Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person or their instance. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on. Keep on-topic

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Oh yeah, great idea! Choose the guy who thinks republicans have learned their lesson, and won't ever go fascist again. There's no reason to hold them accountable for their crimes.

This guy is a fucking collaborator. Nothing is going to change as long as the democratic leadership are paid by the same people as republicans. They're controlled opposition, and they're traitors to the people.

Don't boo! Organize disruptive protests and force them to do what needs to be done

[–] TheGoldenV@lemmy.world 27 points 1 day ago

My boo is specifically for HJ. I’m not done being a nag for what’s right. There is work yet to do.

What if you have severe social phobias that can’t just be willed away

[–] lazymoose@lemmy.world 53 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I vote for Ilhan Omar. To get this talk started.

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 3 points 18 hours ago

I vote for her if given chance.

[–] athairmor@lemmy.world 42 points 1 day ago

Do better, Democrats.

[–] celeste@kbin.earth 41 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Later this month, the newly elected House Democrats will gather behind closed doors to anoint their candidate to run in the January election for speaker. Nobody is seen posing a serious threat to Jeffries, according to multiple Democratic aides.

This should change. I don't even know who the other options are? I saw someone (onion owner) suggest Raskin, but mostly just talk about schumer and jeffries needing to go.

Yeah, I don’t for the life of me understand why the progressive wing doesn’t just say “fuck that” and just refuse to line up behind the establishment. This is actually a perfect time for a Democratic Party schism, now that the legislature has been wrested from the fascists (I know, there’s still certification and swearing in, but I’d consider challenges in those domains to be kind of intrinsically extralegal). The DCCC old guard got us here, and it’s well past time we took away their keys and drivers license.

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The large Democratic wave (spurred in no small part by the progressive wing) may actually work against them, because if the Democratic majority is really more than 40 seats (as is currently projected), then that means that they can afford to lose 20 or 30 members and still get their agenda through. So those far left politicians don't really have a lot of leverage if they want to buck the leadership.

Point of order:

They’re not really “far left”. In most other countries, they’d probably be considered centrist, and in some cases, center-right.

Anyways: part of what I hope happens here is that the DCCC establishment understands that they’re being put on notice, and that at least some reps accept that the political winds have materially changed.

Raskin has been putting in a lot of good work investigating corruption. I think he would be a good pick.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 8 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 21 hours ago)

Now it's time to spend the next two months changing that!

This is NOT the fait accompli Reuters makes it out to be.

[–] KC_Royalz@lemmy.world 11 points 23 hours ago (1 children)
[–] Freeposity@lemmy.world 12 points 22 hours ago

No shit. I'm writing my rep and demanding they find someone else. That secret meeting he had with Kushner tells me that he probably put his dick somewhere it didn't belong and they've got evidence on him. Hakeem will sell us out, if he hasn't already.

Find someone else!

[–] SnarkoPolo@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'd like to see an advocate rather than an appeaser.

[–] ikidd@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 21 hours ago

Appeaser? Fucker is fully complicit. He's AIPAC in blackface.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 23 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Ugh why. Don't they need to take a vote? This is their chance to finally get rid of this garbage leadership

[–] baronvonj@piefed.social 2 points 17 hours ago

Yes, they vote in January after the new Congress is sworn in. What they're saying here is when they try to agree ahead of time that nobody else will run for the position in that vote, by making deals for committee assignments and shit.

[–] azimir@lemmy.ml 15 points 1 day ago

So we change from Speaker Johnson (R-AIPAC) to Speaker Jeffries (D-AIPAC)? We deserve someone better than a well-spoken mushy person in that chair. Someone who is going to tear into the rot caused by the Republican complicity with traitors, not just say "we'll work for you.... eventually (believe us again)".

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice... ain't going to be fooled again.

[–] Malica@lemmy.zip 7 points 21 hours ago

I plan to bitch about it 24/7 to my rep, the people want somebody different

[–] dou9m@lemmy.ca 21 points 1 day ago

Israel and Benjamin Netanyahu rejoice

[–] BigMacHole@thelemmy.club 12 points 1 day ago

Good! The LAST thing Democrats should do After turning BUNCH of Red States Blue because People are PISSED is ANYTHING different! It was a WINNING strategy for Kamala Harris and it will be a WINNING Strategy going into 2028!

[–] LocalAreaMan@lemmy.ml 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

AIPAC to become Speaker of US House of Representatives

Fuuuuck. I knew it. Nothing is going to change.

[–] CmdrShepard49@sh.itjust.works 0 points 23 hours ago

Where's /u/givessomefucks to tell us that the Democratic party is completely reformed from elections past and isn't being controlled by the same status-quo liberals who put Donald Trump in the White House?
