This photo brings up a question I have.

I don't know if there are any active service members here on Lemmy. And if there are, if they're even free to express an answer to this question.

But I was wondering what it must feel like for a serving soldier to be compelled to stand at attention and salute this man; this National Guard wash-out that has never actually served any day in his life but suddenly found himself in a position where men and women FAR better than him, have to salute him.

I was in the military, but I was kicked out because my penis snitched on my nose. Anyway, the entire time in there sucked. I had an instant after school hours where my house was hit in a drive by, my daughter had a bullet pass 2” by her leg and embed into a dresser next to her. My wife was freaking out. The officer in charge of my quarters didn’t let me go home to soothe my family, said there’s nothing I could do either way, and made me stay there mopping a fucking floor for the next four hours.

The military is filled with pieces of shit.

my penis snitched on my nose.

What? I've never seen that phrase before

[–] sturmblast@lemmy.world 11 points 6 days ago (1 children)

He is referring to drug testing

[–] thespcicifcocean@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

jesus christ, i'd never heard of that one before.

[–] deathmetaldawgy@lemmy.ml 10 points 6 days ago

Military people are the fucking weirdest I swear

[–] partofthevoice@lemmy.zip 10 points 6 days ago (1 children)

There was cocaine involved, then a base wide urinalysis the next morning. I learned, go figure, they were cracking down on a group of enlistees who were selling the drug on base. Go figure because I knew nothing about that; my story is more stupid, reckless and unexciting. I had gotten drunk and did some surprise cocaine at the bar with my civilian family member, the night before.

Honestly you line up with how some old Nam GIs I grew up around got caught, though for them it was weed and ended with that officer getting sent back in a box. Not even by them, he pissed off some other unit on his way to go snitch.

[–] Zink@programming.dev 0 points 6 days ago

Probably just offered to share some cocaine with the hot CO in order to get laid. We've all been there.

[–] etherphon@piefed.world 9 points 6 days ago

Someone should segregate his stupid ass smirk from his face.

[–] dansemacabreingalone@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Oh no. More strqight cis white men dying for dumbfuck reasons. How terrible.

[–] Spacehooks@reddthat.com 8 points 6 days ago

Gay men are too valuable! They are worth 7 straight men. Keep them out the military!

[–] jestho@lemmy.zip 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I mean... we are pretty good at it

[–] dansemacabreingalone@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

Okay but like... Woukd you mind dying trying to jump a rocket bike over a shark on camera qs the shark tries to kick you in the balls instead of while killing school children? Like if you gotta?

[–] jestho@lemmy.zip 1 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

That does sound pretty rad. Rocket jumping a ball-kicking shark, that is... not killing kids – that's totally uncool.

You would be proud to say your friend died that way, right?

[–] Olhonestjim@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

A single blindfold could improve that picture greatly.

[–] SnarkoPolo@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago

Segregation is coming back to the states, in every area.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 4 points 6 days ago

new motto: non adipem mulieres

no fat chicks.

[–] altphoto@lemmy.today 2 points 5 days ago

Also did you guys notice that they either picked the shortest people or maybe teenaged enlistees? Or maybe they all come from poor working families so ended up with some vitamin deficiency. Either way, its like the asshole has control over an army of shorter people. He stands there with one arm in his pocket like an idiot. I was told by my dad to never stand next to working people with hands in my pockets. Come to think about it, there's no good reason to have your hands in your pockets unless you're getting your keys. You gotta be ready to help others or at least to arrest a fall. Worst is while coming down the stairs because you'll be eating the stair steps if your hands are busy in your pockets.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 1 points 5 days ago

THAT'S RACIST!

[–] altphoto@lemmy.today 0 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Every asshole in the planet wears those shoes. Have you noticed that?

Theyre called "combat boots"

[–] homes@piefed.world 129 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

yeah, into "white, straight, cisgendered, christian men" and "dishonorable discharge"

neo-nazi fuckbag

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 10 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

I think this could actually work in the public's favor. Yeah your average boot may be a chud, but you'll find the number of knuckle draggers decreases on the way up. And I would love to see the armed services run by the neanderthals. We have already witnessed operational degeneration with them only a year in trying this. And with the new "personal weapons must be allowed on base" will result in a bunch of wild west shoot outs, and a few really desperate dudes doing big mass shootings.

I wish Canadians would take us over, I would welcome our poutine bearing overlords with glee. But we all know we will(or maybe already are) become a ruzzian or China's vassal.

[–] ComicalMayhem@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

On the one hand, sure. On the other hand, fuck man a military that is completely compliant with the president would spell the literal end of democracy.

[–] redsand@infosec.pub 1 points 6 days ago

It should eat its self first. The economic fire is going out to sustain such a military beast. Dumping US bonds would do wonders for the situation

[–] daychilde@lemmy.world 86 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Not the grunts, just the top brass. They don't care what color you are for you to be sent into the meat grinder.

[–] thedirtyknapkin@lemmy.world 15 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (2 children)

even banning trans people from enlistment is intentional for keeping people they don't like down. historically in america military service has been a MASSIVE social stepping stone for the underprivileged. it's hard for them to call you a coward when you fought in a war for them. it's hard for them to say you would be a bad neighbor when you were a good brother in arms.

many black families used it as their first step out of poverty and into acceptance. now trans people, who are derided as cowards and corrupting influences on your community, are being denied that privilege. vance and co. are very aware of this.

[–] desertdruid@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 6 days ago

just to add my 5 cents, it is well known for some people in the border that a "sure" way to get citizenship for you and your family is to enlist yourself in the military

[–] daychilde@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago

Well, that's a very good point. And frustrating.

[–] thesohoriots@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago

What a shit-for-brains drunken fuckwit.

[–] LillyPip@lemmy.ca 29 points 1 week ago

We need you to die for us, but only if you have the right genitals.

Genitals win or lose wars, apparently.

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 27 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Only the most elite and patriotic people of highest birth are allowed to fight in our toughest, wars. Hesgeth is the pinnacle of the human species, we NEED him on the front line, immediately.

... No, he's immortal and a genius and doesn't need weapons or armor, just let his words fight for him. He was chosen by god, you should even put him in a bright orange and lime jumpsuit and give him a megaphone and just drop him out of a plane. What a guy! An angel, even! Probably even has wings and doesn't need a parachute!

[–] HugeNerd@lemmy.ca 2 points 6 days ago

Toss in Ben Shapiro and I'd watch that livestream.

[–] 6stringringer@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 week ago

Frankly, I’d love to see this scenario played out to the fullest.

[–] Serinus@lemmy.world 20 points 1 week ago (2 children)

The archive.is and archive.today sites have been caught changing text of articles to fit the Russian narrative.

I can't say I know of an alternative.

[–] Paranoidfactoid@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Do you have a cite for that? This is the first I heard of this.

[–] Serinus@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)
[–] breakfastmtn@lemmy.ca 16 points 1 week ago (2 children)

That doesn't mention any Russian narrative. They altered a page as part of their personal grudge with that blogger. The same blog targeted in the DDoS attack.

[–] HugeNerd@lemmy.ca -4 points 6 days ago

Oh let him have his fun. Some people see 15 Russians behind every tree and the slightest breeze is caused by the KGB.

They're garden-variety Flat Earthers and Moon landing denialists, and are every bit as entertaining.

[–] Paranoidfactoid@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (5 children)

Not good just the same. Hacking readers' computers via a capta exploit is some next level nefarious shit above and beyond changing archived text.

Both violate users' trust though. I had no idea about this.

[–] ripcord@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago

OK, but I'd still like a source for the actual thing claimed about pushing Russian narrative.
