“Ohio National Guard member Sgt. Devon Beck was not amused by this satire,” the complaint states, and after “less than two minutes” of O’Hara’s musical protest, Beck “turned around and threatened to call the police officers to ‘handle’ Mr. O’Hara if he did not stop.”

O’Hara kept playing the song, and Beck called the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department, who arrived on the scene. The MPD officers accused O’Hara of “harassing” and “assaulting” the Guard members; he denied these accusations and insisted he was peacefully protesting by standing on the sidewalk and playing music on his phone. The MPD officers “tightly handcuffed and detained Mr. O’Hara for between 15 and 20 minutes,” the complaint states.

Sounds like that Sgt and the N. Guard being there are more of a nuisance.

If MPD had enough free time to go after something as petty as this then there must be no other real crimes going on so then we have to ask, wtf are the military still doing there?

[–] papasan_mamasan@lemmy.world 58 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Sgt Beck has got some thin skin. This was barely a roast let alone a burn. Dude needs to take it easy and man the fuck up, this is just the beginning.

"Soy un perdedor..."

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 23 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Ohio National Guard member Sgt. Devon Beck was not amused by this satire

The goal never was to amuse him.

[–] YeeKanToo@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 weeks ago

Stormtroopers are engineered not to feel amusement.

[–] kbobabob@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Beck is the short pudgy one isn't he?

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 34 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I don't have TikTok, so I can't see the video. Here's a picture that I assume is him and shows his face. He is shorter than the other people in the picture. Not sure if this is the guy you're referring to though.

[–] renrenPDX@lemmy.dbzer0.com 20 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

He doesn't appear to have the Hegseth Approved body type.

[–] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 weeks ago

Needs more blond hair and blue eyes

[–] quick_snail@feddit.nl 5 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

I honesty don't think the national guard did something bad. We should blame the police for not chewing out the national guard for wasting their time, then leaving.

[–] Dragonstaff@leminal.space 10 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

The Guard is an agent of the state. Being this clueless about the First Amendment shows poorly on him as an American, but also suggests poor training by his command structure.

Yes, the MPD are actually the ones who violated his civil rights.

There is logic in that music option. We should solidify that idea, make the Darth Vader music the main musical theme for posted video of ICE.

[–] WhiskyTangoFoxtrot@lemmy.world 12 points 3 weeks ago (5 children)

The Imperial March is too cool for these people. I'd go with Entry of the Gladiators.

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago

Just play it in A major, and it sounds like an old USian propaganda song from the '40s to '50s

[–] PillowTalk420@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

I fucking love that he wrote that to be like WWE intro music, and it ended up being the main anthem associated with clowns. 🤣🤡

Or the Jaws theme.

Mannn I love the imperial March can’t we use something else? At least choose Wagner instead

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 10 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

It sounds cool, but if you don't know it's already associated with an evil authoritarian empire. A second one can't really do more damage. You can still like the song.

[–] galaxy_nova@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

I mean some Wagner is already associated with the nazis lol

Edit I read your comment half asleep and did not understand. I guess I’d rather just have something goofy or musical shitty otherwise I mean having an intimidating piece of music seems like more of a rallying anthem than otherwise. I’m with the entrance of the gladiators option.

[–] Zephorah@discuss.online 8 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

To be fair, Star Wars is a dystopia. Authoritarian Empire rules, with troops willing to vaporize entire planets to quell ragtag bands of protestors who eventually go military in their operations. There’s your organized antifa, the rebels.

It’s easy to parallel it because it’s an established archetype in life and lore. Authoritarian regime vs underdog rebels.

But with magic.

[–] Dragonstaff@leminal.space 6 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Parallel is a bit too weak a word. George Lucas has said that Star Wars is an allegory for Vietnam and the Empire is based on the US.

[–] Zephorah@discuss.online 2 points 2 weeks ago

Damn.

Art mimics life mimics art…

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

I like entry of the gladiators for this purpose

[–] Andonyx@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

We need a "...Valkyries", that's been arranged to sound like 5th grade band. Like a Wagner Shreds video. That would be perfect for this entire regime.

[–] ripcord@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

That would be nowhere nearly as effective.

[–] felixthecat@fedia.io 5 points 3 weeks ago

And main star wars theme for people protesting this fascist bs? Absolutely.

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 37 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

I hope this is a trend that catches on.

[–] YeeKanToo@sh.itjust.works 15 points 2 weeks ago

It's happening all over france. Really gets those asshole mad to think they might be the baddies

[–] Nomorereddit@lemmy.today 27 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Fuck that bull shit, thats free speech baby.

Also I've seen the video and the.tik toker was annoying.

Why am I such a contrarian online?

[–] Dragonstaff@leminal.space 15 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

shrug You're allowed to be annoyed by anything you want, as long as you're as clear as you were that "that's free speech baby".

The point of protests is to be annoying. Whether they want to be there or not, these National Guards are an occupying force. Annoying government officials is precisely what the First Amendment protects.

Exactly. The first amendment isn’t there to protect the speech that people like. And protests aren’t effective if you can just ignore them. The entire point of protesting is to be a problem that is big enough and loud enough that the lawmakers can’t just ignore it.

[–] dream_weasel@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Being contrarian is more engaging.

[–] sploosh@lemmy.world 12 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)
[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 7 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

That's not an argument, it's just contradiction!

[–] jerkface@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Look, if I'm going to argue with you, I have to take up a contradictory position.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)
[–] jerkface@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 weeks ago

No, you're the other guy

[–] PillowTalk420@lemmy.world 26 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Darth Vader theme

Ahem... Actually, it's called the Imperial Death March. 🤓

[–] sness@sh.itjust.works 16 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Akshually.. it's called "Imperial March (Darth Vader's Theme)"

[–] whoisearth@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

You're both fucking nerds lol

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Can I split hairs on what I consider cultural differences between nerds and geeks? I consider nerds to be bookworms, studious type of people. Where as someone can be aloof and just really into one thing like say Spider-Man and be a geek.

I guess I just consider one to be academic focused while the other hobby(?) focused. Like getting high every day and playing Super Smash Brothers could get you classified as a geek, but not a nerd.

[–] MeThisGuy@feddit.nl 3 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

that just classifies you as a goofball

Actually, it was Darth Vaders monster. Darth Vader is the doctor.

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 weeks ago

That is an insult to Darth Vader.

[–] bignate31@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Why don't y'all just do this everywhere? I mean, it's not that hard. Just make it a fun tiktok meme and there's bound to be enough trigger-happy Guardsmen to make a point.

"Why don't you rise up against them?" Well... because that's scary

"Why don't you do more nonviolent protests?" Well... because that requires us to do something and we'd rather sit on our couch

Ah. makes sense now

[–] Gammelfisch@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

What? Those assholes do not like Star Wars? F-them.

[–] betanumerus@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 weeks ago

So Darth Vader actually interfered with their machine guns? That's amazing.
