As I reply to this comment it has 174 upvotes, making this comment on Lemmy more popular than the RWD Cybertruck.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 90 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Yep ALL 173 cars sold!!
There's a reason the Cybertruck sales aren't public.

[–] dual_sport_dork@lemmy.world 37 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That's only the rear wheel drive ones. There are still plenty of other idiots who were dumb enough to put down even more money for the prior more expensive variants.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 35 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Of course it's only the rear wheel drive ones, that's what this is all about?!
Still it's lame to only sell 173 of a cheaper version, the sales on day 1 should have been higher than that.

There are still plenty of other idiots who were dumb enough to put down even more money

Not so much, sales of Cybertruck have been plummeting, already last year they dropped 48%. And this year will probably be worse.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/tesla-cybertruck-sales-elon-musk/

That 48% loss is allegedly the biggest drop of any EV in 2025. And that is despite Musk bought up Cybertrucks himself through SpaceX. Boosting sales by more than 1300 Cybertrucks in the 4th quarter alone!
Meaning that Musk bought 20% of the Cybertrucks sold in Q4 2025 himself. 🤣 🤣 🤣

https://www.latimes.com/business/story/2026-05-05/how-many-cybertrucks-has-tesla-sold-to-public-far-fewer-than-you-might-think

[–] ouRKaoS@lemmy.today 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The fact that they are selling any of those hideous looking, terrible vehicles is kind of impressive in a very sad way.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

Yes it's an all around horrible car, it's kind of impressive it has stayed in the market for as long as it has. But I wouldn't be surprised if it is discontinued soon.

[–] KatherinaReichelt@feddit.org 16 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They are kind of public:

Tesla sold 20,237 Cybertrucks in 2025, down from 38,965 the previous year, according to figures from Kelley Blue Book's annual electric vehicle (EV) sales reports.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 22 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Yes kind of, but that's not the same as being public, but a report based on 3rd party information.

The official Tesla Cybertruck numbers are bunched together with Model S and Model X.
Which is also why the very poor sales of the cheaper model is news.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Didn’t they also run some giant sales scam in Canada to fraudulently claim tax credits for fake EV sales? Where they were claiming dealerships were selling like 200 cars a day?

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Yes indeed they did, and Tesla came under investigation and the tax deductions were withdrawn as fraudulent.
I am not aware of the result of the investigation, but I bet Tesla would have advertised it if they were cleared.

[–] stopdropandprole@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

i could be mistaken but wasn't this one of several investigations into Musk owned companies which was halted after the inauguration?

There were so many investigations against tech bros stopped in 2025, it's hard to keep it all straight.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

There were allegedly investigations into Tesla in USA too, that were stopped by Trump and the Musk DOGE program.
But this has nothing to do with the obvious fraud they did in Canada.

That's the most hilariously damning number of recalled anything I've ever seen in my life.

[–] bowroat@infosec.pub -1 points 2 days ago

the wheels may fall off, the ai may be wrong, you may lose the bet. did anything ever sparkle, ever?

[–] Regrettable_incident@lemmy.world 20 points 2 days ago (1 children)

You mean, the front fell off. . ? Because that shouldn't happen.

[–] HugeNerd@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Ahhh a classic!

edit: who the heck is modding this down!??

[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 67 points 2 days ago (4 children)

that’s not very typical, I’d like to make that point.

[–] chronicledmonocle@lemmy.world 21 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Maybe they can tow these trucks out of the environment

[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)
[–] chronicledmonocle@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

No no it's been towed OUT OF the environment. It's not in an environment.

There is nothing out there except lithium batteries, stainless steel, and sea. And 173 Cybertrucks.

[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 6 points 2 days ago

And fire. And parts of the car the wheels fell off.

But there’s nothing else out there. It’s a complete void.

Btw, can you book me a cab?

[–] TwoDogsFighting@feddit.uk 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Apparently it is, in this case.

Also glue. Wait, no, they do use that.

[–] prex@aussie.zone 8 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

There's a minimum crew size.

[–] hydrashok@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

What’s the minimum crew?

[–] prex@aussie.zone 7 points 2 days ago

Well, one I imagine.

[–] luthis@lemmy.nz 38 points 2 days ago (2 children)

It's because they are screwed on, so after a certain amount of forwards driving, you're meant to do a bit of reversing to screw them back up. TIs design didn't work well in hindsight

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

Did you remember to drive your Cybercuck a couple of miles backwards so the wheels don't fall off? - Superior engineers at the Nazi Car Factory.

Cybertruck is so futuristic it doesn't even have wheels!

[–] hOrni@lemmy.world 24 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Wheels might fall off? Is that a cartoon car?

[–] Alcoholicorn@mander.xyz 17 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Between Whompy Wheels and the steering wheel coming flying off, I'm like 50% sure the engineers are doing it on purpose.

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 5 points 2 days ago (2 children)

JFC, has that ever happened to any other car brand?

[–] yessikg@fedia.io 1 points 2 days ago

The wheels thing? The initial model of Toyota/Subaru Bz4x/Solterra had that too

[–] Andonyx@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Happened to my cousin in a Honda Prelude in the early 90s. But that car was pretty old and had a lot of miles by then.

[–] lillardfair@lemmy.world 21 points 2 days ago

I think you should leave steering wheel guy

All I want is a good truck where the wheels don't a fly off while you're driving

[–] WhiskyTangoFoxtrot@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Is this why the Joker got away?

[–] MrNesser@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

Ah, The Toyota BZ4X strategy, I see Wheels = more weight = less range.

[–] FelixCress@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago
