat.com 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

If the women can take it the men should too. Anyone deciding to go along to get along at this point is pro-Trump regardless of what they say. Trump is not their parent and these are adult who chose to be put in this position. If they want to "represent their country" and they won't push back when their country is fascist then they are representing fascism.

I feel bad for those who won't outlive Trump.

[–] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 15 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I feel bad for those of us who will outlive Trump because you know that this fascist movement doesn't stop with him and when they can't coalesce around a weak "strong" man, they will be lashing out.

[–] P1k1e@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

I dunno, feels like they're lashing out more than usual while he's around

What did he actually say? Article is paywalled

[–] cygnus@lemmy.ca 44 points 4 days ago (1 children)

“We’ll do the White House,” Trump told players. “We’ll just have some fun, we have medals for you guys. And we have to — I must tell you — we’re going to have to bring the women’s team, you do know that,” the president said, chuckling. The players laughed. “I do believe I probably would be impeached [if I didn’t],” Trump continued.

[–] hopesdead@startrek.website 49 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (2 children)

[enragement sets in]
