Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

I love Conservapedia. I highly recommend checking out the pages on "greatest conservative movies" and "worst liberal movies".
You might have to use the web archive though, because the actual site is down like 75% of the time.

Claiming Ace Ventura and Billy Madison as one of the greatest conservative movies is certainly a choice.

Also claiming George Orwell, unironically.

[–] BetaDoggo_@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Everyone claims Orwell for their own side for whatever reason.

Well he's a GOAT but bro was playing both sides at times so it's understandable

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orwell%27s_list

I've defended him over it before but dude should have known better to trust literal imperialists with anything like that, being busy dying of tuberculosis or not.

You should see what they have to say about relativity - it's absolutely insane.

On Wikipedia, a page titled "infamous liberals" would have a definition and link to the "liberal" page. This page doesn't, which immediately gives the impression that the definition is "people I don't like". But I looked it up: https://www.conservapedia.com/Liberal

A liberal (alternately called a left-winger or leftist) in America is someone who advocates an increase in government spending, power, and control, typically through taxpayer-funded programs such as Welfare, failed public schools, ObamaCare and support for wasteful foreign aid. Liberals often support the censorship and the denial of Christian values[1] and conservative viewpoints.

Trump has proposed a $1.5 trillion military budget, so just government spending obviously doesn't make someone a liberal. "Liberals often support" is something they claim liberals do, seemingly not something that makes a person a liberal.

So the claim seems to boil down to government control over the population being what makes someone a liberal. But surely the most government control-freaky in the US are the people behind ICE? And which party is it that wants to micro-manage control over women's bodies? Which party has elements which want to forbid interracial marriage? Which party is it that want to forbid no-fault diverse? Which party is it that loves the war on drugs, largely even marihuana?

I also like how liberals support "failed public schools" and "wasteful foreign aid". So if I support non-failed public schools and non-wasteful foreign aid, then I am not a liberal?

A liberal (alternately called a left-winger or leftist)

comedy gold

I feel like labels like "liberal", "conservative", "socialist", "right wing", "centrist", and "left wing" are largely meaningless, as used in the US today.

I hope we can use the left/right terminology less at some point in my lifetime.

I hate how the regressive side is called the "right".

Only when said by an idiot. Do you let how idiots use words define your thoughts?

The fact that Bill Maher is on there with Joseph Stalin just goes to show that TV is what the world is for some people. Even though one person's actions lead to the deaths of millions of real people and another said a joke that made you angry, it seems like the same thing because it's all make believe. Ultimately these things are apolitical. Its people interacting with characters in a narrative--there is no real interaction with any real politics.

Conservapedia is such a fucking hilarious website. Absolute comedic goldmine written without a whisper of irony.

[–] Rooskie91@discuss.online 114 points 3 days ago (1 children)

The Onion should buy it and change nothing.

[–] RamenJunkie@midwest.social 8 points 2 days ago

They should buy it, add the tagline "A place for all Conservative Facts" then make every page blank.

[–] Sludgehammer@lemmy.world 57 points 3 days ago

Oh, there's some irony woven in there. There was a discussion by the Conservapedia mods that got re-posted to Something Awful where the mods were debating "How to we tell trolls parodying Conservative talking points from the standard Conservative crazies that are editing Conservapedia in good faith?" IIRC nobody had a good answer.

Whenever Conservapedia comes up there's almost always someone who says something along the lines of "I just checked and my stupid edit of is still up!"

[–] Rivermoonwolf@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

Satan H Christ, I don't know Connies could read

[–] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 43 points 3 days ago (1 children)

It is funny that they don’t realize they’re technically liberals too

I greatly hate how liberal has become a term to mean left when it's a separate ideology in itself. A liberal and from there neo-libearl is not left. I feel it's been a large scale action to obsfucate the term to make it harder to discuss actual left policies.

[–] Cevilia@lemmy.blahaj.zone 19 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I remember that! The trusworthy encyclopedia! Utter comedy gold. I wish I could get that kind of a laugh. :)

[–] Zagorath@quokk.au 3 points 3 days ago

Trussworthy indeed.
